The Horde
We've been on pins and needles about The Horde since they debuted the behind the scenes news footage and gorgeous concept art. And now, we finally have a trailer that's longer than a few seconds. In the wake of so many zombie films, this is one that has stood out since the beginning. The story takes place in a run-down high-rise where police stand-off is going down. Both the cops and the crooks are marooned in this building by a swarm of zombies, and they'll have to work together. Take a look at the trailer: You have to admit the make-up is fantastic.

Adele Blanc-Sec
The Adele Blanc-Sec site is up and running and, thanks to Twitch, we now have the trailer! The film is based on the '70s books that take place in Paris just before WWI. The main character, Adele, is a novelist turned investigative journalist obsessed with the occult, which she apparently gets in this film in spades. Check out the dragons/dinosaurs that are unleashed on Paris, plus here's a few stills.

Portrait of a Zombie
If we're going to post another zombie film, we're at least going to make sure it's different. Like this little Irish film right here. We'll let the synopsis do the explaining:

Zombies roam the streets of Dublin. An American documentary crew come to Ireland to make a documentary about the Murphy Family, whose eldest son Billy has turned, but the family still choose to care for him, much to the chagrin of the neighbors and the local crime boss. The Documentary crew soon become enthralled in the proceedings as Billy's story unfolds.

Maneater
Quiet Earth made us aware of this little monster gem. And by gem we mean, terrible original Syfy-esque feature (Not that there's anything wrong with that). Dean Cain has to go up against the Wendigo that "eats people" and, apparently, light because this trailer is dark. But what will Dean do when he realizes that the monster he's tracking may be, dum dum dum....himself?

A former FBI profiler, now a sheriff of a small town and a single parent of a high school aged daughter, begins to profile a series of unexplained murders only to learn that the monster he's profiling may be himself.

<![CDATA[The Child Soul Stealer Is The Perfect Holiday Gift]]> What better way to celebrate the holiday season than with a bunch of dolls that want to eat your soul? Plus a brand new brain-busting trailer that may be the next scifi infatuation, Re-Wire.

Alma
Rodrigo Blaas has posted his beautiful, but highly disturbing, clip Alma on the internet as a special holiday treat for those who want to scare children away from toys forever. It's brilliant: "Happy Christmas kiddies, just don't close your eyes while you sleep or your dolls will come alive to steal your souls."

Alma from Rodrigo Blaas on Vimeo.

Zombie Wedding:
Alright, I'm kind of fascinated by this Turkish film. It's like Cloverfield, but instead of a going away party it's a wedding, and instead of a monster, it's zombies. So, ok, not like Cloverfield at all but you get what I'm saying, right? The good folks at Quiet Earth roughly translated the synopsis:

Known each other for a long time friend of the five-person group, partner to attend the wedding of a friend Büyükada'ya expenses. Erhan, together with the wedding and a long range team can record their happy moments brought a camera for receiving and continuous shooting is near. Viewed throughout the entire film, this camera mirrors ones. Later in the hour of the wedding guests and a group of zombie attack, mess turns into the lake of blood.

And here's the trailer. Thoughts?

Re-Wire
This little trailer was brought to our attention thanks to Twitch, and consider our eyebrows highly arched in anticipation of this short film. Re-Wire features a man getting his brain rewired to cut fear out of his life. This decision doesn't seem to be made on a whim, but rather this fear has forced him to take such drastic measures. It stars Brandon McGibbon, who is also in the highly anticipated Splice.

<![CDATA[Naked, Bald Werewolf Gals Have Our Full Attention Also, ZEBRAMAN]]> There's a new mysterious werewolf movie on the rise, plus the latest trailer for The Crazies remake is out, making us question just how we feel about this remake: Is it CRAZY enough? And how much crazy is too crazy?

13 HRS
Quiet Earth pointed out this interesting little film called 13 HRS, which is not your average slasher flick. Instead it's a naked werewolf people slasher flick, which I think we can all agree is an upgrade.

Synopsis:

A full moon hangs in the night sky and lightning streaks across dark storm clouds. Sarah Tyler returns to her troubled family home in the isolated countryside, for a much put-off visit. As the storm rages on, Sarah, her family and friends shore up for the night, cut off from the outside world. But something comes out of the driving rain and darkness. Something that holds a dark secret so devastating that, in one night, it could wipe out the entire family.

Trapped, Sarah and her brothers and friends must use their heads as well as their physical strength to survive not only the thing that is hunting them down one by one - but their own entrapment as the besieged group turns in on itself. Can they survive the horror stalking them? Or is their enemy already amongst them and has it always been? Can they survive for 13 hours?

The Crazies
So here's the latest trailer for the George Romero remake of The Crazies... I'm not so sure how I feel about it now. The last trailer held much more promise. Thoughts opinions? Is this another film we should throw on the fiery pile of YARM?

Zebraman 2
Last, but certainly not least, Twitch has a few stills from Takashi Miike and Sho Aikawa on the set of Zebraman 2, and they are not screwing around. What, you've never heard of Zebraman? Well, here's the trailer for the first film...

And here are the new set pics,

The first film is about a man, Shinichi, who finds solace from his miserable life in the costume of Zebraman, and eventually he has to actually become the superhero and save the world. As you can see the costume has been upgraded. I'm excited to see where this is going. For more pics, check out Twitch.

<![CDATA[Flight of the Conchords And Always Sunny Get Into The Scifi Indie Biz]]> There's a whole heap of cult fodder for you this week, including the new Black Lightning trailer, a disturbing new Telepathy trailer, our favorite TV comics getting into the scifi business and more flying babies.

First up, I wanted to add an impromtu "steal this pitch" to all you indie filmmakers and fans out there. This week on It's Always Sunny, the gang pitched what could be possibly the best independent film ever. Please make "Crime Stinks: The Smell of Penetration" happen!

Diagnosis Death:
This supernatural horror flick is made up of all our favorite Flight of the Conchords characters, including Murray. It's a mix of shock and laughs, but from the look of this new clip, it's mostly laughs. The DVD will be out December 29th.

Plus Bloody Disgusting has a clip, below, where Murray makes a cameo!

A supernatural force brings together two lost souls undergoing radical treatment at an experimental drug-testing facility, but when the facility is locked down for the weekend and the drugs take effect, the human guinea pigs experience sinister hallucinations pointing to a horrific double murder.

Unsure of where reality stops, the apparitions become more and more threatening until the only way to leave the facility alive is to solve this haunting secret.

Black Lightning:
Timur Bekmambetov's latest trailer for his high flying car adventure movie is geared towards the ladies! Check out this slick new chitty-chitty-bang-bang that helps seduce the womens. Plus a translated older trailer.

And, because I know a few of you were asking, here's the older Black Lightning trailer with subtitles:

Telepathy:
Quiet Earth pointed out Lesley Manning latest endeavor, and just the description gives us chills...

A pair of identical twins are separated by Russian scientists to determine if they can communicate with each other while one is kept on earth and the other is launched into space.

As someone who firmly believed she had a twin and was switched at birth, much to the dismay of her parents, this movie freaks me out. You may remember Manning from the fake series that tricked a few souls titled Ghostwatch. Well she and her Ghostwatch buddy Stephen Volk, came up with this script and it's staring Kevin McKidd as the twins. I'm already sold, enjoy.

IEP:
It wouldn't be a Cult weekend without a child with wings. Check out the full trailer for the Dutch film, IEP, the story about a little baby bird girl who was taken in by a kindly old couple. But when she gets older, she tries to fly South for the winter, oh uh! Do not miss this, the baby bird puppet is hilarious, and the little girl is adorable.

<![CDATA[New Tween Drama Teaches Us That Tattoos Are For Ugly People]]> This is the most ridiculous movie we've ever heard of: It's got an Olsen playing a freaky Goth, a blind Neil Patrick Harris and magic! It's Beastly, and it's laughable. Also see the worst job interview, and more flying babies.

Beastly
A rich socialite is super mean to his classmates, calling them ugly and so forth, and you know words hurt. But when he picks on the BIGGEST freak - the Goth girl Kendra, played by THE Mary-Kate Olsen - she turns him ugly. Because, as we all know, Goths have magical powers. Kendra turns the brat into everything he despises, which appears to be Nero from J.J. Abrams' Star Trek. Then he's banished to Brooklyn (yeah I know) and is taken in by blind tutor Neil Patrick Harris and a house keeper named LisaGay Hamilton. Forced to live in the horrible dreck that is Brooklyn, what with its fancy restaurants, organic markets, and boutiques, he encounters a drug addict and convinces him to let his daughter live with him, who is Vanessa Hudgens. And boom, Beauty and The Beast with a horrible twist is born. Sorry guys... Your Beast's ugly can't hold a candle to Mary-Kate's get up here...

Trailer

The Exam
The new trailer for The Exam is out, and it's kind of like Battle Royale meets a job interview. It's pretty intense and marries the idea of what happens to people when left to their own devices, and one of the Saws. Check it out.

Eight talented candidates have reached the final stage of selection to join the ranks of a mysterious and powerful corporation. Entering a windowless room, an Invigilator gives them eighty minutes to answer one simple question. He outlines three rules they must obey or be disqualified: don't talk to him or the armed guard by the door, don't spoil their papers and don't leave the room. He starts the clock and leaves.

The candidates turn over their question papers, only to find they're completely blank...

Ricky
Flying babies are taking over. Last week, we had a bird-armed toddler, and this week it's a winged baby. His name is Ricky and he is adorable. The director is François Ozon, and if it doesn't warm your heart you have a cold soul.

<![CDATA[Bird Arm Babies, Nic Cage's Mighty Sword And El Eternauta Footage]]> We've got a grab-bag of crazy for you this week. First up is a look at the test footage of the movie adaptation of graphic novel El Eternauta, complete with poison snow. Plus creepy flying kids and Nic Cage.

El Eternauta
Last year, we found out that 1950s graphic novel by Héctor Germán Oesterheld, El Eternauta was being turned into a film. The book begins with a poison snow blanketing Buenos Aires, killing most people beside our hero Juan Salvo, aka El Eternauta. Jaun dons a scuba suit and heads out to fight our alien invaders and save what's left of the human race. It's being directed by Lucrecia Martel and a little bit of footage is now out:

Meanwhile, Quiet Earth found this fanmade trailer, and like they say, it kind of beats the test footage. But let us remember this is merely TEST footage. I have high hopes for this poison snow alien picture. Even if it's merely to see a scuba suit hero.

Eep
Twitch brought our attention to this horrifying creation. Look, I may be jaded, but if I saw someone with bird arms flying around, my knee jerk reaction would be to shoot it down. It's HEADED RIGHT FOR US! This film is Dutch/Belgian and called iep or Eep! The premise is about a couple who has a baby with bird arms, and instead of smashing it with a rock, they let it grow. But when it gets older it tries to fly South, and calamity ensues.

SUCK
SUCK came out at TIFF, and damn it all if l don't love it. How can you not? It's got Iggy Pop telling you the two most important things in the world: "Always wear a condom and never trust a goddamn vampire." Plus, it's also got Moby dressed up like the biker from YMCA, Henry Rollins and Alice Cooper. I'm not sure how old this is, but here's a new music video from the video I stumbled upon. If you think it's as hilarious as I do check out the clip with Malcolm McDowell and Dave Foley.

Season of The Witch
I know, I know it's not really in our wheelhouse, but giant dragons couldn't stop me from posting an update about Nic Cage's sword fighting film. It's Nic Cage versus MAGIC and zombie monks and apparently leprosy. Coming out March 19th, 2010.

<![CDATA[Metal Tornados And 90 Rockers Get Twisted]]> How has there not been a movie about Metal Tornadoes yet? Well, worry no more, there is now. Take that 2012 and your silly little arks.

Metal Tornado:
What more really needs to be said here, other than GIANT METAL TORNADOES! That's about 1,000 times cooler than regular tornadoes. Now, thanks to the Sci Fi Chronicles, we can finally upgrade our natural disasters. Here's the poster and official synopsis:

When astronomers discovered the phenomena of magnetic tornados on the planet Mercury, they were amazed by the destructive power of these gargantuan solar-fueled magnetic fields...but they never imagined witnessing the catastrophic forces in their own backyards.

Samuel Planck is head of the HELIOS PROJECT—a high tech facility tasked with storing and converting solar rays into an endless supply of renewable energy. After years of research and millions of dollars, it is now time to test the system out. The scientists cheer loudly as initially things go according to plan. But when the facility is unable to control the massive amount of energy coming in, the cheers turn to screams. The charged particles begin swirling around themselves, creating a massive magnetic vortex that quickly becomes the first magnetic tornado on earth!

Planck and his team try to abort the procedure but it's already too late—with a trillion watts of power to draw from, there is nowhere this monstrous force of nature can't go. The mega swirling tornados are soon ripping steel from buildings, cars off the street, and planes from the sky as they pulverize everything they touch!

Now Samuel Planck and his team must find a way to stop these metal tornados before they destroy all of us!

Love:
Angels And Airwaves, a band made up of some Blink 182 people and some other aged '90s rock stars have made a short film based on an astronaut who is all alone in space. Uh oh, looks like somebody saw Moon. I'm not really sure what to think about this... It look pretty, but my hatred of A&A is pretty steadfast. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Synopsis:

After losing contact with Earth, Astronaut Lee Miller becomes stranded in orbit alone aboard the International Space Station. As time passes and life support systems dwindle, Lee battles to maintain his sanity - and simply stay alive. His world is a claustrophobic and lonely existence, until he makes a strange discovery aboard the ship. Driven by the powerful music of Angels & Airwaves, Love explores the fundamental human need for connection and the limitless power of hope... A high-impact visual adventure, that resonates a common truth, that everyone has a story to tell and something even greater to leave behind.

All About Evil:
This strange little parody of a parody takes place when a young librarian inherits her father's movie house and starts showing horror pictures. Some way or another, she gets the "Shining" and becomes a murderer. Here are a collection of stills pointed out via Quiet Earth. It looks colorfully cute, and it appears to have the sassy character from American Pie in it. Let's keep our fingers crossed for actual comedy.

<![CDATA[Werewolves In Armor Versus Vampire Bill Versus Ice]]> Werewolves wearing armor, underground monsters, and Vampire Bill are running amuck in this week's Cult Worship. Plus three beautiful, fish filled and altogether brilliant little videos.

The Blackout
One thing I love more than "versus" movies (man versus beast, beast versus monster, monster versus monster versus man) is holiday themed horror flicks. And The Blackout has both. It's monsters versus humans pegged with a Christmas Eve time stamp. The official synopsis is:

When an apartment building's lights go out mysteriously, all of the tenants put aside their problems and band together to get to the bottom of the city-wide blackout. Deep in the basement of the high-rise, a hideous breed of monster hatches and begins to wreak havoc. Everyone must find a way to kill the blood-thirsty creatures and survive the darkness before it destroys the world.

Here's the poster...

For release dates check out the official site.

Gladiators V. Werewolves: Edge of Empire
Here is some bananas concept art from Rob Green's werewolf flick. No one is cast in it, but it's supposed to be released in 2010. I think we all know what it's about...

Synopsis:

The film takes place in Roman occupied Britain, where captured werewolves are pitted against the land's best warriors in Gladiatorial games. But the werewolves are far more cunning then they let on, as they are using the games to infect and turn their enemies into their own werewolf army.

Here's some additional art, check out Geek Tryant for even more.

Ice

Vampire Bill is getting into the disaster porn spirit. The makers of the Day of The Triffids are coming out with another TV Movie titled Ice starring Stephen Moyer and we're really really really hoping he plays a scientist who know the world is about to end but no one will believe him. Joining him is Claire Forlani, Ben Cross, Petrick Bergin, Simon Callow and Sam Neill (hooray Jurassic Park).

Official Synopsis:

It is 2020. Findings by environmental scientist Professor Thom Archer suggest that Halo, the corporate energy company drilling on the Greenland Glacier are causing it to melt. Archer's warnings are ignored, so he heads to the Arctic to find indisputable evidence. Upon arrival, he realizes humankind is under immediate threat, and races home to save his family. The glacier collapses, with devastating consequences. Astonishing weather patterns emerge and plunge the world's temperatures into steep decline.

It's currently filming, come on VAMPIRE SCIENTIST BILL.

FISH!

It's been a while since I posted some sexy nature-centric news over here. And while looking for new inspirational animal friendly films to watch at 3 AM, I found this beauty. This is Kuroshio Sea the 2nd largest aquarium tank in the world, which is in Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, Japan.

The main tank called the "Kuroshio Sea" holds 7,500-cubic meters (1,981,290 gallons) of water and features the world's second largest acrylic glass panel, measuring 8.2 meters by 22.5 meters with a thickness of 60 centimeters. Whale sharks and manta rays are kept amongst many other fish species in the main tank.

<![CDATA[Tranny Werewolves And An Apocaplyptic Starbucks]]> This week in Cult Worship, we mix the supernatural and the campy with a "tranny werewolf" on the run, a review of In Search of Memory and a really crappy end of the world.

I Was A Tranny Werewolf
From the makers of Dragzilla and Night of The Living Gay comes I Was A Tranny Werewolf. It's about as camp-tastic as you can get while keeping it's NSFW stripes well in play.

Waiting Room
I kind of like the little synopsis of Brazilian film, Waiting Room, picked up by Quiet Earth. Somehow, something terrible happened and now people just wander around with gas masks at the local coffee shops, full of hate. Sounds about right.

A young man wearing a gas mask wanders through the deserted streets of a crumbling city. Only a few people - all male - still roam the streets and frequent the coffee shops. Their interaction is minimal and marked by sudden and unprovoked outbursts of violence. Everyone is seemingly waiting for an undisclosed something.

2012: Supernova
Well, it was bound to happen. there's a crappy 2012-alike coming out under the radar hoping to ride the whole "we're all gonna die" wave that the real 2012 will certainly make in a month... but this one doesn't have any actual celebrities.

In Search of Memory
(Review by Julia Carusillo)

Imagine Science Film Festival opened last week in New York City, promoting character-driven science and science fiction films that are both credible and entertaining. In Search of Memory, Petra Seeger's documentary on the life and work of Nobel Prize-winner Dr. Eric Kandel, certainly fulfilled the festival's credo, offering a moving and interesting portrait of bow-tied, bespectacled neuroscientist.

Kandel's work studying memory, specifically the hypothalamus' crucial role in permanently storing significant events, has earned him international acclaim, but the scientist remained humble, personable, and even zany at times throughout the documentary. The film alternates between Kandel and his wife Denise's journey revisiting their roots in Nazi-occupied Austria and France, respectively, and scenes of Kandel and his friends and colleagues in New York, where he is a professor of biochemistry and biophysics at Columbia University. Kandel is a real-life character far more interesting than fiction, speaking eloquently and thoughtfully about his time in war-torn Vienna, which makes Seeger's choice to include reenactments of Kandel's childhood more and more curious as the film progresses. The sepia-toned scenes stand out against a livelier and much more authentic portrait of the scientist's real life, which is filled with Kandel's children and grandchildren, work colleagues and friends. There's an especially tender scene of Kandel and two wizened scientist friends cavorting at a local Starbucks, discussing brain cells, psychiatry and the good old days.

The film does an admirable job of focusing on the scientist more than the science, so that during times when Kandel does go into great detail about brain processes, the audience truly wants to hear what he has to say. Even if you gloss over the intense slug brain surgery, the film has much more to offer, namely an exploration of the inspirational life of Dr. Kandel, whose cult following including one young woman in the film likens to that of a rock star. When visiting where his father's toy shop used to be in Vienna, the charming now-owner of the storefront recognizes him almost immediately, informing Kandel that people who have read his book make pilgrimages to the place that meant so much to him growing up. Kandel is refreshingly candid throughout the entire film, a joy to watch and certainly a joy to hear speak during the post-screening Q&A, where questions ranged from highly scientific queries to jazz musicians wondering if there's a pill for better remembering chord-progressions. Ultimately, the title of the film (named after Kandel's 2007 book) says it all, as the viewer joins Kandel on both a scientific and emotional search for what memory is and how it shapes who we are.

<![CDATA[Timur Bekmambetov's Full Black Lightning Trailer]]> The super zoomy trailer for Bekmambetov's Black Lightning is out, and Holy Hell, does this guy like slow motion. Black Lightning looks like Wanted with a Volga, but that being said this is one kick-ass Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Black Lightning:
Even though I wasn't a big fan of Wanted, you cannot deny that it was a good looking piece of film. Even when they used slow motion for EVERYTHING, it still looked good. Slow motion James McAvoy brushing his teeth! Still, I really enjoy looking at Timur Bermambetov's work. And you can see his mark all over the latest trailer for Black Lightning, and he's only the producer (Alexandr Voitinsky is directing).

We've been waiting quite some time for this trailer and this flying car movie doesn't disappoint so far.

This is a story of Moscow University's student who becomes the owner of ordinary from the first sight, been-used, but... able to fly "Volga" car. With this car he will be able to not only avoid Moscow traffic jams, but unexpectedly for himself turn to city's defender, mysterious fighter against Evil.

The Shrine:
Bloody Disgusting has a report from The Shrine's set, where they picked up this amazing photo. The film is about a group of journalists who head to a remote village in Poland to do a story on a disappearing backpacker, and of course, things go crazy and the journalists uncover a cult that likes to sacrifice humans. The whole thing is being shot with RED cameras, the report is pretty detailed, and here's the teaser trailer.

Teaser Trailer:

Remote
I can't stop hearing enough positive things about Marc Roussel's short Remote. Quiet Earth just reviewed it pretty positively, and you can never have enough clever short movies. We'll keep an eye out for it at the next film festival, where it is currently playing. Until then, here's the trailer.

<![CDATA[The Dance Dance Revolution Future Street Fighting Game of Death!]]> In the future, your merit as a street thug will be based on the swift moves you bring to the back alley illegal Dance Dance Revolution fighting game. So does it work, or is it still just dance fighting?

Turbo
Twilight star Justin Chon plays a futuristic burger flipper by day, Dance Dance Revolution fighter by night, in the short film Turbo. The film was created by a USC student Jarrett Lee Conaway, and it's completely ridiculous in concept but actually very well done (The trailer and short are both below). Chon's character is Hugo Park and he's Dance Dance fighting not for glory but to fix his wheelchair-bound brother's back. He's a Dancing warrior with a heart of gold! The site describes it as a mix of Karate Kid and Tron, and it's pretty spot on... Not to mention, better acted than the Chun-Li film. Check it out.

It tells the story of Hugo Park (Justin Chon, Twilight) a misspent youth whose only outlet for angst is a 4D fighting videogame called "Super Turbo Arena". When Pharaoh King (Jocko Sims, Crash the Series), the Michael Jordan of cyber-sports, announces a tournament to determine who will join his pro-team, Hugo's sets his eyes on the prize. But, Hugo isn't the only gamer who wants fame and glory. If Hugo wants to win he's going to have to beat Shamus (David Lehre, Epic Movie), the all time Turbo champ at the local Pandemonium arcade, and Ruse Kapri, a feisty prep girl that knows how to win. Realizing he can't win on his skill alone, Hugo turns to his brother Tobias a former kick-boxer whose last match left him wheel-chair ridden. Together the two will mend old wounds and see if a washed up street fighter can teach a troubled teen how to become a virtual gladiator!

<![CDATA[Romero Crazies Remake Actually Pretty Insane, Plus Twilight Sings]]> Remember the effeminate boy from High School Musical with all the fabulous hats? Well, he's a singing vampire now. But in better news, the Romero Crazies remake seems actually crazy, which is a good thing.

The Crazies
This recent remake seems to be similar in spirit to Romero's original. Town gets infected, starts killing its citizens, military steps in, hell breaks loose. But watch the whole trailer below, right through the end. I'm quite enjoying the bloody pitchfork scene.

Synopsis:

The American Dream goes horribly wrong when the residents of this picture-perfect town begin to succumb to an uncontrollable urge for violence and the horrific bloodshed escalates into anarchy. In an attempt to contain the epidemic, the military uses deadly force to close off access into or out of town, abandoning the few healthy citizens to the growing mayhem as depraved killers lurk in the shadows. Sheriff David Dutton (Timothy Olyphant); his pregnant wife, Judy (Radha Mitchell); Becca (Danielle Panabaker), an assistant at the medical center; and Russell (Joe Anderson), Dutton's deputy and right-hand man, find themselves trapped in a once idyllic town they can no longer recognize. Unable to trust former neighbors and friends, deserted by the authorities and terrified of contracting the illness themselves, they are forced to band together in a nightmarish struggle for survival.

I Kissed A Vampire

Next up: Lucas Grabeel, the chorus line dancing, hat-wearing "director" from HSM is pulling out the fangs for this little vampire musical. It's not bad, but it's not good. I wish they had gone a bit more over the top... I mean, if you're going to do a vampire musical, do a vampire musical! Go bananas with puppets, sex and blood! But you be the judge.

The Revenant
David Anders, who did some time on Heroes as well as the Children of the Porn Syfy remake, stars as a friendly zombie in the much-chatted-about The Revenant. The film is a "horror movie/buddy comedy about Joey and his undead friend Bart who comes back from the dead as a revenant: an articulate zombie that needs to drink blood to arrest the decomposition of his body." It did pretty well at Fantastic Fest and is gaining a lot of chatty momentum. Check it out:

<![CDATA[France Is Infested With Giant Crabs]]> We can not wait for Grégoire Sivan's short King Crab Attack — but we'll have to make do with the excellent trailer. Watch while giant crabs take France.

<![CDATA[First Horrific Clip From The Human Butt To Face Centipede Flick]]> Finally, the terrible moment is here! See the first video look at the Human Centipede, in which a scientist surgically links three humans together. Plus, enjoy a better look at the half-woman/half-snake film Hissss.

Human Centipede
It's been such a slow burn for this disgusting little film. All we've had to go on were the terrible pictures and synopsis about a mad scientist who kidnaps some poor souls to create his own Human Centipede by sewing their heads and bums together, but now the first clip is finally out, and it's just painfully horrible. Enjoy...?

Surprisingly, we've been hearing all sorts of mixed reviews from London and down at Fantastic Fest. Thanks, or no thanks, for pointing this out Slashfilm.

Hissss

I completely missed this trailer when it leaked out a few months ago, but just because it's a bit old doesn't mean you should miss out on the gorgeous Mallika Sherawat slithering around like a snake god. According to the site, this film centers around the Curse of the Cobra Goddess: "anytime man desecrates or violates the cobra, they are doomed to suffer the petrifying curse of the snake woman, of death and infertility." And it looks like the snake goddess is brought out of the jungle and into the city... uh oh.

Stake Land
Here are super quick behind the scenes looks at Stake Land, where the world has been overrun with vampires and a group of survivors try and make it across the US without any bite marks. This is from the director who did the rat-people film Mulberry Street, which actually scared me in a few places, so I'm excited to see what he does with vampires. The behind the scenes clips are from actress Danielle Harris, who you all may remember from Halloween 2, but for me she's always the awkward sister from Disney's Wish Upon A Star.

My Bloody Wedding
Quiet Earth pointed our attention to this hit-and-miss comedy that has a lot of great ideas, but kind of misses the mark on execution. Still, the main character (who is getting married to a recently possessed demon bride complete with demon bridesmaids) has a robot pal. We're a lot more interested in the robot than the actual wedding...

I can haz too?

Shorts:
Bunker
Here is a ten minute film shot with a RED ONE camera by Paul Doucet. This French short takes place at the end of the world where one lone survivor spends her days in an bunker waiting for contact from the outside world.

Legacy
From the mind of Grzegorz Jonkajtys, who brought us the beautiful short The Ark, comes Legacy about an alien coming down to Earth a bit too late...

<![CDATA[Imagine Film Festival Line Up Chases Down Wormholes Plus More Pesky Parasites]]> The science-centered Imagine Film Festival is back, bringing boatloads of new shorties and sci-fi minded movies. Plus a new "help help it's under my skin" horror movie, Growth. Embrace the cult!

The Imagine Festival is back in NYC, running from October 15 through the 24th. Last year, the festival brought us the wonderful Sleep Dealer along with director Alex Rivera, and introduced me to two of my favorite shorts, Transgressions and Lone. But here's what I'm excited about this year...

Wormhole Chaser
A wormhole opens in your apartment, who you gonna call?

"Wormhole Chasers" trailer from Imagine Science Films on Vimeo.

In Search of Memory
Imagine Festival also has a lot of strictly science documentaries. I'm delighted to see more of this memory-dabbling, partly because I'm just in love with this little bow tied scientist.

In Search Of Memory (Trailer) from Imagine Science Films on Vimeo.

Sizzle
This is a mockumentary about a documentary team shooting a film about Global Warming. While some of the jokes fall a bit flat, I like the idea of skewering something that we just can't stop making films about... especially if there's some sort of Polar-Bear-on-Man action.

"Sizzle: A Global Warming Comedy" Trailer from Imagine Science Films on Vimeo.

Extropy
A geneticist discovers the key to stopping the aging process, and now we can live forever, or die by his hands.

Extropy - Trailer from Imagine Science Films on Vimeo.

Quantum Quest
A lot of the films at the festival look good. However, Chris Pine, Samuel L. Jackson, and James Earl Jones' CG Quantum Quest does not. In a distant galaxy, an alien named DAVE had to SPACE SURF across the universe to give a gem ball message and protect the Skynet computer from Terminator 4. The video I found looks totally unfinished, so don't judge it on that. Judge it on the fact that the main character from an alien world is named DAVE. I may actually go see this just out of sheer self-hating curiosity.

We'll keep you updated as the festival gets closer, because there are still many more movies and shorts that we're excited by such as The MisInventions of Milo Weather and Naming Pluto.

Growth
In Non-Festival News, the trailer for Growth is out, looking all sorts of B-movie lovely. Basically, the world is being attacked by slimy under-the-skin parasites so mayhem and skin-cutting ensue. And, why yes! That is the guy from Charmed! And, no! That is not the Diabetes fella.

Poster:

Synopsis:

In 1989, a breakthrough in advanced parasitic research on Cuttyhunk Island, gave scientists a jump in human evolution. Initial tests proved promising as subjects were experiencing heightened physical and mental strength and awareness. But, something in the experiment went horribly wrong and the island mysteriously lost three quarters of its population...

Jamie Akerman fled the outbreak, which took her mothers life, twenty years ago. She now returns with her boyfriend and step brother, to sell the family property. There, they uncover the key to Jamie's disturbing past, and have to fight a new strain of parasite that has emerged, to threaten the island once again.

<![CDATA[It's Alive's Evil Baby Crawls Again Plus Zombies And Cigarettes]]> That fanged bloodthirsty baby is back in a remake - Check out the trailer, along with two adorable shorts with kids dancing with robots and running away from zombies.

It's Alive
Bijou Phillips, the curly headed girl from Hostel 2, stars in the straight-to-DVD '70s remake It's Alive. The film is pretty similar to the original in the sense that another woman gives birth to a baby that eats people and also has Mighty Mouse strength. Just one more reason to be afraid of those soft headed rosy-cheeked devils. Here's the new red band trailer from Bloody Disgusting. The DVD will be out October 6th.

<![CDATA[Super Powered Breasts Are Our Only Hope Against The Evil Fish People]]> I feel like I've been waiting a long time to write that headline. This week, meet Dogoo Girl and her magical crime-fighting breasts (They glow!). Next up, the first clip from Romero's next zombie movie and an Aswang attack.

Dogoo Girl
Here's the trailer for the Japanese TV Show The Amazing Dogoo Girl, from the wonderfully terrible minds who brought us Tokyo Gore Police and Robo Geisha. I'm not sure what I love more about the new TV show: the evil coy transforming lady, who is later seen in full-out make-out fish mode with another character, or the bee-breasts picture above. This isn't the first time we've seen super-powered lady parts being used for fighting crime, but it may be the first time I've heard about it on television. Hey, as long as you're using your lumps for justice, I'm behind you, Dogoo Girl!

(Thanks for the tip, Robert.)

Survival of the Dead

Next up is the first clip from George Romero's Survival of The Dead, which will be screening at Toronto for the lucky folks in Canada. I'm still not sure how I feel about this film, but I am happy to see the master tackling the much talked about zombie fishing scenario. Check it out...

Patient X

Twitch has the first trailer for Filipino monster movie based around the legend of the aswang, a beast that feeds on the insides of humans. As far as I can tell, it's your standard monster fare: people stuck in a building with the big bad, and trying to escape while being picked off one by one in the dark. But according to a very quick Google image search, the Aswang looks like the pictures below, which is a winged vampire beast with boobs, so that's Patient X one, Relic, zero.

Under The Mountain

Also from Twitch, which is a great place for Toronto Film festival updates I may add, are a slew of new clips from the Under the Mountain movie. The picture (which was actually an old TV series) stars a pair of twins that discover a freaky scary as hell alien race underground, then Dr. Grant shows up to help out. I've included a few of the clips from the upcoming premiere at TIFF. Jonathan King, who directed Black Sheep, is the brains behind this New Zealand film.

Here's the official synopsis:

When teenage twins Rachel and Theo Matheson investigate the creepy old house next door, they discover the Wilberforces - shape-shifting creatures that lurk beneath Auckland's ring of extinct volcanoes. Guided by the mysterious Mr Jones and with the help of their older cousin Ricky, the twins must rekindle the unique powers they once shared if they are to destroy this ancient evil - before it destroys them.

And if you don't remember the TV series....well here's that as well....

<![CDATA[Oshi's Winged Female Hunters Slay The Futuristic Graboids, And Our Hearts]]> Famed director for Ghost in the Shell, Mamoru Oshii's latest live action trailer is out featuring a team of kick-ass lady hunters searching for deadly sand whales over a barren wasteland Earth. Plus, robots with heart! This is Cult.

Assault Girls
The first look at Mamoru Oshii's Assault Girls is out and filled with beautiful but deadly women hunting for prey in a washed-out world. And we mean seriously washed-out... The filter on this trailer is thick. Thanks to Nippon Cinema for alerting us to the trailer. Already I'm completely enraptured with the hunters, especially Lucifer and her little hat. I yearn for a future where film like this become the Sex And The City replacement go to banter talk: "Oh, you're such a Lucifer with your sass and spunk!" But all kidding aside, I cannot wait to see more of this film, based off his previous short of the same name.

Synopsis:

In the aftermath of global thermonuclear war, the Earth's surface has been turned into a desert battlefield. Three beautiful female hunters: Gray (Meisa Kuroki), Lucifer (Rinko Kikuchi), and Colonel (Hinako Saeki) traverse the barren landscape armed with powerful assault rifles to fight a group of deadly sand-dwelling monsters called "sunakujira" (sand whales). When the the epic battle eventually seems to be coming to an end, the sparkle of muzzle flash dies down and assault ship flies overhead. Suddenly, a gigantic super mutation called "Madara Sunakujira" attacks.

Cyclops
Set in the future world of New Madrid, the futuristic story wraps around two police brothers. One of the brothers is plagued by nightmares and can't come to grips with his position in life and as a member of New Madrid's police team. Then one of them makes a terrible mistake... and that's all I got, sorry. My guess? One dies, the other loses an eye and gets his dead brothers eye, and now his brother can talk to him through the dead eye. Well, that's what I would do anyways. Check out the trailer and tell me what you suspect.

Trailer:

The Dark Lurking
An Aussie creature feature The Dark Lurking has released its first rough clip. Thanks to 24 Frames per second for pointing this little gem out. Looks like a Down Under combination of viral outbreaks and The Thing, but with more pus.

Synopsis:

2017: Something has gone terribly wrong at outpost 30, a secret international research facility some five hundred meters beneath the snow blown arctic wilderness. All communications are gone, all means of escape destroyed and an extremely dangerous horde of ancient creatures is on the loose after a doorway to an unspeakable evil has been unleashed. Eight survivors, two former research patients, three SOCOM Troops, two research technicians and a cleaner barricade themselves inside a remote area of the facility with little food, almost no ammunition and little hope of rescue. Their one possible escape route is through thirteen levels of terror that will lead them to the surface. And one of them is not who they seem to be, the darkness

Electronic Girl
Will we ever be rid of robots and their infernal feelings? New film called Electronic Girl takes place in the future where the human population is so low a robot work force is built, and of course eventually there's a need for sexy pouty robot women, as is so often the case. So a little she-bot is made, and then given feelings because why not make the future sex slave learn of its own shame or what not. The robot escapes but not before putting on a costume maid outfit and growing wings. Still the look to the film is interesting enough that I'll keep tabs on it.

<![CDATA[Snowy Apocalyptic Biker Cowboys Race Flying Cars]]> This week, we're bringing you flying cars and flying biker cowboys with plenty of greenscreeny action. Check out new trailers for Snow Blind and Black Lightning.

Black Lightning
The third teaser trailer from Timur Bekmambetov's high flying car adventure Black Lightning is out. The film looks pretty much like what you'd expect a movie about a flying car to feel like: silly, funny, and full of shots with people looking up into the sky thinking, "What? What? A flying car... but that's so zaaaney!" But in a different language. I promise to post the English translation the second it pops up, but until then, enjoy the fancy flying car and think of those that flew before him paving the skies for calamity, like Chitty Chitty and the Flubber mobile.

Snow Blind
It's a snowy green screen winter post-apocalyptic Western! This film, which calls itself a "post apocalyptic spaghetti Western," was shot entirely on green screen and is supposed to be taken lightly... hence the motorcycle driving through the snow scene:

The setting is a parallel universe in which earth has been hit by a second ice age in the middle of the 20th century, which is a great excuse for having cowboys riding around on heavy motorbikes and toting machine pistols.

Days Of Victory
Quiet Earth has the new poster for this movie, which takes place on Earth many years in the future when religious wars have all but destroyed the planet. Here's the synopsis:

In 2011, WWIII broke out between the UN and the Muslim world. The world split in two leading to large scale emigration. The New World Order (NOW) was formed and fascism spread across the world. 90% of nature was destroyed.

In 2152, tension escalated and WW IV broke out. The NOW dispatched "artificial intelligence" troops to wage war against the Muslim community. The war lasted several years with much bombing and destruction. Even so, the Muslim world became a big nation. NOW united the neutral countries to expand their allies and prepare for total elimination of the Muslim world.

The Year is now 2200. WW V has begun and the world has become a post-apocalyptic society with Muslims on one side and the rest of the world on the other – both sides united in hatred towards one another.

The story revolves around two fighter pilots from each side of the world. They meet during an air attack where they are forced to fly into the desolated area where no one has lived for decades. After an intensive air strike, both planes are damaged and forced to land and continue the fight on land. Soon the two pilots realize what the war has done to the world: inanimate nature, tornados rage past them, tons of garbage lines the desolate streets and war materials fly by them. After fighting for days they lose communication and realize that despite their differences they need each other to survive. With the climate as their enemy, they are 2000 miles from freedom: left without food or transportation. As they struggle to survive, a friendship grows between them.
