Alright, so I got it and watched it tonight, and it was brilliant. Not exactly scary but Jeremy Irons is, to be reptitious, absolutely brilliant in this movie. Definitely one of his best movies and some of the best duplicate acting I have ever seen in my life. It wasn't cheesy or over the top like most 80's horror fare and the whole thing was creepy as hell, especially at the end so I am glad I watched it. Thanks for the clip CJ or else this movie would have went unnoticed by me and that would have been a shame. #davidcronenberg
@Makidian: The movie isnt at all like the book except that they are twin docs. The book is based on a true story and is creepy in it's own right. #davidcronenberg
I saw this film when I was 18. Jeremy Irons playing two identical twins in such a way that you could tell when one twin was impersonating the other twin was a feat of acting every drama student should either be forced to watch, to learn, or prevented from watching, to keep them from just giving up.
They weren't torture instruments CJ, they were supposed to be "revolutionary new medical instruments," and Iron's character was white-faced serious about it. That was what was so unsettling about the whole scene.
@Jack_Burton: Well, he just takes them and runs while someone screams after him, and he keeps shouting "They're mine!" I guess I've seen the movie a few times too many. #davidcronenberg
Not MUTANTS, mutant, singular. His tools are developed for Genevieve's character, who has... three cervix, if i'm not mistaken. It was one of the brothers' obsession with her multi-cervixed self that sends the "psychic" paternal balance out of whack, no? (What is the plural of cervix?)
One of my favourite Cronenberg films! I have a ratty VHS copy that disintegrated just as I got a nice, crisp DVD copy.
I saw this film in the theater. I barely knew who Cronenberg was at the time... Jeremy Irons still skeeves me out when ever I see him... but quickly got up to speed.
Weird but, because of their masks (and I'm sure among other random minor things) I found it very hard to follow what he was saying (and therefore too distracted to actually key into any emotional reaction I was having).
So yeah, not scary on it's own but interested enough to watch it. #davidcronenberg
Dead Ringers is one of my very favorite movies. Cronenberg is my favorite director and this is one of his best films. Crash, Videodrome and maybe Naked Lunch are the ones that give it the most competition for "My Favorite Cronenberg Film." #davidcronenberg
By itself it doesn't seem scary but I am intrigued enough to want to watch it. I will say that Jeremy Irons looks much cooler now than he did then, more badass with age I suppose. #davidcronenberg
I remember the first time i saw this movie. I was HORRIFIED by this scene. It still gives me the heebie-jeebies just thinking about it. #davidcronenberg
