I was disappointed not to see Lukyanenko's Last Watch mentioned. Not. To. Be. Missed. Savor this one, kids, with our economy in the gulag, who knows when his many other novels will be translated?

@AlfredaCabaret: Does sound great. But this is December books, and Last Watch came out in November.

"This is book 19 set in the postapocalyptic shared universe of Wild Cards, where most of humanity has been wiped out by an alien virus - and the rest of the population has morphed into crazed zombies and a few superheroes."

What? Have I stumbled into an alternate universe? 'Cause that's not what Wild Cards has been, and doesn't seem to be what Busted Flush is, either, judging by the description on Amazon.

@QuimbyRhea: Not sure what the concern is? I think it's not completely off to call the Jokers a kind of zombie. Or mutant.

Not to judge a book by its cover, but "Kilimanjaro" seems to be about a man who's about to be sodomized by a rhino.

So "Muse of Fire" is an expansion of a novella or novelette (forget which it was), "Kilimanjaro" is a sequel to "Kirinyaga", and "Vor. Companion" is about a long-running series. Yet these books will be good and I will read them.

Why is it the book writers can do sequel and semi-remake things and make them good, but the movie people can't? (rhetorical question, I know why)

@Evil Tortie's Mom: No Muse of Fire is the original novella. It's just coming out in book form.

I am actually kind of sick of book sequels. But I like books set in a shared universe, which is kind of like sequel lite.

@Annalee Newitz: Ah. Then I don't need to read it again. Thanks. Maybe you could put that in the article? Explains why my library only returned the search for it in an anthology. Doesn't explain why they don't have the Resnick on order, grrr.

Quick question, will the commentary by Dumbledore include some reference to his hot steamy male love trysts? Cause I'm still waiting for the gay payoff to that publicity boosting announcement.

@Evlsushi: Not in kids' stories for Xmas and charity, I'll bet. Not even a passing mention.

You probably have to wade into fanfic for that.

Maybe JK will leave some Dumbledore pr0n to be published after her death?

@Evil Tortie's Mom: I should do a roundup of good Dumbledore gay fanfic for the holidays. Any recommendations?
