I think we can all agree that the pinnacle of his thespian efforts has been Galaxy Quest. I think he depicted every human emotion and aspiration in that one role.
I really don't think Terrence Howard's reps want to give off the 'problematic' image, and I think Marvel would prefer if the controversy were ignored. So I'm just wondering who is keeping this story alive? No one will ever tell us the truth until Terrence Howard is interviewed in ten years about the 'making of Iron Man.' And RDJ is so much less entertaining off screen when he's sober, but on screen he's better. So I like it.
@Meg Mucklebones: A long history of being a solid character actor (Boogie Nights, Out of Sight) eventually lead to a slightly larger role in Traffic and Ocean's Eleven, which put him on the radar for Crash and Hotel Rwanda. His career trajectory is a bit like Sam Jackson's was, only obviously different types of characters.
Because there is just not one damn other thing going on to expend one's time and energy on.
I like both actors but prefer Cheadle's work, so I don't really care WHO plays the role. I do wonder why they replaced Howard, though. *goes to look for scuttlebutt*
umm...did i miss something in the headline? there was nothing in this article at all. who the fuck cares about IM3 at this point? there was NO AVENGERS CAST ANNOUNCED AT ALL. what the fuck?
@meatybucket: No, they announced that Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle would be in it, thus confirming what we all already knew. So the headline was accurate—the news it referred to was just boring.
@Kaos78: Stark is a one trick pony. He's got robotech and shit that explodes. Parker is a nerd with a workshop in his basement. Richards has Shrink rays, spaces ships, formulas, multi-dimesional portals, as well as all of the above. Richards wins!
Pretty smart yes, but not exactly at the "elite" levels that Richards and and Banner are at.
However, he has one thing over them, his knowledge and skill with the occult arts, which he sometimes combines with science (to mostly disastrous effect).
Really both of us could be right or wrong depending on opinion and current writer.
However, there are only two characters that are actually ranked as far as I know.
1. Reed
7. Amadeus Cho
Everyone else is in that grey area.
The Doom thing is kind of silly though since even though he is a genius, his plans more or less never come to fruition (due to lack of common sense). When he's doing the "take over the world" thing, not the "rule Latveria with an iron fist (haha) and raise it to levels befitting a world power."
Reed on the other hand, is one of Marvel's Deus Ex Machinas. That is, whenever anything is seemingly hopeless, Reed steps in with a new awesome gadget and fixes everything in one fell swoop.
That said, I can't recall any storylines where Banner (not Hulk) is used to this effect.

"Mr. Stark, shouldn't we wait for Mr. Rhodes?"
Stark (angrily): "Rhodes? Where we're going, we don't need Rhodes."
You're welcome Jon Favreau.

But a nice neutral, "I'm still a cool guy" answer.

I have to say, tho, I really liked the idea of Howard as War Machine. His swagger is comparable to Downey's.
But do I care enough to sign a petition? Depends on how the election goes, I suppose.

Can't say I remember how Cheadle got on the map, it seems like he suddenly just showed up as being an 'it' actor. He has done some crappy movies.

Like getting Journeyman and Surface back on the air to replace Heroes and Knight Rider.

Um, no. Doom is widely acknowledge as being second only to Richards in terms of smarts. This is in addition to his dabbling in the occult.
Banner is only a genius when the writers get lazy. Most of the time he's just a nuclear physicist chained to a big green monster.
