There's a saying among writers that every writer has one story to tell, and he/she attempts to tell that one story in a variety of ways. Like the cliche says, there are many sides to a story, and if Joss hasn't finished telling those sides, which we know he isn't, regardless of what audiences/production companies think, he's going to do his best to tell those stories in whatever format is available for him to use. Firefly, Buffy, Dollhouse, the man's going to keep going.
I think by newest technology they are referring to the Imprinting device on Dollhouse. Because if the PGA is gonna give Whedon an award for anything after that suck-fest it's proof that they are all dolls and Joss is their master.
Writers/producers/directors all want more attention to go toward "new media". As of right now most of them don't get a cut of online money (Itunes sales/ad bucks) even if they produce material exclusively for online. This would change if "New Media" was recognized as its own distribution channel, not merely as an advertising forum for tradition outlets. ..
So I'm calling this a jump on the bandwagon moment more then anything.
@Tracy Ham and Eggs: sure, but its a bandwagon we should all be on, so I'm happy.
Shows should survive or die purely by how much fans value them. And thats what online distro can give us.
@ggodo, the man from R.O.A.C.H.: I guess with Dollhouse done now, she's out of her obligation to Fox so perhaps both she and Joss can get on with other things.
@ggodo, the man from R.O.A.C.H.: There's two kinds of producers: Line men, and artists. Line men have a singular job, and that's to make the network happy, by making a show that gets the most viewers and attracts the highest paying sponsors. They run an ecosystem. Whedon fancies himself an artist: an artist will stand his ground and let his art die before he compromises. Which for us fans mean instead of enjoying years and years of quality television that is constantly evolving to make it's self more attractive, we get brief spurts of genius followed by long pauses while the artist starves to find a creative outlet willing to pay for his ego because he stepped on the toes of the last fools who were distributing his art. Whedon needs to self publish, because only HE won't mind if he doesn't make his money back.
I'm just picking up Dr. Horrible this week. There's nothing else on my radar until next week, and my wallet couldn't be happier about that. #alienlegion
Tell you what. Every time Io9 runs a Whedon-related article, we have to down a six-pack. We should all be dead of alcohol poisoning in no time. #alienlegion
This guy is definitely a genius, and definitely Stooo-pid, as Dexter said more then once about his sister. This show is the Rocky and Bullwinkle of my daughter's generation.
