(This is Harrison Krix, the guy who made the suit - this article was posted on therpf.com and I just popped by to take a look. Thanks for the praise on my work guys!)
Thing is, I'm far from a professional. My foray into propmaking started around October of last year when I started work on my Portal Gun. After that, I decided to do more of this stuff, but I'm still just a hobbyist. "Professionally" I work as a Graphic Designer at an ad agency in Atlanta.
All of my props are built out of my garage, with mostly simple bench tools, all in my free time.
I do appreciate the compliment that I have so much skill I could do a great job even phoning in a build, but I assure you thats not the case. If it seems that way, its just because I don't document my numerous screw-ups in my blog!
honestly, for me, this loses a little something when i know that the guy who made it is a professional costume maker.
Generally the people who do the costumes of various sorts are just people who are REALLY into said video game, anime, etc. They then start from scratch and depending on variables such as tools, materials, time, and overall commitment to the project. They then give it a shot and, based on these variables, the costume comes out to some degree of quality. This guy though could not particularly give a rats and still do an absolute top notch job.
The suit is absolutely beautiful (i cant believe the drill actually spins!)and i truly admire him for his talent, but this is almost like comparing food prepared by someone like me who cook every once in a while, to a gourmet meal prepared by a 5 star world renowned chef.
@jrghoull: i don't see that it detracts from it at all. there are plenty, likely tens of thousnads or more, who do the same professional work he does without spending their free time on costumes for video games. it's obvious he gives a rats ass because if he didn't there's no way he'd spend all the money on materials and all the time to assemble them on such a project.
unless he's just using his professional skills to get laid but for that little sister who could really blame him if that's the case?
@OW-Holmes--Upset with Polling: would you kindly explain what, specifically, peaks your interest in a cos-play of a middle aged man in a tan double brested business suit and glasses carrying a golf club?

I would however like to see an Andrew Ryan costume.

Kidding. That's awesome. And a little scary how much time was devoted to it.
