Seeing as though the minimum fee is different for actors when they do not speak lines, I think maybe his investors were going under the assumption that they wouldn't have to pay the actors much because they thought there was going to be no dialogue.

usually, I'd be worried if a director seems to be so heavily influenced. I'd be concerned he is going to produce something derivative. But the esthetic of "Moon" was clearly influenced by both "2001" and "Alien" and still completely original, so I'll keep an open mind.
Damn it I wanted to see that movie. But the only place that had it was in Dallas. And I hate Dallas. So much. I'll get it on Blu-Ray, I'm sure it's worth buying.
I've heard rumors of this on IMDB. I'd be interested to see what they come up with. The movie is called Mute, and apparently, it'll be different, which would make sense if Rockwell's character is only a cameo.
Though I enjoyed Moon as a good story, I'm not going to give it praise for being 'smart' until we get an explanation for why the inside of the space station had Earth-standard gravity and outside it was.. well, like it would be on the moon. It's not like AC, folks: closing the door doesn't keep all the gravity in.
So did real people actually like moon? I can see it being a "critics" movie but when I went to see it at the local indie movie theater everyone I talked to after seemed to think it was a bit lacking.
I didn't think there was much drama or tension between the two and the "twist" seemed pretty obvious.
@tande04: I'm a 'real person' and I loved it. I think it's one of the smartest films of the year. I don't think it had so much a 'twist' as it did a reveal, which was then explored.
You say that everyone you talked to seemed to think it was a bit lacking. Did YOU think it was lacking? It would be nice to hear what you thought of 'Moon' rather than what the other people thought. I don't think there was suppose to be drama and tension between the two, beyond the initial meeting.
I'm not saying it was perfect but I will say I thought it was brilliant, and a wonderful change from all the big, loud summer blockbusters (which I also enjoy).
@utini42: I agree that it was more of a reveal with exploration. What I loved about it was the development of characters. The scene in the crawler after he gets a message back to Earth was just beautifully done and really stuck with me. I also really liked Gurdy. Hell I liked the whole movie and can't wait for it to hit dvd so I can rewatch it and share it with people I know.
For a second I thought his next movie was going to be a cheesy story about a world run by an all powerful AI who sends people into space so that their children can be mutants with special powers.

If anybody ever makes a film version of 'Gun With Occasional Music,' I'd love to see Duncan Jones' name attached.
