Well thats The Rocks film career firmly flushed down the shitter! I honestly wanted this to be good. But it looks bloody terrible. He is hosting RAW this week or next so I suppose a new contract deal might be good!!
There's an error in your post, Lauren. At the start of the second paragraph you say his recent movies were "comedies." I do not think that word means what you think it means.
Honestly, why is this here except as a troll post? Sure, it got me but I'm cranky. Is there any member of the io9 community interested in this?
@NerD: Blattella:
I love Dwayne Johnson and all his muscley goodness, but I refuse to attend films where 70% of the audience needs to hold their parent's hand when going to the restroom.
"Dwayne Johnson continues the Hollywood tradition of surly, no-nonsense males getting stuck in stereotypically feminine roles. Otherwise known as, 'This pool isn't going to pay for itself' films."
I'm sure you mean, "Otherwise known as Dwayne Johnson's career."
@edosan: Do you think Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel are duking it out to see he gets to play the movie version of Thomas Beatie, otherwise known as "The Pregnant Man" otherwise known as "The Pregnant "Man""
I always thought he left the WWE because he wanted to be the next action jackson. I didnt think DOOM was that bad, it wasnt epic but as computer games to films go..it beats Mortal Kombat!! Im really not diggin the Rock, Dwayne Johnson (or whatever the hell hes calling himself), at all. Im just not a fan of WWE stars becoming film stars. I know people will argue that the transistion is very simple and easy. But its not. They only have to open their mouths for a small segment of the show, usually its 4 minutes of shit chat and then the smackdown. For a wrestler to open his gob for a full 2 hours is ear splitting. I hope the Rock Dwayne...jeff ah fuck it, excepts Cenas offer to go back into the ring and get his career back. This may just end it. Oh........and I know wrestlings fake!! Its just very cool in a fake kinda way!
The Rock is really funny. Even in his WWF days, this was obvious.
But watch the first 5 minutes of the rundown, and tell me he isn't a great action star.
The ROCK has personality, something most of the 80s action stars never had.. He can't be the next Arnold or Sylvestor Stalone... he's closer to the next Bruce Willis, in that he doesn't get by on muscles alone...
Bruce takes rolls like this and his career is fine, definitely out lasted and out shined Stalone. Dwayne's formula has been successful so far, stop hating.
I really liked Game Plan and honestly Dwayne has a universal appeal that shouldn't be wasted on lame action flicks like DOOM and i think he knows that.
Following what you'd want him to do, would be flushing his career down the crapper. He's playing to his biggest advantage, his personality. He's taking films that actually allow him to act, not just run from giant things or fight robots.
True he's pandering to kids, teens and parents but the movies have actually been fun enough to draw us in too...and actually be good.

Think of the semi-talented pro wrestlers. For just pennies a day you could save someone like poor little Dwayne from making the next Mr. Nanny!

At least they aren't trying to find a Sci-fi angle to post about Jon Gossellin or Roman Polanski.

It looks stupid and aimed at 10 year-olds. It's going to be huge.

I'm surprised he didn't make his way into The Expendables somehow.
