JJ Abrams clever? He's an idiot. Take a look at his interview over at Memory-Alpha...

    [memory-alpha.org]

Pay special attention to his answer to the 4th from last question. He doesn't even know what DS9 or Voyager is!!!

I cannot believe they let this guy ruin Star Trek without making him do a little research first.

@Lila Maldicion: Eh, it reads as though he misinterpreted the question.

Besides, a DS9 or Voyager film would be just as hack as each of the series.

Io9 really thought the corvette over the cliff was a symbol?

The "Sabotage" thing I can see in either direction, but that corvette conclusion is quite a stretch.

I'm thinking instead of The Beastie Boys, the best music for the Corvette scene would have been Rush's "Red Barchetta."

Sometimes directors are actually unaware of what the props people, et cetera, are doing. So some of those things that have been noticed were probably not coincidences.

Does there really need to be a fancy canon explanation for why we have better effects tech and a bigger budgets? I don't see why it's that big a deal to have a bridge that looks more in keeping with extrapolations of our current technology.

The skydiving from space was a nod to Star Trek V, believe it or not. In a deleted scene, Kirk does the same thing.

It was portrayed in the comic book adaption and the novelization.

In the opening scene on the Kelvin there is an alien on the bridge that looked to me just like the one that used to be on the bridge from Star Trek the animated series.

What about the red uniform! Whenever an unknown actor wears a red uniform on an away mission, he will be killed. This commandment was enforced when Kirk, Sulu and the unknown actor wearing a red uniform flew down to the drill. As soon as they showed the actor wearing his red uniform you knew what was up.
