In this context and poster, the butterfly referred to is Ray Bradbury's from 'A Sound of Thunder' and not the butterfly from 'The Butterfly Effect'. The latter is more of a quantum universe, not a temporal, insect (or is it arthropod). Plus we never met the bug in the movie, but we did (post-mortem) in the story.

Sure, stepping on an ant could change the future massively...but I think its more likely it wouldn't. I think it would take a very special ant.
I think most events have many cause's not just one "threshold" one. So as the changes spread out over the timeline, they get less intense. Like putting a bucket of paint in the ocean. Eventually it will spread out and effect the colour of the whole ocean...but it will be in such a subtle way, it wouldnt be noticeable.
Of course, I dont think we would ever be able to test this.
If we ever did invent time machines, we couldnt change the future anyway, as changes would always loop-around untill stable anyway, and no one would remember any difference.
