@Indigen: Different purposes for each, sounds like. And Universal likely has needed quite a few different copies of the Ecto 1. Probably not as many as they needed of the General Lee, but still quite a few.
@Doctor Who?: When the first Ghostbusters was filming there was only one Ecto-1. One of the extra features on the recent BluRay release was covering the restoration of Ecto-1 so it could be used on promotional tours for the BluRay release, and before the restoration was started it was in very poor condition. If there had been more than one Ecto-1, I`m not sure why they would be making a big deal about restoring one, as surely they would have just used a different one for promotional purposes.
If this is a legitimate item, I would strongly suspect that the car for sale isn`t the Ecto-1 used in the films, and definitely not the Ecto-1 used for the first film. Most likely it is a cheaper replica that was made for promoting the films. Still would like to be able to own it though.
@Doctor Who?: When I went to Universal Studios as a kid, I remember seeing the Back to the Future DeLorean and being very excited... until I went on the tour and saw 6 more of them. The one on display had a big sign saying something like "The original car from the movie!" but it failed to mention that it was one of many.
@slater: Heck, watch BttF 3. The scene where Marty is hot-rodding it across the desert away from the Indians? That is TOTALLY not the regular DeLorean. That sucker's practically a monster truck.
