A majority of the people on this planet sincerely believe that there is some sort of anthropomorphic deity [or deities] sitting on a throne and deciding who's been naughty or nice.

Can you imagine the pathological mayhem that would ensue if - whoops - there is life [humanoid or otherwise] on other worlds?

"Uhhm...sorry every person ever killed in the name of [insert god]. We sort of messed up."

The only thing dopier than the anally-fixated Grays is the idea of a Government competent enough to keep all this hidden. I'd love to believe in little grey aliens who have been visiting Earth for years, yet managed to leave *no* physical trace of their presence whatsoever, beyond a few blurry photos of streetlamps and a funny feeling when I try to sit down.

That's not to say I don't believe in the existance of other life. The universe is a very large and very old place. I'm sure somewhere in it's infinite vastness, there's another civilization of sentient slime molds, and possibly even complex, evolved organisms like ourselves. Unfortunately, they're so far away, that direct contact (even if you could travel at the speed of light) is likely to be impossible.

@twDarkflame: Travel light years to get here, but the last 100 miles was too much for them to figure out. When I think of a spaceship traveling all that way and crashing, the scene of the whale from Hitchhiker's Guide pops into my head.

Here's a nice paranoid hypothesis: UFO's are actually inhabited by time travellers. Explains their similarity to humans and sometimes-reported sexual interest in humans. The gov't has captured some and is hiding the awful truth about our future.

Of course the government wants you to worry about aliens; they will even secretly confirm their existence. What they wont tell you about is the underwater psychic unicorn factory or that Orville Redenbacher, Macauly Caulking, and Sherlocke Holmes actually rule the world.

For us to say we arnt alone is very egotistical and ignorant. We evolved as such, from the very essence that lives out in space..planets with their own suns..normal enough to sustain life however so great or small, advanced or non-advanced. Im no expert, and most UFO encounters are just hockum, that coupled with the crazys out there just make people sceptical!! But with more evidence coming back day in and day out from NASA and their telescopes, it looks like the endless-ness of space just might contain more intellegent beings than us...We have Big Brother, so most space dust is more intellegent!!

Yeah, but isn't this guy a little crazypants? He claims that he had cancer (which was never confirmed with a biopsy) and that his cancer was cured remotely by a healer who lives in Vancouver, for who knows how much.

@Fate'sBitch: Unfortunately, certain things on a resume create assumptions about a person's credibility that ain't necessarily so. Astronaut, physics professor, four-star general - they can all still be (or turn into) total nutjobs.

This is why I always get a laugh when some country bumpkin sheriff's deputy sees a UFO, and the stern narrator on "The UFO Files" describes him as a "trained observer."

Dude, what is he talking about? There's ninety million Star Trek fans practically creaming their pants at the thought of being part of an interplanetary community. The Japanese have an entire bureau of their government dedicated to opening friendly relationships with aliens.
