Uh oh, I can envision a bunch of enraged Glauites attacking a baseball stadium.

I think most people are wondering and I'm excited to see her get a try. Hopefully the show isn't pulled before we get to see it.

Speaking of which, I thought Amy Acker as the Dr. who had no life and just happened to be young and very attractive as well stretched believability for me, but then they came up with a good reason for that and it worked.
I'm not sure they can do the same for Glau.
On the other hand, her playing a dork can only increase the level of geekworship she gets, if such a thing is even possible.

Faith vs. River?
I always wanted Buffy there, but this is the next best thing. Also, if Echo ever says "five by five", it's officially a crossover.
09/28/09
The Phonetic Alphabet names of the Actives and "five by five" (old radio slang for a strong and clear signal) make me curious if Joss or one of his family is a ham radio enthusiast or did that sort of service in the military.
But I digress.
I know you're not serious, but the inclusion of any supernatural elements would ruin Dollhouse. "Five by five" would be a cute Easter Egg. Maybe too cute.
09/28/09
The first six of the phonetic alphabet names are commonly used at least in my experience by software developers reading hexadecimal numbers over the phone (like, when you're on the phone at 4AM doing Tier 5 technical support).

however, the rape? how can it be rape if the original host of the body consented to it (well most of them consented). Then each of the imprinted-personalities also typically consent.
prostitution is a better descriptor. however, would Lassus agree with that all hetero-sexual relationships are rape?
08/26/09
And even though the imprinted identities give their consent, is it really free will when someone is frakking with it?
08/26/09
The debate already raged of my problems with the mere concept of the show as slavery as entertainment without any kind of moral counter-weight in the past.
They punish the handler for abusing the doll, but then send them out to be fucked for fun by others?
I admit I seem to be the only one who sees it this way. I'm not sure why. I've heard all the "THEY CHOSE IT" and "WHEDON's METAPHOR FOR SOCIETY" arguments, but I call bullshit. I still see just see condoned subjugation as entertainment in this show.
-shrug-
08/26/09
and i think November treated the Rapist just the way he deserved. Do not cross DeWitt.
Your meat sack is just a meat sack, when you can download your identity and exist somewhere else. Plus is it rape, when everyone who knows is dead and/or the memory is deleted?
08/26/09
Specious.
"(well most of them consented)"
And there's your answer.
08/26/09
Tell me you are not serious with this statement.
So if you drug or kill the person who was raped so they don't remember or exist, it's not rape? I don't want to assume that's what you're saying, but... that DOES sound like what you're saying.
08/26/09
Take Ballard, for example. He sets November free but he is now a part of the problem. It's not a "good" decision, he feels guilty about it.
And Boyd is also a great example. He takes the moral high ground and considers himself to be a "good" handler. Ballard (before his team switch) sees him as just as bad as any other handler. Why is this? Because he sorta is.
If you think that there aren't consequences for the wrong-ness present in the DH check Epitaph One for the result. It's what happens when things like the DH exist.
Dollhouse is in no way condoning slavery, rape and prostitution.
08/26/09
I see this thinking regarding the use of "condoning". I can admit that true condoning might not be occurring if it is admitted that it does not take a strict definition of rape and slavery to see that this show is FULL of these things happening. In every single show.
It is the lack of real examination (as Garrison says) by the show, and somewhat cavalier "this is so cool and nothing REALLY bad is happening" attitude by the audience that kind of troubles me.
08/26/09
but seriously if all the Good Intentions pave the path to hell, where do all the bad ones take you?
08/27/09
08/27/09
08/27/09
ahem
08/27/09
Whether or not the audience understands the nuance is one thing, but unless I'm watching the different show, the entire point of the series is that, yes, this is supposed to be bad. In fact, it's so bad that this slavery and rape, which is treated so casually by the characters, leads to the downfall of human civilization.
09/02/09
Actually, the "all sex is rape" idea is popular among some radical feminists. Even some non-radical fems say the same about prostitution, because prostitution has economic factors that make consent a little muddy.
Can we at least admit that it's *kinda* creepy?
09/02/09
Exactly. Whatever Whedon's intent, he can't control how the audience "reads" the show. (type "misaimed fandom" into tvtropes) And certainly it seems that this is the way Fox is selling it, although I could be wrong.
08/26/09
sorry to all you dollhouse lovers but i am a dollhouse equal oppurtunity hater.......

A: By "science fiction haze" do they mean generic locations in and around L.A.? I think the A-Team had the same haze. Why not just rename it DyllHyse if you want to shed your nerdiness.
B: I am glad they're getting to some murder and sex. Short of her being in lingerie from the get go, Ballard's love affair with a murder-bot, all the murders, all the sex and murders in the Dollhouse, and all the times they were on a sex mission, and all the times they were on murder missions, there wasn't really any of that last season.

Harglbargl!!!1!
Yeah that was a pretty dumb statement, as I'm pretty sure there was sex and murder in just about every episode.
Also, I sure do wonder how Ballard is going to work there with his former sex/murder-bot GF in the next (feng-shui'd) room.

LOL!! Reminds me of how every investigation on "CSI" takes place in a dark house with flashlights. I'm always thinking it would be easier to find bullets and random evidence if you turned the lights on.

Research, Joss, research. Get an intern to do it if you can't be bothered. I like this show a lot, but it still pisses me off how little he cares about how things actually work in the real world.
08/01/09
You don't see a lot of negotiators-for-hire who don't work for the police. Especially when they specialize in kidnappings. They could theoretically exist in more clandestine industries, but that brings us back to the problem of researching something you cannot research.
