I'd like to recommend "Ike at the Mike" by Howard Waldrop. It's a tasty little slice of allohistory where Senator E. Aaron Presley is entertained by his favorite jazz musicians, "Pops" Armstrong and "Ike" Eisenhower. So sad that their longtime drummer had passed away only a few days prior. They don't make 'em like George "Wild Man" Patton any more.

Bubba Ho-tep has got to be one of Bruce Campbells greatest moments. I rally dont want to give the story away..all I can say is this. If you havent seen it, why??? Go and pick it up on DVD and watch it. Its bloody brilliant. And to be fair, the reason why Elvis is in an old folks home actually makes a little bit of sense! Crazy sense. But its Campell and we dont question why. Bubba Ho-tep 2 couldnt get here quicker. I know theres reasons why it couldnt happen..but balls to it.........Bubba Ho-tep 2 now. Please!!

@CoffinDodger (If the typos crap. Blame my...: The best review I ever read of this movie (which if fantastic) came from some small city newspaper. A legit paper (probably Minneapolis or Denver or something comprable). Regardless, it wasn't like "Moviefanz.net" or some site like that.

The general gist of the review was "Bruce Campbell will never get it, but he deserves a best actor Oscar nomination for making us actually believe this could have happened, and that we're actually watching Elvis in an old age home." And you know what? It's absolutly true.

This movie is up there with Ghostbusters, The Blues Brothers, and Clue as one of my all time faves. Thank God Bruce was smart enough to turn down the sequel.

@Dead Air ummm Dead Air: Bruce was extremely game to do the sequel, and he, Lansdale, and Coscerelli (sp??) would talk about it often, but Bruce didn't like the direction Cos wanted to go.

The original plan was to make BUBBA NOSFERATU prequel, circa CLAM BAKE. I don't know of Bruce felt like he'd just gotten too fat, or if Cos changed his mind to do old, fat Elvis, which Bruce would now be perfect for (after watching him on BURN NOTICE).

@Allen_Richards: If you saw My name is Bruce (and if you haven't, shame on you!), shot approximately the same time BC was doing Burn Notice, you'll notice that Bruce looks way more fit than he does on the latter, which leads me to suspect that he's actually made up to be as "over the hill" as Sam Axe is. Easier that way than to make-up someone to look slim. But what do I know, anyone seen him at a con or some such lately? (And that's the story of how io9 made the plummet into celebrity gossip land)

As faithful an adaptation of Joe Lansdale's novela as BUBBA HO-TEP is, read the short. It's soooo much darker. Probably Lansdale's most personal story.

I read a short story, the main character/narrator worked at a New Age bookstore in Colorado, and her boss, an elderly Southern man was... certainly at LEAST an avatar of EP.

I'm glad you included Elvissey by Jack Womack. The plot sounds like it would be a humor based novel but it is in fact an intense trip into a future where society has been pushed to extremes. Womack creates a future linguistic style that makes this story not about the future but in fact from the future. I highly recommend any of his books from the Dryco Series.

I'm sorry to say, but I thought Bubba Ho-Tep was a piece of garbage. And this is coming from a long time Bruce Campbell fan, and someone whose alarm music in the morning for 3 years was Elvis's Blue Hawaii.

I don't know why, but when I read the headline and saw the picture... For a moment I thought this was an article proclaiming Bruce Campbell death... and I panicked a little.

It's very interesting just how obsessed people still are with Elvis. I'm hard pressed to think of any other celebrities that have his longevity - so to speak.

@Dunny0: Marilyn Monroe. For similar reasons. I also may or may not have taken a college course on 1950s culture that featured a two week unit on Elvis and a two week unit on Marilyn.
