I'm on my second play through right now and I'm taking my time to really appreciate all the detail in the game. It really is fun to play.

For my money, though, if you're in the market for a game right now, Fallout 3 or LittleBigPlanet are the way to spend your money.

Also, having played through the game and apparently missed a fair amount of background info this filled in a lot of holes that troubled me. There are still holes in this and the game but ... I make allowance for decent scifi horror, though I wish i didn't have to.
The game is pretty good. It's nothing new in really any respect, but effective.
This really is a symphony of fear. It's all fear all the time and yeah that can be too much and inure you to it, but take it in decent sized chunks and it neither becomes too much nor desensitizing. the very last moment of the game was the only thing that got me to actually shout, even though I saw it coming.
Oh and btw here's another game that ripped off system shock 1&2 . God those games were good.

Still, I think there's a great possibility for some sort of adaptation (live-action feature, anyone?) in addition to whatever sequel game they're indubitably planning.
And really, if you have a 360 or PS3 and don't mind playing something insanely gory (I usually stick with less violent games as much as possible, but), you should pick up Dead Space.
