I just got back from catching one of the Atl. screenings and=WOW!! It was freakin' awesome!! Lot's of great fx, creature/viking carnage, acting, etc. That and a cool story to boot. Highly recommended that you guys catch this on the big screen right away!! It was definitely one of the best, most kick-ass monster flicks I've seen in some time.
First positive review I have read for this (the best I've read is an "eh" from Cinematical) with most calling it on the level of a Sci Fi channel movie.
Your review kinda seems to be making a lot of excuses for its cheesiness...
I'll wait for it to show up on the Sci Fi channel in a few months.
@Hotscot: Actually, you are totally right. In fact there's this weird moment in the movie where Kainan is like, "Oh yeah I feel really guilty and bad because actually we destroyed the Moorwens and their planet." And then they go back to hunting and killing it. I guess that's the difference between monster movies in the 50s and now - back then we had no guilt about killing "aliens" and now we do. But we still kill them.
@Annalee Newitz: While it may have been wrong to destroy them and their planet, it's still wrong to let one of them run amok on some primitive world where they had nothing to do with it. So this particular killing is, objectively, good.

I can't. Not since reading Brian Jacques' Mossflower in the 5th grade.
Somehow knowing that a Badger did this in a children's book twenty years ago doesn't detract from the coolness factor.
