It's a handmade working Star Trek clock from Etsy seller YOUgNeek, and I have to admit that I kind of want one right now.

The clocks - called "We Need More Time Captain" and now being made to order, after the originals sold out - are made from recycled MicroMachine Trek toys:

This beautiful clear and chrome Sterling and Noble clock boasts 12 vintage classic Action Fleet Micro Machine starships, warships and other vessels. I never know what I will have on hand, some may be kinda rare and go for $15 each and up. They are hand finished in a black and silver pewter-like color.

Each Star Trek clock is YOU gNeek and one-of-a-kind. If you have some favorite ships or vehicles in mind, let me know so I can include them if I have them in stock. Also if you want the Star Trek logo in the middle, please let me know. I take logos I have on hand from packages and layer them in a thick resin type substance and glue it on to the middle.

You can preorder one for $109 here. [Etsy]

<![CDATA[Math To Build Another Solar System]]> Over the past four centuries, hundreds of particles have been orbiting each other in this pocket universe, leaving faint lines in their wakes.

These webbed orbits are from a series of computer-generated art pieces by Jared Tarbell. He explains them like this:

The Orbitals is a collection of particles operating on one simple rule: choose another particle in the system and orbit it with a fixed radius at a constant velocity . . . In this variation, a single root particle is instantiated in the center of the stage. All other particles introduced to the system fall into orbit at some level.

If you visit Tarbell's online gallery of these images, you can make your own by playing with the little applet he built to generate them.

A year after he designed this series of artworks, Tarbell co-founded online crafts market Etsy, where you can buy wonderful things straight from the crafters and artists who make them. Seems as if Tarbell likes to help computers create and distribute art.

Check out Tarbell's Orbitals gallery.

<![CDATA[Seeker Robot Leads You To Steampunk Awesome]]>

The must-have home accessory of this season has to be The Seeker Robot. This 3 1/2" tall droid will, according to its maker, "seek whatever it's current master commands ... object, information, person ... all other orders recinded!" If only it were more than an awesome (and affordable) sculpture from Etsy artist The Builder's Studio. More of his work under the jump.

Explaining his work, the Builder's Studio writes

In college the art form I spent the most time on was painting (visual art — I was an English major and am a writer and published author), but had an interest in jewelry since way back in high school (they even offered a small course in wax carving/lost wax method which I took)! I sculpt, design "items" and more.

In recent times, however, I have concentrated a large part of my efforts info makeing a line of science fiction and "geeky" items... a lot, but not all of it "retro tech." These are items that look the way we THOUGHT they would years ago. Think robots or ray guns from maybe the 1930's, flying saucers from the 50's and of course steampunk from the 1800's!

We've previously linked to his wedding cake decorations, but his complete Etsy store offers over 300 equally awesome items for sale, from rayguns to jewelry and even walking sticks.

<![CDATA[The Inspirational Powers of Battlestar Galactica, Revealed]]> While almost every character on the show (aside from poor Cally. Poor, poor Cally) seems to be wondering just who the frak Battlestar Galactica's final Cylon actually is, it only takes one quick look at crafty site Etsy to find out how to solve that particular mystery: Just look for the owner of the person with the notebook that says "I Am The Final Cylon" on the cover in big letters. More on that, and other BSG goodies, under the jump.

The Final Cylon notebook is, according to creator Paperphilia,"perfect for taking notes or plotting out the demise of the human race," allowing the modern Cylon the ability to keep using it no matter what mood he or she happens to be in. But that's not the only BSG-related goodie on the site.

bsgmandala.jpgFor example, why not hothouse your child to become a future savior of the human race with this beautiful Battlestar Galactica Mandala Mobile?

This mobile is inspired by the Eye of Jupiter Mandala featured in the Battlestar Galactica television series. A center circle of blue is surrounded by a ring of dark red. A ring of deep yellow completes the wheel. The mandala is 4.5"/12cm in diameter and hangs by a single nylon thread... It is not intended for use as a toy.
bsgshirt.jpgOr, if you don't have a child but want to celebrate the wonder that is Starbuck's Jesus syndrome, you could always have some mandala jewelery.

Then again, maybe you're the kind of person who'd prefer to wear their heart on their sleeve. We can't really help with that, but we can help you wear your fictional cursing on your chest.

bsggloves.jpgFor the ultimate somewhat-tangentally connected Etsy-tie-in to the show, however, it'd be hard to beat BSG-inspired long fingerless gloves in colonial blue:

Whether working for President Roslin or hailing from a desk in the real world, these are perfect to keep a chill off your hands & arms. They're elbow length (or longer, if you happen to be on the short side like me) and leave your fingers free to get all sorts of things done. Practical to a fault and quite nice looking. Both gloves are accented with vintage brass buttons I purchased on Etsy from UrbanRose (http://urbanrose.etsy.com). They were perfect to finish these off in a classic, understated way. So there's no reason to push paper while freezing, slip on your warmers and do it for all Colonials... or your boss.

So say we all.

<![CDATA[Sheep Help Achieve Nerd Hair Nirvana]]> We've all been there before: You're all ready to go in your flouncy white dress to the latest Star Wars cosplay party, but your Princess Leia outfit isn't complete without that distinctive headphones hairstyle. But you shaved your head the day before! What is a bald Leia-wannabe to do? Thankfully, craft site Etsy is here to help... as long as you have "2 skeins of Misti Alpaca Chunky, 100% baby Alpaca fiber yarn" handy.

For only $7.95, you too can knit yourself into a Carrie Fisher frame of mind, thanks to Etsy member Ansley Bleu. That's the price of a special knitting pattern for a "Leia wig hat," able to transform even the least coke-addled starlet amongst us into Debbie Reynolds' wild child princess from Alderaan.

Ansley, based in LA, has managed to get the best celebrity endorsement for her work - Not only has Carrie Fisher herself seen the hat, she's worn it onstage as part of a one-woman show about her life. It really doesn't get any better than that.
