@GreyHammer: Lucas used up all the "entire planets that are based on specific geographical regions" so it's hard to imagine someone else coming up with something new.
That being said, it was definitely a homage to Hoth, wampa and all. #startrek
This book had to be made to keep up the Star Trek book tradition. I remember when I was a kid I had the tech manual and the concordance and used them while watching the series every night on channel 39.
I still wish one day they would build the Dreadnought. [www.kitsune.addr.com]
@Gemini2: Sorry is this directed at the author of the post? Because if so, that's the kind of tired old shit that gets a young man's ass banned. #startrek
@Pope John Peeps II: No this was not directed at the author of the story! Just saying that they keep coming up with more and more every week about the DVD. It was directed towards the industry. So relax. io9 is one of my favorite sites ever. I would never say anything in that manner.
So forgive me if it seemed that way. Not the case.
@Gemini2: Cool, good to know. I didn't think it was directed at me, but thanks for explaining anyway. In any case "Someone is bored!" is always a safe statement on the internet. :) #startrek
Based on the strong suggestion of this site, I went to my local Borders yesterday, camped out with a couple of lattes (their seasonal drinks suck donkey), and knocked out the first two trades.
The initial storyline was damned good, and highly emotional. The second wasn't nearly as interesting, at least on a character-driven emotional level (there was imagination 'a plenty), but you could see where the groundwork was laid to get the intended storyline moving.
I'm a bit torn on the idea of dragging out the set-up in such a lengthy fashion. On one hand that second trade seemed to go nowhere, but on the other it established possibility that can take the story ANYWHERE.
Then I started in on the two most recent FABLES trades. I wonder if Willingham knew he was on to pure gold when he pushed that idea on DC? All the wonder of AKIKO and the drama of STRAY BULLETS, the two series I currently miss the most.... #lockekey
@thexpert: While your sarcasm is noted, the honest answer is "yes." After being burned on so many blind purchases by so many supposedly great comics and movies, I now always sample the wares before I drop coin. Inter-library loan is a great way to sample works, and you can find most trades available with only a small wait time. When/if the economy ever improves I might again be as impulsive with my money as I was in my youth, but it today's age, that money gets spent on things I want to OWN and re-read, and not just sample. #lockekey
Serious question: I was thinking on how we haven't seen a fully unmasked Visitor yet, and biologically what they actually look like, and...
...do female Visitors actually, you know, have "mammary glands" if they're not mammals? Or is it all part of the flesh-costume? In other words, its not real? #v
I like how Morena was in Firefly, and was some kind of Sex Goddess with a body curvy beyond belief, full juicy lips, and long, wild hair that bounced everywhere.
And everything since (with the exception of SG-1) she's done everything she can to look as bad as she possibly can. I appreciate necks as much as the next person, but that outfit isn't going to win any awards. Or fans. "Dude she's hot" no. No frat boy is going to say "Dude she's hot" to that woman. Not even drunk ones. #v

unlike when other actors talk about the company and lawyers, and how those groups control what they can say.
it's very respectful.
