It really confused me and a coworker when we were talking about this film because we each saw a different ending with out knowing there were different endings. Confusion quickly destroyed thanks to IMDB.
i have to disagree! even before i left the movie theater my mind was racing through a hundred different questions! where am i going to get lunch? how long was i asleep in there? why did i do what i did to myself... or did my girlfriend do it? what about the obnoxiously noisey people behind me - often heard by never seen? could they be headed to the same lunch spot as i? one part tex one part mex?
@ZaxxonQ.com: Yeah there are two different endings, there is the ending where Katie gets shot, and another ending which was the Steven Spielberg ending.
@justin0025: I did not see her get shot nor did I see her get turned into this beastie that they are going with. My ending was still different. I don't wanna spoil it.
@justin0025: There are multiple endings? Wow I guess I'm late to the party on this one. The ending I saw was the one in the first image in the gallery up there.
@aubreyf: The directors version has the girl kill the boy then the cops kill the girl. The Spielberg version has the girl kill the boy then the girl disappears.
@LittleDragon: Ah, I see. I thought it was a dig as Spielberg relating to it being a "happy" ending or something and it didn't make sense to me. I get it now!
Ugh. The idea that the demon has "bigger fish to fry" robs the story of all its good drama. Just because it is a demon doesn't mean it has grandiose machinations. Possessive demon with caveman mentality and antics latches on to human woman like a caveman would. Mine, mine, you no have her.
By making this demon into an Errol Flynn villain you have demonstrated to the world that you either: (a) can't let other people succeed without trying to participate yourself and/or (b) you missed the point entirely.
Either way, good luck Scott. I hope you don't fail nearly as hard as I think you will.
@Dr.Quatermass Sc.D: Purveyor of Truth, Disseminator of Lies:
"AVP 1 & 2 both sucked sucked sucked and they had no effect on the awesomeness that is the Alien franchise." - Yeah it did... you can pretty much rule out anything else in either series being made for some time now
"And look at Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. They didn't affect much more than their own reputation." - Wrong! Because of those two horrid movies, it took a lot of time and quite the effort to get WB to even contemplate the idea of another Batman movie.
Studios don't consider the fact that the movies they released were garbage. They just see that it tanked and conclude that no one is interested in the subject matter.
@karelj: Five years back, I would totally agree, but forums like these play an infinitely larger role in the development of movies these days. What we say here does have an effect, albeit small, and accordingly, companies gauge more than just the profits.
Hardly. I've wondered "what happens next" in movies where the monster "wins." After all, people have friends and family who aren't just going to let it slide. There are also these people with guns and badges who get a bit obsessed with unsolved deaths.
Oh god that picture is going to haunt my dreams again. I had a totally random dream the other night that my wife was possessed. Morbid curiousity dictates that I find out what happened to Katie even though it will scare me...I am such a vagina.
I got less of an apartheid takeaway from District 9, even though it's shot in South Africa, than I did a "weapons dealers are the scum of the earth" message. I can understand some kind of quarantine required for the aliens, and so didn't jump to the apartheid analogy. But all the really horrible things done in this movie were done in the name of money for arms dealing. Sadly I found this narrative totally believable.
The social structure of the aliens was something I got early on. This was handled very well! Some of the aliens are so coarse in their behavior and limited in their comprehension of English, while Christopher was very knowledgeable about the eviction notice legalese, for example. I also appreciated the care that was taken in making the "skin" tone of the different aliens vary from one to the other. Some of them were rust-colored while others were bluish.
If you couldn't tell, I adored this movie. I really hope Christopher comes back for Wikis in a sequel! (while exacting revenge for the aliens used for vivisection).

If he fails wouldn't that end with what was a rich in flavor film to a bland tasteless peace of crap?

And look at Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. They didn't affect much more than their own reputation.
If this project fails, it will go down alone. Correction, it will go down along with the staff that thought it up.
