Heh.They also never considered how 3D printers would affect the manufacturing industry. Prices go down far enough, and it looks like they might, why would anyone pay money for simple plastic goods anymore, when they can have it made in their own home at material cost only? I suspect that quite a few companies will be devastated by that if they don't phase out the newly non-scarce products.

I also expect there to be another RIAA type situation. "Our intellectual property is being threatened! Anyone can scan our product and distribute the dimensions online, allowing millions to print out exact duplicates! We want punitive damages!"

@Ghede: I wonder if corporations that would be threatened by 3D printers would even allow those things to be commercially viable in the first place. There'd be some mad crazy espionage if those devices allowed the everyday ordinary consumer to crank out cheap tables on the fly.

No, they say the cost-of-transportation problem will be solved by teleportation; there's a footnote about it.

@Moff: But the savings would be offset by the energy costs associated with operating the teleportation devices.

So, still no flying cars, then?

What about ape slaves to wash our dishes and make our beds? No?

@cletar: Will we have twiddled with genetic engineering enough to have apes that can wash our beds and make our dishes by that time?
