    @frederic: Outside of California (or in Sierra's case, Tibet), there are no "ordinary" young people who look like that. They are the very definition of "extraordinary."

    I have spent some time wondering about the names of the actives. We know there was a previous Echo, so they do recycle names. But - especially in the scene at the end of "Needs"- there seem to be more than 26 distinct dolls. What are the rest named? Do they go to numbers - is there a Niner? Or do some get two names - Bravo Charlie?

    @Dr Emilio Lizardo: They did mention that they fully expect him to keep working for a long, long time to come. Like I said in the post, they were pretty blatant about this being just one big excuse to get him to show up.

    I gotta go with Buffy on this one.


    She too is "programmed to kill" by virtue of having been born a Slayer.


    Plus, she's already been killed at least once, and it hasn't slowed her down much at all.

    @Auld_Lang_Ziety: Yea, but Buffy has much more choice in the matter. River IS programmed, it's part of who she is. if someone flips the switch, nothing comes out alive. Buffy is just really good at what she does.

    @Kishi: Yea, she was always a psychotic killer, she's just not working for them anymore. I was pissed off she wasn't dead. She had played her part, and falling onto that truck would've been a great final scene.

    I don't understand the whole kill Dollhouse before it started pessimism from people involved and Fox.


    The show is so completely awesome. It's a goddamned shame everyone talked down (and continues to talk down) it's prospects.


    I can't help wondering how many people don't want to get involved in watching it knowing there is high odds they'll be left hanging - I know I sure have friends that say this is why they aren't watching it. I'm guessing it's enough people that the show could have much better ratings. If people thought it was around for the long haul, I think it would be a hug ratings success.

    Dollhouse is awesome. I think Joss is suffering a little from hindsight. Sadly, FOX's actions have been pretty clear in the context of what they have done in the past and that is why he doesn't feel they will renew Dollhouse. Funny thing is, it is FOX's changes that put the kink in the show's start, not Joss' series concept. I say, put the blame entirely on FOX and, maybe to prove us wrong, they'll give Joss free reign on season 2. FOX's stance: Blame the show, not their own meddling.

    @Kevin Jones: Eh, as I said the other day, I think Whedon is mostly to blame this time, considering that he knew full well what FOX did to Firefly. I've been pleasantly surprised with Dollhouse to the point that it's my favorite current show (R.I.P. BSG), but I have no idea why he would ever agree to go along with FOX again, nor why FOX so callously put the show in a dead timeslot--a red flag that they had no interest in continuing the show before it even started showing.

    @TomSkylark: Exactly. Fool me once... so why did he expect that things would be different this time? And once they started mucking with it and put it on Fridays (whichever order that happened in), REALLY why did he think it?


    Also, River. Duh. She can kill you with her mind, and also with guns and swords and stuff. Look at how many baddies she took out at the end of "Serenity". Plus she can read minds while she does it.

    Joss wanted to do a show with Eliza. Eliza was tied to Fox for a two property talent contract. Joss's options were to wait until Eliza was released from her contract or do the show without her, a show which she was partially responsible for thinking up in the first place.

    @Plague and @ggodo: To be fair, I hadn't necessarily planned on doing a post about this, but I felt there were enough interesting tidbits about Dollhouse to make it worth sharing. But maybe I'm just way, way more interested in Golf and Hotel than other people. I think the fact that this was a random gathering of fanboys instead of something like a convention appearance may have skewed the questions towards the more recent, popular stuff like Dollhouse.


    Weirdly, Joss actually got asked about whether he had any ideas that would work better as a movie than a TV show, and he didn't even mention Cabin in the Woods when that would seem beyond obvious to talk about. Make of that what you will...
