Right-Wing Futurists Are Already Predicting the Liberal Dystopia |
11/05/08
Meanwhile, a whole 10 book apocalypse themed series could be penned about the Right Wing Dystopia. I've already got a synopsis, check it: "In 2035, in a divided world where the concept of God has been replaced by the latest currency, the Amero (this is real BTW, look it up) and the nations of the world are run by a Republican political singularity, a former teacher, now a contracted gun runner, struggles with her family to survive in the last Michigan suburb as the petrol, weapons and money fueled civil war raging across the mid-west threatens to spread northwards. When she is penalized by the Tax Collection League for tax delinquency, she, in a desperate act of survival, attempts to smuggle her family into Mexico--now a part of The United Socialist States of Canada. But when The National Guard--now a freelance mercenary force--catches her son at the border and discovers that his name is on the International Enemy Combatant Ledger, she is forced to fight her way across the hostile terrain of a militarized dog-eat-dog America to save her son from the horrors of an indefinite term in the World Penitentiary.
I believe that pwns the pedophile troop masters of the "Obama Regime".

You might want to try working harder at recognizing when someone's covering something versus advocating it. Big difference, that. :)

i mean if you're gay, that means you're also a child molester, right?

Obviously.

Obama is neither monster nor messiah, he's just a politician. I'm sure he'll do fine, and we'll still have problems.
I disagree with plenty of his positions, but so what? Other people get to have their say too, and I disagree with plenty of the current guy's positions, too.
I see no point to publishing this ridiculous crap, or the ridiculous crap from the other end of the political spectrum. It's about as science-fiction related as a photo of manure.
Now that the election's over, maybe you guys could degrade the site with politics a little less often?

Since science fiction has always been a vehicle of expressing messages (moral and political) I think the two go hand in hand. Plus, it's not like they post off topic stuff, it's related to sci-fi.

As far as Obamatopia is concerned. As a person who has only been really aware of elections from 2000 and beyond, I have to say, I've never felt anything quite like this before. I've never been proud to be an American, not really, until last night. I know that things won't be perfect, I get that, but damn, what a hell of a leap in the right direction.

The really ridiculous thing here is that Porn had been in Gas Station's since the 50's at least. (Remember all those nudie calendar pinups in the local Garage)?
Of course now that creates a "hostile environment". And remind me again - which side complains about THAT? ;)
11/05/08
Both, really.

Um, both sides have been against sexually explicit images in public for a while now. If anything, I considered appropriateness in a public space to be a republican value.
In all seriousness, it's not a bad thing. I think you're digging for arguments here.

This is why US elections become so rancorous. And it primarily the left that does it: "Whatever we say, it isn't hateful. Why? Because we say it, therefore it can't be hateful. And - whatever others say, it is necessarily hateful. Why? Because it is not what we say. So it must be hateful."
LOL
What is particularly funny is the blatant appeal, not to reason, but to emotion by such people.
'Irrationalists of the world, Emote!'

Well I don't define this as "hate speech" per se, I think that accusing people of defining opposing ideas as hate speech is really an oversimplification. This piece is a dramatic exaggeration of what they believe will happen in four years. It's silly and doesn't have much of a point (and it's not even very interesting and I normally loves me some dystopias)
And really, the reason why the right gets accused of being hateful is because a lot of hate groups are associated with the Republican Party. It's a weird thing of not all conservative are anti-homosexual but all anti-homosexuals are very likely voting conservative.
Also, I find it ironic that you accuse people of getting all "emotion" about this when the piece is mean to arouse an emotional response in conservatives who fear Obama.
11/05/08
Thanks for proving my point. "Not for X, so you are hateful. You belong to a hate group."
"I find it ironic that you accuse people of getting all "emotion" about this when the piece is mean to arouse an emotional response in conservatives who fear Obama."
The idiocy of the piece is obvious (and has been identified by many already - including myself). What is "ironic" is that it is that those who claim "hate" are being just as idiotic. They are being just as irrational as those they are complaining about. I'm simply calling them on it. Sorry if you don't like that.

I was referring to hate groups, dude. People who hate homosexuals. I firmly believe that religions who don't approve of homosexuality are welcome to do so (I don't agree with it, but it's perfectly within their right) However, my point still stands.
Take Prop 8 in CA for example, I'm a liberal person but I feel it's well within a church's right to oppose gay marriage. The state, however, is a different story. The reason I believe it's based on hate is because it's trying to infringe on rights of people that have little to no effect on them. There's an underlying sense of "if this is approved then my kids are gonna be taught this, an subsequently be gay." As a person who supports gay rights, the idea that people frown on gay marriage to the point of making it a law is hateful. Think about it in different terms, if a person said that they don't approve of whites and blacks being married and want to create a law to ban it, wouldn't that be hate speech? It's when things are based on personal, religious values that are meant to hurt a minority and oppose the American idea of equality for all does it turn into hate speech.
Also, you keep claiming that people calling this hate speech are being idiotic. Why? All you say is that it's because they disagree, but clearly it's more than that. You disagree with me, but I don't think it'd hate speech. And to repeat myself, I don't feel that this dystopia is hate speech either.
My point: I just think you may be oversimplifying "the problems with liberals."

Now they're whining because Teh Gays want to commercialize it by making it available at every 7-11 and gas station at a reasonable price?
Huh? They're against Capitalism?!
Jeezus, guys - pick a position. Any position. Seriously!

I found this post to be absolutely appropriate. Io9 did not even HINT that there might be anything to this political hyperbole, but apparently just mentioning it warrants howls of outrage from the caring, tolerant Left.

I'm worried his approval ratings will drop after a few months when all these people with such lofty expectations realize that butterflies do not fly out of his ass at press conferences.

Gays out in the open and legal? Say it ain't so!
Gays in the Boy Scouts? Umm... I thought the Boy Scouts led to homosexuality anyway.
This just shows how out of touch Focus on the Family really is. I often wondered how much Heinlein was writing out of hate, but not nearly as much as these whack-jobs.
