Phil Lord is an unsung genius. He wrote and directed almost all of the incredible Clone High cartoons. He has an incredible ear for humour, a great writing ability, and an amazing ability to pick great voice actors.

He also provided the voice of Dr. Scudworth, which if anyone has ever seen the show, is perhaps the single most undeniably, hysterically, absolutely funny characters and voices in the entire history of animation.

Seriously. Buy it, torrent it, look up Scudworth on Youtube. You won't ever be sorry.

Excellent film, if a little predictable at times. I especially liked the scenes reminiscent of Star Wars, Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Alien. Well, that and Mr. T was awesome!

This movie just went from "Maybe rent" to "Watch in the theater". Thank god it didn't reach "Reenact story at work" level. Nice review Meredith.

I tried to watch it today. But even when I put aside my desire to see a movie more in tone with the book and just judge the film by its own merits as a fun quirky kid's flick, I couldn't even make myself enjoy it. It was kind of funny in a sort of gradeschool puppet show kind of way, but I couldn't bring myself to laugh at the gags with any real sincerity. There are some amusing moments worth a good chuckle, but nothing worth a belly laugh over.

I admit though that I'm probably not being fair to the movie since I couldn't bring myself to watch even half of it. I'm just judging it based on what I saw before I walked out. Eventually I gave up and ended up leaving by the first cheeseburger shower (or the 5th "Totally awesome!!!" if you're counting) and instead went to watch District 9 and Acker's 9 for my money's worth since I paid the IMAX 3D price for Meatballs. Despite having seen it twice already, District 9 still ended up being the highlight of an otherwise frustrating day.

@Sortafast: How is that relevant? They're completely different movies so I have separate expectations for both. I can enjoy fun "kiddy" entertainment with as much relish as I do my bloody R rated sci-fi. I didn't just wander into the wrong auditorium by accident thinking it was Inglorious Basterds, I actually bought the ticket to see this movie to enjoy it for what it was, only to find out that what it was wasn't something I liked either.

@Daumier: Since you watched an almost universally liked and criticaly acclaimed kids' movie and didn't actually like it allow me to propose an alternate hypothesis to the "it sucks and only I can see it" hypothesis:

"You actually DON'T like kids movies".

Also, you're dead inside. I just threw that one in for fun.

Huh. Maybe I'll have to put aside the fact that I am absolutely, completely in the purist camp, and go see the movie anyway.

But I won't enjoy it, you hear me! I will grumble and moan and refuse to laugh at all.

Huh. The trailer makes it seem like this is an uninspired so-blah-they-had-to-unload-it-when-all-the-kids-are-back-in-school lump o'blah. Glad to see it wasn't as bad as I feared.

they had a trailer of the michael jackson movie attached to it . I think that`s all kinds of wrong .
