Mamoru Oshii `s Assualt girl looks badass ,but I`m a fan of his work , esspecially his animated stuff , Electric Girl looks pretty good as well . now if only I could see them .
Question: what's with Japanese people and feathered "angel" wings? After 20 years of watching Japanese media products I can state that they are obsessed with them.
I think that they should stop mocking Western culture, they are losing their identity as a people and, above all, they look ridiculous and many Japanese [specially the old and proud] agree with me in this.
I don't get this fashion because angels are judeo-christian mythological creatures and, as such, the Japanese's typical fenotypes don't allow them share any differential silent visual traits to the winged entities depicted in Western religious imagery.
Tom Cruise in Samurai was the Caucasian equivalent to this but he didn't wear the samurai hairdo because the art designer knew he couldn't carry it with honour and, above all, Western sex-appeal.
Being a Spaniard myself, I feel obliged to defend Cyclops against all odds :) I agree it looks like your run-of-the-mill future cop story, but you must also know it has been shot during 4 years on a literal shoe-string budget (the cops' uniforms are just skater gear sewn together! a friend allowed them to paint his basement green for the green-screen shootings!). Can't wait to see the complete 10 minute version, and what could they do with 'just a little' more cash.
Cyclops will be something that will really have to win me over. Im not that convinced. Assault Girls on the other hand looks like great fun. Its like Power Rangers on crack. Another really really good live action film thats been out for a while, that I cant recomend enough is Cashern. Its visually stunning and the story and action is top notch. Check out the trailer. Sorry its slightly low in quality, but its the best subtitled one I could find.....
Please do keep us posted on these. They all look reasonably awesome. Anti-Cyborg cops (at least that's what I think was going on in Cyclops), anime chicks with assault weaponry, and stylized animated violence in Electronic girl...
Dark Lurking you can keep (don't really need another survival-horror gorefest), but these others look pretty cool.
These look amazing especially Assault Girls, but Dark Lurking looks terrible if that scene is anything like the rest of the movie. I think you have a thing for some cheesy special effects Meredith.
What I like about all of these is that directors in other countries aren't completely ensnared by the lie of CGI. It seems like all of these use more practical effects and miniatures than CGI.
I don't know why anyone is surprised, everything in hollywood is a remake these days. They've remade Japanese/Korean horror so why not this one?
Heck, even "The Magic Roundabout" which was an animated cartoon from the UK (and was in english) got dubbed (and renamed "Doogal") just so it would sound American.
Its ridiculous.

I've been wondering about that myself for quite some time now. It's a good question.
