Of course, it was the end of a 3-week binge. I'd never watched the x-files, and about 6 months after the movie came out I got the DVD's from Amazon and watched from episode 1 all the way through. So I might have been a little bit off my rocker at that point. #xfiles

Instead of devoting resources to yet another X-FILES movie (not that I wasn't a devoted fan of the original series when Mulder and Scully were both in it), why don't we instead make a movie spin-off of THE MAN FROM UNCLE, and forbid anyone even remotely associated with the movie THE WILD WILD WEST from having anything to do with it? #xfiles

In my head, Mulder has been on the run this whole time, only popping in to see Scully every couple years when he needs to compare notes, get a gunshot wound fixed up, or have a quick snog; but they can't actually be together in any sense of the word because THE FATE OF HUMANITY IS AT STAKE.

Oh contrair mon ami.
The last one was pretty damn good, but it just wasn't what people were expecting, which was exactly what you said you wanted from a new sequel.
For me, it was never about the conspiracy, it was the characters. Seeing Mulder and Scully at a point in their lives where they're trying to dig themselves out of rock bottom was completely disheartening, but the movie was a damn fine thriller that touched on the important social themes that defined the characters.
Was it a two hour episode of show? Well, yeah, but that's not exactly a bad thing. The first movie was just an expensive 2 hour episode. Give me personal and emotionally involving any day.

Sure, it was "just another story," but after all those years without X-files I liked getting another story. The only thing I hated was that they killed the one person in the entire FBI who believed Mulder. Scully's skepticism is painfully silly after all she has been through. #xfiles

I thought the movie was so bad that it had to be part of a government conspiracy to keep people from being interested in government conspiracies.

@BlueBeard: Well, Amanda Peat and the child, who was so central to the final seasons of the show. If anything could turn people off, it was the outright depressing atmosphere that oozed in every frame. Dead kids. Pedophilia. It was about as anti-commercial as Hollywood films get. Seriously, how often were guns pulled and fired in that movie? Which is exactly what every other Hollywood thriller falls back on...
Was Scully still a skeptic in that film? I sort of took her as someone completely jaded, an extension of her "believer" role that she took on in the final seasons. I see it that she's seen it, believes, and doesn't want any part of it. Almost like she's in denial. #xfiles

The only show I know that balances humor and terror as consistently, and often surpasses the X-FILES, is SUPERNATURAL. #xfiles

I need to confess, Xzibit did annoy me, thankfully he was underused.
I can see how folks would find it boring, especially in today's realm of over-the-top spectacle. All the thrills were characters driven, and toned down, not eye-poppin' mega-goodness (which I love).
As for walking out of movies, I've only one a few: THE OMEGA CODE, MARTIAN'S GO HOME, FANTASIA (not by choice, my friends wanted to split - we were 11). I would have walked out on both LETHAL WEAPON 4 and BATMAN & ROBYN if I'd been the one driving... #xfiles

I'm of the mindset that the bigger you make a movie, the more the filmmakers loose site of what's important - the characters and story. I'm glad to see I'm not alone in this thinking that something a little depth is just what the doctor ordered, although, not at the height of the summer movie season... #xfiles

The original RED SHOES movie was pretty decent, and still holds up somewhat. I'm pretty sure Duchovny is still friends with Bridget Bacho, or however you spell her name. That's the only thing I can think of that would explain her exceptionally brief cameo in CALIFORNICATION. #xfiles

He totally put his career on "Caruso control" after the X-files: Connie and Carla? Evolution? Return to Me? I don't doubt he wants to return to the glory days, but I think he should carry on with something else. #xfiles

From what I remember, DD's career didn't go as he'd hoped when he left X-FILES, and he had a dry spell. RETURN TO ME, EVOLUTION, and couple other failed endeavors. When I thought his career was dead was the time he decided to do another X-FILES movie. It's the only role of his that resonated with audiences, and is probably why he wants to return again. #xfiles
