That's actually the way the TARDIS breaks down for shipping between sets and locations. David Tenant explained it in an interview on the Graham Norton show last year. #futurama

I'm slowly losing interest in FlashForward. We've begun this slow inexorable march towards a predetermined future. No matter how they fight it, it looks like Harold will die, Shakespeare in Love will start drinking again and be hunted by guys with laser sights, and Shakespeare in Love's wife will leave him for Autistic Kid's dad and there's not a damn thing they can do about it.

In fact, it's probably a sign to stop watching a show when I haven't learned anyone's name after 4 or 5 episodes. #futurama

@enderwiggin13: It isn't so much that the future appears inevitable but that all of the characters in the first two episodes were convinced that it was. The FBI was so convinced they put more effort into discovering this future than they did into investigating why everyone blacked out.

There's really only two attitudes on this show: 1) The future really sucks for me, I am a slave to pre-destination, or 2) The future is really awesome, I can just sit back and wait for it to happen, my worries are over!

There are seemingly no characters in the first two episodes that have the other two attitudes: 3) The future sucks I should do everything in my power to prevent it, or 4) The future is really awesome, I should do everything in my power to ensure that it happens. #futurama

Of course, the boobs at Canada City's Teletoon or the Comedy Network (don't know who will carry it) will fuck it up with Futurama. Their idea of promotion kind of baffle me.

@CodenameV: Evangelion sucks. The mecha/aliens plot is used quite a bit - maybe Evangelion was the first, I don't know, but there is a lot of sci-fi anime out there.

No love for tabletop role-playing games in either of these lists?

Shadowrun has riggers (a term that, I believe, was originally used with this meaning in Walter John Williams' Hard Wired) who plug into drones and vehicles either directly or remotely, giving them enhanced reaction time and finer control over the vehicle.

There are at least two transhumanist RPGs I know of that allow for player characters to copy their personalities into digital form: the out-of-print but not out-of-stock Transhuman Space from Steve Jackson Games and the Creative Commons Licensed (and therefore free in PDF; just Google "Eclipse Phase RPG free download" and poke around a little) Eclipse Phase from Catalyst Games.

@MrTim: It also has Deckers, who log directly into the internet, most well known for putting the brakes on any Shadowrun RPG EVER.

Also, io9 needs some tabletop RPG love, of the sci fi variety.
