If we're lucky we'll have zaibatsus, plural, as opposed to just Blue Sun.

With the failure of the banking system and Bernie Madoff, the Obama administration will definitely take a harder stand against any kind of collusion or fraud. That will likely spill over into tighter regulation of corporate structure.
It is also becoming easier to sue parent companies for the acts of their subsidiaries. Threat of suit is a big deterrent from companies becoming too intertwined.

Are you at the top? Well, then you don't get anything but a crappy job with no way to file a grievance against your employer, no consumer protection, outrageous healthcare costs, no protection against deceptive banking practices, no protection from these companies citing imminent domain and taking your land to build a factory, and no clean air or water because their own bought and sold politicians are only looking out for them.
"Free market" capitalism in its most pure unregulated form does not create wealth. It merely drives the wedge between have and have-not further and deeper.
And before anyone jumps on me, I'm certainly no communist, I'm just merely stating what things could be like if the rule of law is removed from the market. It's a said day when an individual free American citizen has less rights than a corporation.

Its also not only the top that tries to consolidate wealth. I assure you I am nowhere near the top but when I put widgets or cogs together I am not doing it to "create wealth". My goal, like the vast majority (at least when they go to a job) of the world is to "consolidate wealth".
I gots to get paid.
