The Coming Collapse Of Evangelical Christianity? |
03/11/09
The evangelical how we know already is dying. What is coming on is the Ultra, mega, hiper pentecostal groups. they use the FREE WILL that the bible give-us with all the catholic kind of mambo-jamboo( bless roses, saint grooves, ask and the GOD/SAINT just give you).
Another point is that Christians around glob are falling down in different way. In Europe the spirit ism like groups ( new age, scientology, cardescism, and all kind of necromancy/african things), become much more strong. North Americans much more, because is being invaded by A SPANISH CULTURE PSEUDO CATHOLIC that believe in anything ( if someone know a peanuts have a image that far away remmber some SAINT, they start to say HOOO MARIA) and miracles start to happens.
In south America the hiper, mega, ultra Pentecostal ism become more and more strong. at a point same the catholic church start to do the same ( who dont know, in Brazil, catholic church have a movement called "CANçÃO NOVA", that become each day more, and more strong inside ROMAN CHURCH). For north Americans or Europeans that never see that, think they are a Evangelic kind of creed ( but when start to ask money and all the idolatry just we see the difference). We say that the new PENTECOSTAL ISM become more and more catholic, and The Catholics become more and more EVANGELIC ( just the worst of each one they use to be equal of course.).
The same way in Brazil, we already cant call some Evangelic churches " EVANGELIC any more because the "GOD & COMPANY" they created. The catholic church in Brazil and north Tmerican NEW THINKS ( THAT EAT THE SAME GOD AND DRINK THE SAME BLOOD RITUAL?) will be the next CRASH in ROMA STRUCTURE. ( CRASH LIKE IN PAST, ANGLICANISM, ORTHODOX. WILL BE A BIG THING, AND THIS WILL HAPPENS SOON).
At END what still in both sides is the loose of the more deep thing the Bible give us. The Salvation. and the forgot of another basic thing. GOD do. He CREATE us to cult him. Because HE IS GOD. NOT BECAUSE HE GIVE MONEY doing me rich, or a kind of store where you pay and something happens ( iam speaking the new evangelicals and catholic church). Peoples in a way or another, inside herself know this is wrong. and start to search for new things, more spiritual or transcendental, that is exact what happens in Europe.
About the catholic church be more doctrinal. Its wrong. how catholic church think they will still use the " VERSION OF HISTORY" they have with internet? today anyone can search and learn the that crusades ALREADY HAPPENS and was not a mith how they speak. That CHURCH HELP nazy and not is video/photo cuts that someone do in a lie or that they never kill anyone or persuit anyone, taht this was PEOPLES IN NAME OF CHURCH and non THE CHURCH.
What this guy speak is true in a lot of ways, but i can be global, what is diying is the christianism. For a side is GOOD, because ROMA ( that do all Occident lose almost 1400 y of evolution) is dying in a fast way. maybe 2 or 3 generations before a complete crack down. but is sad, that other Christians are become more and more catholic in what they "SELL" to peoples. At the end My hope is internet become a point of balance. where the people can understand and search the true and challenge this ones about what they are doing. Just same way is happening today with ROMA Empire.

Re-format. Try again.

The former can only really thrive long-term in a country of subjugated, poor or uneducated people. America, despite all her self-important whining, doesn't actually have a minority group that's impoverished or brutalized enough to really form a lasting religion. The vast, angry hordes of the Middle East are a good example of the kind of population you'd need to support that.
And the latter can't thrive because american materialism is going extinct. With the new, realistic American economy, America's unconscious "Calvinist" tendencies to believe themselves elect will suddenly vanish, and people will be left with an enormous religious monolith that promises wealth and happiness (a la "Secret") but delivers nothing. And delivers no spiritual comfort at all. Some will turn to extreme evangelicalism of the first type to negate hardship and promise themselves a reward, but most will simply turn to secular Christianities, which are based on compassion and community and ultimately the notion of failure (as all reasonable Christianity is).

There is no "right type" of religion for America. We currently have a vast majority of people who feel no religion is the "best" religion or picking and choosing what they believe, if anything at all.
However, in order to believe in the bible it doesn't negate intellect or wealth. One of the main issues is that people are spending more and more time on "other things" and don't care to put anything spiritual in the forefront of their lives. But, even those that do, are sometimes delusional or don't even know why they are doing it.
03/11/09
Preoccupation with the things of this world make you spiritually blind. You can have things, but only if you aren't really attached to them. But nobody in American is. And there isn't a "right type" of religion in America, but there's a kind of religion that suits the times and the culture, and evangelicalism is probably on the way out.

Wait, what?
Look, I've seen zero evidence that the gap between what, for shorthand, is the rural and the urban is narrowing any time soon. In fact, it's reached a point where blending is producing enclaves, rather than mixtures.
So unless homosexuality, the movie industry, and Islam disappear tomorrow morning, there are still going to be people who feel threatened and need a reactionary release.

Hah-hah, megachurch Xtians have their own Gen Y hipster douchebag narcissist quotient. I really fail to see the difference between a Pepsi t-shirt and an "ironic" tee with "Repent" or "Jesus" made to look like a Pepsi logo.
Face it, Evangelical Christianity is nothing more than the Political Correctness of the Bush Era. In either ideology's case, at first they were sort of tolerated for being well-intentioned, then despised as they grew more vocal and strident, and finally ridiculed as hollow, vacuous, and arbitrary.
03/10/09
I just wanted to quote that. Hee hee. They're everywhere, be you secular or evangelical. It's an infestation.
03/10/09
I say that I am glad extremism is going away, as a Christian. Extremists really need to get it together and quit being dicks.
03/10/09
I mean... when did he change his mind on slavery, goat sacrifice, punishing homosexuals, (all in the Bible) and the like?
If he's fallible, why call him God?
Or, is he a fictional human construct that people change with the times to reflect their new beliefs?
03/10/09
I'm not really qualified to explain doctrine. For me, I figure some rules that may have helped society hold together in the past no longer have a place today. I don't think that a rule changing totally invalidates the idea of God. In its best form, religion is a tool for me. It helps me focus less on myself, and more on the world around me. It teaches me to be grateful, to be kind, to be humble. It teaches the power of love, the usefulness of discipline, and sometimes the sheer helplessness we have in things beyond our control.
I'm a very imperfect Christian, but I do like to think that being raised with those values made me a better person. I wouldn't mind evangelical churches declining a bit, as I think they are more extremist than necessary. But you aren't going to find me rooting for the irrelevance of religion.
03/10/09
If you carefully read what you just wrote, you'd notice that your idea of God is an idea of society and not religion.
Whatever. I'm not here to change people's minds, and this is what this is turning into. I don't want to spend an entire afternoon arguing against "Well I think God is a kitten. PROVE ME WRONG!" when I'm meeting up with some friends from out of town this afternoon. (Note: I'm not saying you think 'God' is a kitten).
Like I said elsewhere, everyone shapes religion to suit themselves, which should be a huge clue it's all one giant lie people tell themselves to get through their day. I'm fine with that. I just get upset at the absurd logic used sometimes that tries to get passed off as 'fact.'
03/10/09
Look, I'm not arguing that religion should be taught in schools, or that my way's the right way. I just think that it's unneccessarily harsh for people to condemn the whole concept as a lie to get through the day. I don't tell Atheists they're going to hell for not believing in God, and all I'm asking for is a little courtesy, and to not hear that I'm an uneducated bigot for not ruling out the concept of a deity.
03/10/09
That was well put. I wish there was more tolerance of people's beliefs, as opposed to the "you're a moron for believing in god" mentality.
03/11/09
So maybe before asking questions just designed to make yourself seem clever, you could actually read some of the Christian scripture that would give you the answer you want.
03/10/09
I've witnessed up close and personal three generations of nearly inbred Christian nuts coming of age in dirtwater towns in Oklahoma, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Georgia, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. There is no end to them.

The Evangelical flavor has more in common with the Taliban than with most other styles of Christianity.
It is not Christianity that is becoming irrelevant here. It is Extremism that is seeing its final days, one may pray.

Catholics in particular are in bigger trouble when you look at the numbers of people becoming priests and nuns. Its just not happening.
People don't want to give up birth control or pre-marital sex, they sure as hell aren't going into the seminary.
Society is moving on. It gets harder and harder to reconcile the morals sanctioned by a divine being when most well rounded people can muster better rules for living than yhwh. Slowly and slowly we leave little bits of our religion behind, because frankly, holding to them is socially embarrassing.
The general christian view toward homosexuals is starting to not be espoused by the next generation of Christians. they use word games to reconcile what the bible says about homosexuality, with what they think it REALLY says, which is gays are okay. And they can feel okay about being christian again since its no longer homophobic under their new interpretation.
I'm perfectly okay with this watering down of hardline bigotries through creative interpretation because pretty soon they'll just water themselves out of relevance.
03/10/09
I don't hear Christians arguing that it's their divine right to sell their daughters into slavery or that women should get their hands cut off for touching another man's genitals.
Christianity even loses much in translation. Satan is Hebrew for "the adversary." Originally it wasn't one person with horns and a pitchfork, but somehow it got interpreted that way over time.
The truth is, people believe what they are told and do no research for themselves. The new generation interpreting the Bible how they feel? Not a problem. The old generations have been doing that for thousands of years.
03/10/09
03/10/09
Christian's don't argue that it's their divine right to sell their daughters into slavery and stuff like that because they don't follow the old testament. They believe that Jesus washed away the old rules, and that they don't matter anymore.
Hence why they eat pork and whatnot.
03/10/09
03/10/09
The rules against gayness are in the same OT book as the rules against pork and mixed fabric. Either take the word of YHWH for the whole thing, or don't.
03/10/09
Well apparently I'm already ahead of the curve. But I digress.
This comes on the wake of a CNN article stating a decrease in Christianity overall but a steep increase in megachurches and their congregants. I think that we will begin to see a general dislike for these evangelicals. As good-hearted as they may claim to be, they've been the number 1 proponent for every discriminatory political movement. i.e. gay rights and abortion rights. And I think society is slowly beginning to realize that Christianity is the antithesis of progress.
03/10/09
You see abortion rights as discrimination against the woman, but Christians see abortion as discrimination against the unborn. I would say both have the same approach. What I don't understand is why evangelicals are the only ones tagged as discriminatory. Maybe that points to the true discrimination against Christians.
