yeah...maybe if you read the manual. if you've actually played the game at all though you'd know that there is literally no plot to the game itself. just whatever the makers tell you the story was supposed to be.

also, you realize this will never actually happen, right? a video game movie trilogy? the fact that the Resident Evil series even happened blows my mind. i think it had more to do with Zombies than the video game aspect. i don't get why people get excited for video game based movies when there has yet to be "a" good movie in that genre not to mention three of them.

@ultra_balexbot: i'm pretty sure it had more to do with hot chicks fighting than zombies or video games. if there's one thing you can count on a producer green lighting it's a hot girl with a gun.

it's hard to tell if he is so inept he actually belives a gears of war trillogy will in any way resemble the lord of the rings trillogy or if he's so poor a communicator that 'like lord of the rings' is his way of saying 'trillogy adapted from another medium.' my money is on 'some of both.'

I think this has possibility, but I really do hope they stick with the existing story line. Hell, its not like there is much that would really need to be changed. Its not like there are demons or nazi's that need to be written out to make it more palletable to audiences, its nothing but aliens.

Keep the story, find a good leading man, and have a field day.

I am not so sure they need to find a marque name for Marcus though. Give it to someone who is really hungry to make a name for themselves. Let this picture be someone's Conan, or First Blood.

the chances of these films a) being made b) remotely resembling the games is very low...

there will be:

- an altered (lame) backstory

- a sassy gal added to the cast (beyond Anya Stroud)

- a kid (I'll donate $100 CND to the io9 booze fund if this doesn't happen)

Suggest it to the ConceptArt.org folk. That sounds right up there alley.

All this is reminding me of a moment in Tad Williams Otherland series where they let a simulation of LOTR go on to long and the sides start to become technologically advanced.

@crashedpc: @Belabras: The otherland series was a pretty good read. Not quite hard scifi - more of a good, solid fantasy series in a scifi setting. I'm not sure what I think of the ending though.

@crashedpc: The wizards most definitely need to be wielders of the nuclear power. Makes sense with the whole tower concept also. Of course the orcses as a genetically bred warrior race makes perfect sense.

@Gann: I want to say it's a Macguffin after all this posturing we did, but since it obviously confers upon the user invisibility (as well as slowly drive the user mad), I think we need to think of the possibility of a skin grafted patch that secretes some sort of endocrine system based hormone that ... something something growth and mood. Help!

Plus I have a meeting in 10 minutes.

@crashedpc: Maybe a neural link into the fabric of space-time? Allows the user to directly manipulate reality with enough focus. The invisibility thing could just be a subconscious reaction to the new-found ability. All the other changes could be contributed to the corruption power brings.

On a related note, this is the geekiest conversation I have ever had.
