How Will Smith Will Save Hollywood

With the continued, somewhat inexplicable, success of Hancock, it seems that the only constant in Hollywood math is "(Will Smith) + (4th of July Weekend) x (Genre Movie) = $$$." Bearing that in mind, we thought that it's be kind of us to demonstrate to some stalled SF movie projects just to how to use the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (and, let's face it, wherever else he wants to be the Prince of, these days) to get their movies up and running again. Tokyopop Tries To Reinvent Itself With SF Licenses

While it may have fired 45% of its workforce and cut back the majority of its original English-language projects recently, manga publisher Tokyopop isn't dead. It's just moving into the world of licensing SF comics. Coming soon to accompany their Star Trek: The Manga series: Battlestar Galactica and Ghostbusters. More »

be kind rewind review

Be Kind, Rewind Is Slipstream Slapstick

Be Kind Rewind, Michel Gondry's new movie, is a thematic sequel to his best film, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind. In Eternal Sunshine, a mysterious brain-editing machine can erase your memories of a shitty relationship, leaving you free to reinvent yourself. In Be Kind Rewind, Jack Black gets magnetized and then erases a whole store full of videotapes, allowing him and Mos Def to reinvent those stories. The only difference is, Be Kind is a slapstick comedy. And it's about 10,000 times more sentimental. Spoilers await! More »

Ten Great New York Monsters (OK, One is from New Jersey)

New York is famous as a breeding ground for monsters. With the metropolis about to get ripped to shreds on Friday in giant monster flick Cloverfield, NY's love affair with deadly, inhuman beasts is on our minds. HP Lovecraft wrote back in the 1920s that the Red Hook neighborhood was built over a vast, subterranean chamber where demons worshiped ancient monsters; and in 1933, the first King Kong movie gave the world an iconic view of a giant gorilla battling planes on top of the then-ultra-modern Empire State Building. But there are some other New York monsters you might have forgotten. We've got ten to remember. More »

You Could Play Megaman's Robot Girlfriend Casting notices just went up for a fan-made movie about Megaman, the Japanese videogame character. Director Eddie Lebron (who's already made a Ghostbusters fan-movie) is willing to pay non-union actors to star in his Megaman epic. The storyline sounds pretty close to established lore: Dr. Light develops super-robots (including two friendly robots named Rock and Roll) but his colleague Dr. Wily steals some robots and tries to take over the world. So Rock volunteers to receive a "battle upgrade" and becomes Megaman. Fans seem desperate for a Hollywood Megaman movie, judging from the fan films already online and the fake Vin Diesel poster above. [Free Casting Call]

Ernie Hudson Wants 'Ghostbusters 3' To Call Ernie Hudson hopes the new Ghostbusters video game coming out next year means Ghostbusters 3 will be haunting theaters. The game features Hudson's voice, along with the voices of Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd, who wrote the game. The fact that Aykroyd was able to assemble all the original talent for this game may be a good sign for Ghostbusters 3 and 4, which already have Aykroyd-penned scripts. We say the best move would be to call it Ghostbusters 2, so we can rid our brains of the nasty slime that terrible sequel left behind.

They Still Ain't Afraid Of No Ghosts

With it being possibly the most eagerly awaited, yet arguably unexpected, sequel since the upcoming fourth Indiana Jones movie, news has leaked that work has started on Ghostbusters 3. But there's a catch: It's not actually going to be a movie.
