In reply to For Thanksgiving, Heroes Embraces Mutant Family Dysfunction
Oh, thank Annalee for this review, I was beginning to fear my sudden re-liking Heroes this week.

When I see it again, I'll pretend not to see the parts with Dirty Samuel and Hiro (whom I'm soon be hating quite properly) though.

The HRG family dinner was good stuff. "She's not a date" -- oh sure, Mr. I Buy Canned Yams on the other side of town. Muggles and girlfriend. Gay dog breeder "boyfriend" and his faint. Claire's lesbian roomie returning. Amusing family dynamics.

Mama P has raised denial to a new high. And apparently Sylar and Nathan are Immortals, b/c those special effects clearly show There Can Be Only One (running Nylar's body).

Well, maybe good fro Heroes, but still pretty lousy. Hiro has always been about sacrifice, (at least till the writers decided that nothing was more important to him than Charlie) but now he's willing to lie and sell out aguy to protect her?

Samuel's secret power is that he doesn't realize how strong his power is? You're telling me he never experimented or accidently in a moment of anger moved to much earth and learned this on his own?

Gretchen's been gone for what, 1 episode? Just more proof that the writers can't get rid of any characters.

Oh, and if you're looking for homosexuality in the show, look no further than doggie boy. I think he's just dating Claire's mom to get close to HRG.

@Dr Emilio Lizardo: sorry to point this out, but the list of characters that no longer appear on Heroes is pretty big. it's just that their disappearances are never explained or referenced. Maya, Monica, Micah, Molly, Meredith (and thats just the M's!), West, and pretty much all the characters from season 3. And I'm just talking about the ones who haven't died.

So if I was sitting at the carnie table, I would raise my hand and ask the following question:

"How can we have a murder mystery when Hiro can go back in time?? Hiro take a couple of us into the past and we can see who killed the dirt man brother!

Also please pass the stuffing, it's really good."

I thought the eps was boring and kinda stupid.

Claire is worried about her secret getting out for 3 season, but decides to freak out her mom's new BF at the table???? Also wouldn't their be more blood spraying? I bet Dexter called BS on that scene.

Also my biggest problem is that Hiro is taught by the dirt man that changing the past isn't a bad thing but then when he could save the dirt man's brother he doesn't??

@van_line: OMG This was the first time Hiro went back in time for this event. The truth is out. It was never a mystery to to anyone watching the show. I knew right away that Samuel killed his brother and it was kinda given away 3 episodes back.

As for the blood, "Blood" isn't always sprayed across the room like you see in lots of movies. Plus Claire heals almost instantly. She hasn't had a problem with who she is. It's not about keeping a secret, it's always been about leading a normal life.
As for the "Boyfriend" Clearly the man way GAY. Which I think is wonderful. Claire's mother has that whole Fag Hag vibe. Just sayin!

We all have our opinions...this is just mine.

    Peace

I must say Bravo to the writers of "Thanksgiving" Wow, was that a fun hour of joy. Been a longtime since this show really stuck with me. Dont get me wrong. I love this show except for those two horrible and I mean horrible season. But to pull off such and excellent episode....boggles me. This show could be so much more.

NBC/Universal....whatever. The team that put this episode together...Genius.
You need to stop and look around...these people put on a show.

Mother Petrelli, forcing them to sit down and have a T-day family dinner was very scary and insane. This woman is bonkers and I love the Love/Hate relationship.
HRG's little get together with the Fam. Very nice. Love love loved that whole scene.

And finally, Don't mess with Hiro. So many have talked crap about his whole storyline. This is one of the reasons I love this show so much. Takes a lickin and keeps on.... what he does...

    Keep up the good work.

    Happy Thanksgiving io9ers.

    Peace and be Thankful.

Agreed, this was one of the best Heroes ep this season. I especially loved Claire demonstrating to the annoying dog guy that her youthful awkwardness is nowhere near the same as being a teenaged dog breeder.

That first clip reminded me of a family christmas dinner about 15yrs ago.

Ours ended with one sister frizbie-ing her dinner plate (turkey, stuffing, etc) across the room at the other sister.

    Ah, memories.

Heroes. BRILLIANT strategy. Produce a half-dozen muddled, crappy episodes that frustrate and piss off your audience. Then put together a half-decent episode in time for one of the biggest holidays of the year.

i'm surprised heroes hasn't done a storyline where Claire hooks up with a guy(or girl) that likes torture sex, and keeps hurting her intentionally for his own gratification.
on a side note, this was a decent episode, the sylar lightening thing was extremely cheesy, if they wanted a wow effect they should have done something like a burst of energy as sylar is emerging.

People seem to love to hate Heroes. For a series that most commenters on io9 seem to hate, it gets an awful lot of comments (to say they hate it).

Come back when it's in its 9th season like Smallville which should have ended after Jonathan Kent's death.
