Protesters have existed for centuries, whether it be out in the public on street corners or in secrecy on the underground railroad. Civil War, Secret Invasion? Those are stories about a war and its ripples through the Marvel universe. Protesters and war go hand in hand. If you fancy yourself adult enough to cling to your political ideals but can't stomach what some big ol' meanie poop face has to say about them, go back to Family Guy where you can get a cheap laugh from McFarlane's blatant liberal "humor."

Furthermore, active discussion regarding issues like politics includes both response (i.e., the comic), and counter-response. If someone criticizes your political beliefs, it is perfectly appropriate to respond to that criticism.

I don't see how the Greatest Generation could be so great, though, if the next thing they did after winning world war II was raise a bunch of hippies. Doesn't that count as a black mark?

"I can. But that's because I'm not a penniless hippie."

Look, for the past few years we've had mass hippy rallies all over the country. They're an issue and there is absolutely nothing wrong with bringing them up. And I'm sorry but hippies to have a reputation on being a bit naive, I live with one and believe me it easier to have a rational argument with a three year old.

That people protest things is certainly an issue; the question is not whether you treat with it, but how you treat with it.
Of course, Marvel's in a tight spot as it stands, as it's hard to have vigilantism without the attendant implication of fascism; how could you make a world in which vigilantism was both right and necessary and peaceful political activists weren't hopelessly naive?

@Gothamite88: I think you mean an "item on the liberal agenda," here. I guess it is, though I think the "never let anyone see anyone else smoking, ever" people are kind of their own thing--so far as I know, getting cigarettes out of comic books was never high on the list of priorities.

And the ban of smoking from comics is pretty much an extension of the ban on it in movies and tv

Maybe he just doesn't think he's making art?
That sounds about right.
