Please kill off the majority of the case within the next two seasons. How great would that be? Maybe only keeping HRG and Peter's mother?
Think final season of Angel. No One was around from Season1 except Angel. It took the final season to get rid of the last original Buffyverse character... and now the show is legendary.
Have some balls and start cutting the cast. Hollywood is full of pretty people, just borrow some people from the CW to round out the beauty for mass market appeal.
Just end it. Seriously. Season one, though flawed, told a contained story, with a beginning, middle and end. The main characters' arcs all, for the most part, reached their conclusions. There was nowhere else to go, and yet they kept on going, and going, and going. Hiro had another destiny to fulfill, and then another, and another. Sylar returned, was retconned, un-retconned and retconned again. Nathan found redemption again, then betrayed everyone, then found redemption again. Noah found two or three more ways to shift his loyaties while remaining true to his daughter. Claire kept on pouting.
The show is atrocious and should not be saved.
Kill the cheerleader, kill the show, find some other pilot to greenlight and be done with it.
Is there anyway to get a for/against type of coverage for this show. It just seems like everyone is trying to kill it. Honestly, the show was good overall, yeah it had it's bumps but if you're looking for flaws, you can find it in anything, including everyone's beloved BSG that everyone seems to be into on this site. When I saw the headline, I was in agreement, like yeah, old-school, in that the pace wasn't what we saw in the frantic volume 3 but more to volume 1 and 2, in which the story flowed nicely asking you why things are happening in the story and eventually getting the payoff in future episodes. The show seems to have lost that quality to some degree but give it a chance and try not to kill it. Give it some time to breath.
Ladies and gentlemen, I make this promise to you right now- if "Rebel" turns out to be Angela Petrelli, this show will be so dead to me that neither Bryan Fuller nor Ned the Piemaker could bring it back.
The hate you folks garner for this show is nothing less than...meh
It would seem to me that if this show causes you so much frustration and confusion (which I don't see how that's possible seeing as my 5 year old can keep up with the show) then quit watching it and let the rest of us who still enjoy the show do just that: enjoy it.
I've said it multiple times and I guess I'll say it again, you all have to let go of your hatred and enjoy life...It's always OMG not Scarlet Johansson in Iron Man 2, or Orlando Bloom is going to set science fiction back to the stone ages because of his new sci-fi film, or Eliza Dushku is the worst actress since the creation of the crop protecting scarecrow...settle down!
I'm a pubic hair away from ditching this site because of it's unbalanced and, obviously, unobjective approach to presenting the information.
@packysmith: While I agree with you to some degree (I actually liked this episode and thought it was a huge step forward), the writers are entitled to their opinions and few will miss you if you decide not to read what they say here. If you don't like how things are presented, why do you come? Obviously there is still something keeping you here reading. Just let go, let them have their opinions, and feel free to voice yours in the comments. then we can all revel in ur geekdom together without anyone getting sore.
That'd be a great comment if it wasn't for the fact that:
A) people criticizing the show are doing such because they like the show's premise and are waiting for it to turn around...if it ever does
B) People actually give thought out criticisms of the show not pointless insults.
C) This is not CNN its a sci-fi fan related blog, ie they're supposed to be biased.
D) your "five year old" is actually Tim Kring
E) If you hate the blog so much then why do you keep reading? Sounds like those effing Heroes haterz that watch the show and then bitch about it the next day...oh wait a minute!
P.S. Don't let the internet door hit your ass on the way out.
@PobreGizmo: If you don't like how things are presented, why do you come?
Couldn't you just as easily say to 99% of the commenters on this post "If you don't like how things are presented, why do you watch the show and leave comment upon comment week after week about how much the show sucks?"
@packysmith: I know what you mean. I still want to read the site for some of the information that they post though. When I see clearly inflammatory articles, I refuse to click them. Trolling via blog post should not be encouraged, but there's too many worthy posts here for me to leave the site.
@Keen314: In all seriousness, there's some stuff on this blog I don't agree with. No big, I just don't agree. For those occasions I usually post reasons why I disagree, not "this blog is stupid cause they hate my favorite show" bull.
The comment I made was not directed at the fine folks who leave comments on this site, and I don't much care for the personally damaging things that were said about me, and specifically my child. Leave the kid out of this.
I started frequenting this site because it was recommended to me by the Middleblog and I really enjoyed coming. Personally I enjoy this site most when it has the quirky stories about Cancer sniffing Cats and the BSG Viper Car. I love the morning spoilers. I would say on the whole this site is peachy with a side of keen.
My big issue is the odd this is awesome/this is the worst thing ever dichotmy that exists on this site. It's like most of the writers here at pretty cool and a couple are like the comic shop guy from the Simpsons..."worst idea ever!" It strikes me as peculiar that one article gives me 63 reasons to give Heroes another chance, and every article since seems to say, Heroes boo-hiss.
Heroes is far from favorite show, and I follow a rather large variety of Science Fiction, from comics to movies to TV. However, I do feel, as I've stated before that I feel that some of the commentary is a bit much, or just plain unfair. Case in point, why raz Heroes for using text messaging now and not back in the beginning of season 1? It wasn't a necessary plot device for season 1. It's being used now to keep a potential friendly character (or potential villian) in contact with Claire without revealing their identity. Sure it's been done in other shows before, but not on Heroes, and so thusly it works fine.
I just wish the commentary didn't seem so unbalanced so frequently, it tends to ruin an otherwise enjoyable experience.
Sorry if I ruffled any feathers, this article was just the straw that broke the Packy's back.
"Leave the kid out of this." You brought Mr. Kring up, not me.
"It strikes me as peculiar that one article gives me 63 reasons to give Heroes another chance, and every article since seems to say, Heroes boo-hiss."
You're missing the point of this site and these articles. The 'reasons to keep watching Heroes' shows us that the writers of this blog still hold hope that this show will get better. Reviewing it every week and seeing the show get worse and worse and still having people (like me) continue to watch shows how much we actually care about this show.
"However, I do feel, as I've stated before that I feel that some of the commentary is a bit much, or just plain unfair."
Again, this is a sci-fi blog run by fans of different shows/comics/books, etc. They don't have to be fair (although I think they are).
"I just wish the commentary didn't seem so unbalanced so frequently, it tends to ruin an otherwise enjoyable experience."
Then skip the Heroes review. It's way more effective of easing your stress than bitching about people bitching (which is ironic as hell considering that you're doing the very same thing you accuse the writers of)
@Evlsushi: Even the reviewers on CNN get to be biased. It's a perk of writing opinion pieces, as opposed to reporting news.
I love this site. But I also feel that sometimes the writers come off as so disdainful of people who like topic x they would never deign to speak to someone who liked it. As a result, I don't post comments very often, because I disagree a lot. CNN never does that.
If others feel this way, my worry is that the site as a whole has stopped fostering conversation, which to me is sort of the point.
I don't think there's anything wrong with disagreeing with the writers here, but I do have issue with people who complain about other people complaining. It's silly and unproductive. Liking the direction Heroes is going in is perfectly fine, but don't get mad at people for disagreeing with an opinion (btw, not talking about you personally). If you like Heroes, explain why. If this blog is all about good discussion, then have at it and don't insult a (growing) number of people who don't like the direction of a show. And for the record, the writers here disagree amongst themselves about an array of topics. Take Dollhouse, for example, some loved it and some hated it. There's a ton of topics I stay away from because I disagree with the writers here and I have nothing to add in the way of productive comments (Brave and the Bold, much?). But, they all have a wide range of tastes. It's silly to lump them all into the "excessive nerds hate everything" category.
I'm going to watch next episode because it seems Mr. Bennett centric ( I think everyone still calls him HRG because the writers are stuck in the character motives from first season) I don't think they'll actually move his story forward and I could care less if he's good or evil, (just because the writers can't decide doesn't make it moral ambiguity) What I do want to know is if they will finally claim that he has a power. He knows to much, he can think his way out of any situation ( first season mentally tells parkman how to escape from the company) and his once partner the invisible man said he was protecting someone with powers I always thought he meant HRG. I'm waiting for the writers to ruin a good chance to pull a decent story together. By the time Fuller gets to write anything the show will be complete shreds.
I tell you what I loved; the way Sylar ended up in his daddy's house, was ambushed, dragged the dude to the next-door neighbor's house, commented that it was overly coincidental that a powered kid lived next door to his papa, the kid admitted that he knew where Sylar's dad really was, (which obviously wasn't in his house,) and then they set off on a flippin' road trip.
A.) If Sylar Snr. is as whacked out as we've been led to believe, why the hell would he tell a next-door juvenile delinquent where he was heading? B.) If Sylar Jr. only let Microwave-Hand-Kid live because he might know where Papa is, why the hell could he just not have sliced his head open and gotten the info the same way he gets all of his other info?
This show continues to dazzle me with its stupidity.
"why the hell could he just not have sliced his head open and gotten the info the same way he gets all of his other info?"
Because he can only eat brains to get powers--oh wait, he knows how things work...waitaminute, he absorbs them like Peter? But hold on, Peter has to touch people and he can only have one power at a time.
Okay, see, Adrian Pasdar? Is fantastic at being evil. Go watch Profit if you don't believe me. So, I don't want to see him deal with some underling of his who's manipulating things- I wanted Nathan to walk into the room with Nikki at the end, say "Good job, just what we needed," and unlock her.
Also, someone from Homeland Security getting all uppity about rights of citizens? Oh, to laugh at such lame, unbelievable dialogue.
I'm actually quite fond of Adrian Pasdar, but I think that the progression of his character is silly. I love conflicted characters, especially ones related to the "hero" but his evil change came outta nowhere.
WTF was with that "zomg HAWT blond with bewbs in a comic book store!!!1!!" bullshit? Are we back to jocks vs nerds, or something? What a lazy attempt at a joke.
And why am I watching Mrs. Bennet get pissed at an obviously lying HRG for the zillionth time? And why is Sylar looking for his father anyway? Cause he wants to know where he came from? Lame. Why are Hiro and Ando in India? Lamer.
And how the fuck did "the fiancee" knock out and kidnap Ando in the time that it took Hiro to walk 8 ft to the kitchen?
And again, why the is Nathan hunting down heroes anyway? Hunting Heroes? WE SAW THIS ALREADY.
I'm holding out for Fuller, but dammit I don't think he can save this.
@Evlsushi: All spot-on questions, as was the review.
My question is: when Claire goes to Mom and tells her Dad is lying to her again and is being evil again why is Claire surprised when Mom kicks him out? She went to Mom looking for an ally, what did she expect from that discussion? What was her goal if not to get HRG in trouble? I don't have a treenage daughter and it's been decades since I could be interested in the workings of the teenage female mind without being accused of a crime, but is this typical behavior?
That was actually a question I missed in my rant. As a former tenneaged girl, it makes no sense. She was very aware that her parents' relationship was on thin ice, yet she's surprised when her mom kicks HRG out? wtf.
I would love to watch a show about HRG hunting down people with abilities. I was expecting that to be a part of "Villains" and was terribly disappointed when the focus drifted away from it.
Thank goodness all the ideas are for the male Heroes (and technically only one of *them* is a hero)! Can you imagine if one of the GIRLS had a spin-off? The cooties alone would guarantee its demise.
And it is just so George Lucasy of Kring to think that *Sylar* is one of the characters who should continue. One of Kring's and his show's biggest demerits was that Sylar came back after season one. Wow, the villain didn't *really* die? How original.
