I'd been out of buying single issues of comics for a while, and when I jumped back into it about a year ago (thanks in no small part to Locke & Key), someone recommended Incognito to me. After that, I snapped up all of the Criminal trades. Brubaker's on a short list of my favorite authors, along with Azzarello, Waid, Vaughn and a few others. Hell, he and Azzarello have almost single-handedly revived the crime comic genre.
As much as I love Criminal, I hope he returns to the world he's created here. Does anyone know if the Jess Nevins articles are reprinted in the Incognito trade? I'm missing one of them, because I had to buy the two issue compilation to get issue two.
@disatess: Gah, I was totally projecting there. I've been mixing up Image Comics with First Comics since about 1993. First and Eclipse were about 10,000 times the publisher Image ever was.
Huzzawha??? Powers is now going to be released by Marvel!?!!!
The same Powers that is 10% clitoris jokes, 30% monkeys having sex, and 75% dropping F-bombs? (I know that equals 115%, but Bendis has a lot of F-bombs to drop)
Does Marvel know what they're getting into, or is this going to be the first comic book composed entirely of asterisks?
@bluehinter: GOD FUCKING DAMMIT. Is this why Powers vol 13 is nowhere to be seen? They're *relaunching* it? WHAT THE FUCK! Powers is one of the only good ongoing series left, and now they're Disney'd?
@tande04: Though it was technically under the Icon imprint. Owned by Marvel, but in the same way that Disney owns Miramax, and uses it to put out films that might not be appropriate for it's kid-friendly image.
I guess the regular Marvel label has become quite a bit darker as of late with the various Marvel Zombies and Thunderbolts titles, but I'd hate to think that my favorite 100% creator owned comic series was suddenly forced to clean up it's act because of the watchful eye of some mouse.
@tande04: Though if they plan on making Powers part of the regular Marvel canon, that also technically means Warren Ellis is part of the Marvel universe... A concept which makes me feel incredibly uneasy.
The first 50 issues of Shade are awesome. Besides Peter Milligan's psychedelic writing, you can totally watch Chris Bachalo grow as an artist. It's fan-f'ing-tastic. And Sean Phillips ("Sleeper," "Criminal") does the covers later on in the series!
I've never bought single issues of comics before; I might wait until a compilation comes out. Something about this series implies that there may be cliffhangers, and I hate cliffhangers. They make me want to burn buildings down.
By the way, the Army of Darkness Christmas Special was just as good as I'd hoped for (the guys at my local comic shop saved one for me on Christmas Eve - it was like some kind of Christmas miracle!). I am also instituting a new Christmas Eve tradition - zombies! Zombie movies, comics, books, games...from henceforth, Dec. 24 will be all about the undead.
@EttoreSpano: I see your point, we already refer to Easter as Zombie Jesus Day. But I don't really "celebrate" Easter, other than the customary devouring of Cadbury Creme Eggs

I meant to add it to my saver months ago, but couldn't remember the name, then couldn't remember where I'd read about it beforehand.
