Frankenstein Girl's Wrist-Cutting Rally Is Deeply Disturbing]]> Giving the mangled women of Tokyo Gore Police a run for their buckets of blood, Vampire Girl and Frankenstein Girl battle, with blades and kicks — but first, the rally. The faint of heart: proceed no further. It's probably NSFW.

Vampire Girl Vs. Frankenstein Girl is from Naoyuki Tomomatsu and Yoshihiro Nishimura (who are infamous for the venus fly trap ladies from Tokyo Gore Police.) The movie's title is pretty self-explanatory, although it seems like it'll be hard to tell what's happening in the completely mental little film.

The world premiere will be at the New York Asian Film Festival on Friday June 26th. I'll be there, with hands placed firmly over my eyes for the buckets-of-blood moments. Won't you?

<![CDATA[Alien Life Invades Through Transmorphing BlackBerry? Wake Me When It's A Transformer iPhone]]> If Transformers' "shadow movie" Transmorphers has a Blackberry that morphs into a spiderbot, will the second Tranformers have a killer Decepticon iPhone baddie? Plus, check out the latest batch of Asylum ripoffs, shorts, and Rec 2 clips.

Transmorphers: Fall of Man
The official synopsis is:

In this present day prequel, the robot invaders attack the Earth, forcing a small band of humans to seek refuge below the surface of the planet.

Or they could just say, "We made this to coattail on the hype from Michael Bay... What?" Either way, this painfully hilarious film with Bruce Boxleitner and the guy who was the angel in Charmed (No, I will not look that up because you didn't know what his name was, anyways) will be out on DVD on June 30.

Transmorphers Trailer:

Transmorpher EVIL BLACKBERRY OF DEATH:

Vespers
This little short (pointed out by Quiet Earth) was one of the Sci-Fi London festival movies that we'd been hearing good things about. It's a short about an alternate history where the world ends by plague in the Victorian era. Check out the full short below:

Bristol, England 1880. A mysterious plague has wiped out humanity, the last man alive walks alone looking for survivors. All around him is death and destruction. As he's about to give up all hope, a miracle occurs.

Vespers

Rec 2
Three Rec 2 clips are out. These new clips confirm that the movie will be in the same location, with the first person POV angle, and recorded from the military feed that the presumed soldiers are transmitting from in the quarantined zone. So: More of the same, but in a good way I guess... if you want more Rec.

<![CDATA[Moon Clip Recruits You To Join Sam Rockwell On The Space Mine]]> Critically adored space-isolation film Moon has released a new clip that explains all the intricate details as to why the future world needs you to become a Lunar Industries space miner.

Duncan Jones, who both directed and wrote this captivating feature, has only two stars in the entire movie. Sam Bell, played by Sam Rockwell, is a Lunar Industries worker, rounding out the end of his three years of space mining isolation. The other star is an boxy robot titled GERTY, voiced by Kevin Spacey, who expresses his robotic feeling through a 2D smiley face on his tiny screen/face. The main character, Bell, is forced to come face-to-face with his own inner demons and personal mortality when he uncovers some nefarious deeds happening on the lonesome Moon.

Moon will be in theaters on June 12 — I strongly encourage you to see it.

<![CDATA[Can Overly Indie Adam Balance His Voyager Space Probe Obsession With His Love Life?]]> We've overlooked this aggressively indie romantic comedy Adam, until now. Hugh Dancy plays the space-obsessed Adam, who's afflicted with asperger syndrome and trying to find love with a girl who is not Zooey Deschanel.

The feature, directed by Max Mayer, barely straddles the fence between "sweet little film" and "tired indie fodder being peddled with new actors." I'm hopeful for something new although playing the cutesy "When You Love Somebody" by the Fruit Bats isn't helping its case for being something outside of the old indie box.

That said, I'm enjoying his little obsession with the Voyager Space Probe, and here's hoping there are a lot more space illustrations and constellation charts in the feature. We're rooting for Adam, what can I say? I'm a sucker for a boy who will show up at my door in a space suit. Oh and I think Voyager II is an A-OK topic for lunchtime chatter.

<![CDATA[First Moaning Lesbian Vampire Clip, Space Whips And A Better Look At Baton]]> This week, watch as a poor little lady is feasted upon by a pack of lesbian vampires and take a look at the gorgeous trailer to Stolen Planet where astronauts fight with lightsaber whips.

First up is a round up of old timey type posters featuring the ladies from the British comedy Lesbian Vampire Killers. Total Film went ahead and shot all these ladies in bathing suits but from the looks of the flicks, new clips and featurette, the girls will be wearing a lot less than that in the movie. The plot is pretty simple: a couple of clowns stumble upon a lesbian vampire breeding ground and have to fight their way out.

Stolen Planet
This little independent space film by Nick Kougioulis has really knocked us over on our backsides. The flick follows a lonely technician on his way to patch up a communication tower on another planet but, when he gets there, everything has gone to hell as it so often does in space. What we're most excited about is the look of the film; everything has an almost-surreal feel, from the ominous green-eyed robot and delicate jet pack to the light-whips. Check out the trailer and Scifi Scoop's interview with the man who birthed this trippy baby (where he reveals that he shot this whole thing on a Sony Camcorder, amazing).

Twitch has pointed out that the official website for anime film Baton is up and running the trailer. The director is Ryuhei Kitamura (known for Godzilla: Final Wars) and takes place on a future Earth, which includes adorable and intelligent robots.

<![CDATA[A Sneak Peek At Your Future Love Implants And Human-Robot Hybrids]]> Buffy's feisty Emma Caulfield nervously waits for her implanted true love chip to start up in TiMER, while one man predicts the fusion between man and machine, in this years Tribeca Film Festival.

The line of for this year's Tribeca Film Festival has been announced, and it includes two films we're all excited about.

The first one is TiMER, starring Emma Caulfield (best known as the demon Anya) as Oona. In Oona's world, everyone wears an implant on their wrist that counts down until the day the wearer finds true love. But Oona's is blank, which means her soul mate doesn't have his/her device implanted. So instead of waiting for the timer to kick in, Oona falls for the young supermarket clerk John Patrick (Gossip Girl) whose timer is set for four months from now. The flick is both directed and penned by Jac Schaeffer.

The non-fiction film the Transcendent Man follows futurist and inventor Ray Kurzweil, as he speculates on the future of artificial intelligence. Directed by Barry Ptolemy, the film follows Kurzweil as he discusses what he believes is the next phase of evolution, while diving into some tech-heavy examples. When will the robot-human merging happen? According to Kurzweil, in about 30 years. So you make the call: is he a crackpot, or a visionary?

<![CDATA[Vampire Lincoln Loves The Ladies, A Filthy Kaiju And Inhabited Island 2]]> Vampire Lincoln is exactly the way I like my men: a bit of a perv, accompanied by an evil horde of Buffy rip-offs. Enjoy the short, one hairy Kaiju and my Russian boyfriend's back.

The Transient
Student film The Transient follows a hobo hero who fights zombies and VAMPIRE LINCOLN, who is kind of a dick to his Spike vampire rip off, but we love him anyway. Here's the official synopsis:

Filmed in Champaign-Urbana Illinois, THE TRANSIENT is the story of a homeless vigilante and his case worker, Steve, as they try to thwart Vampire Abraham Lincoln and his gang of 1980's punks from sucking the blood of four-score and seven virgins.

The entire movie is here, but I'm going to use this grab of Lincoln teasing the tied up ladies as a screen saver.

Rat Scratch Fever
We've shown you stills from Rat Scratch Fever, so now check out the next trailer for these hairy beasties that want to take over the world... starting with your apartment.

Chohatsu Daikaiju Gehara:

The wonderful horror fiends at Bloody Disgusting have pointed our attention at a fuzzy wuzzy Godzilla-like creature called the Gehera. It's a short film about a hairy monster (who sadly is in dire need of some Rogaine for his noggin) that unleashes chaos on a city.

Inhabited Island 2
And finally it's no secret that I'm in LOVE with the lost in space Russian astronaut, those eyes my god those eyes. Well the first Inhabited Island flick, based off the novel from the Strugatsky brothers, came and went without too much hub-bub (and we're still awaiting the international release). But the teaser trailer for the second film (with the supposed all out war scenario between the curly-headed hero and the evil government) is out. Take a peek, not enough Maxim Kammerer for my taste, but god, willing there will be more.

<![CDATA[Murderous Pig People Hate Lil' Romeo]]> Run, adorable baby rapper from the 1990s! Your dad (Master P)'s Pig People want to eat you and steal your stylishly accessorized hoodies! Plus, there's a trailer for the cute little love story Nightfur.

Lil' Romeo and Master P's horror movie The Pig People has two trailers full of scared teens and strange looking, erm... um... well... Pig People. Check it out - They have little ears, a snout, and love devouring human flesh and wearing outfits, just like Wilbur.

Nightfur:

Okay, so this is what I think happens in this movie: There is a romance between a voyeuristic astrophysicist and a short-haired girl. Anyone else know anything about this? I'm crazy confused. For some reason it reminds me a bit of I Heart Huckabees, with the cloudy plot.

Humains
Here is the full official trailer for the French movie Humains. It's your standard, "many people go into a cave, and only a few come out" story. But these monsters aren't pigs or crawlers, but the missing link. Let's be honest; there is NO WAY these monkey people could top the gray gorillas from Congo, unless they can talk... Can they talk, Jacques-Olivier Molon? And if they do, do they sound like Nell, but with a Swedish accent, since it's set in the Alps? Thanks for finding this trailer Quiet Earth!

La Horde:

We're very sorry we missed this little behind-the-scenes look at French zombie film La Horde, but it gives a close look into how they will be dealing with zombie crowd control (here's a hint it involves death and guns):

<![CDATA[Vengeful Babies, Zombie Romeo And Juliet And The Horde Stills]]> It's a good day to be an unholy creature. Be it evil born-again babies or a Shakespeare classic set to the tune of a zombie jamboree, this week is all about the undead.

Grace
Paul Solet's film Grace premiered in Sundance this year (or right now, I should say), and here's a look at the teaser trailer. Grace is about a mother whose baby dies in the womb, but the mom decides to carry it to term nonetheless. After the delivery, the baby comes back to life - but now has an insatiable thirst for blood. I've said if before and I'll say it again, children = evil.

Romeo & Juliet vs. The Living Dead:
What if Romeo and the rest of the Montagues clan was made up of the undead? And poor dear Juliet fell desperately in love with the zombie boy himself? Well that story would probably go a little something like this.

The Horde
Hooray! There are finally stills from Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher’s zombie French film La Horde (The Horde) which blends cops, robbers, zombies and skyscrapers. The zombies are absolutely gorgeous (I'm especially enjoying the teeth)... there is nothing like a well crafted corpse. I cannot wait to see this horror on the big screen.

<![CDATA[Video From Inside Sam Rockwell's Moon Base]]> Duncan Jones' Moon starring Sam Rockwell as a space miner, has finally released some footage. And it looks just as beautiful and lonely as we predicted.

The movie focuses in on a guy putting in his solo work time on a desolate moon, waiting for his time to be up so he can return home and rake in the cash. But Rockwell's unfortunate hero finds out his company may have other plans for the rest of his career. It's dark, lonely and yet pretty beautiful at the same time. Moon will be premiering on Friday, January 23rd at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Go see it.

<![CDATA[A One-Eyed Monster Fights The T-1000 In Alien Trespass Trailer]]> We've been excited for the campy Alien Trespass ever since we found out Dan Lauria, R.W. Goodwin (from X-Files) and Terminator's T-1000 were all working on this alien adventure. Check out the trailer.

The film is set in 1957 and shows what happens to the residents of a small California town, when an alien space ship crashes. First comes the monster, then the alien bounty hunter (Urp) and then the cops. It looks like one of those sweet, "If we all put our minds together we can beat this thing" films. <![CDATA[Duncan Jones' Moon Details Start To Emerge]]> The dark but beautiful space-isolation movie Moon, starring Sam Rockwell, is finally starting to explain why our astro-miner starts losing his mind.

Moon will screen at Sundance this year and I couldn't be more excited to learn more about what David Bowie's son Duncan Jones (aka Zowie Bowie) thinks about space madness. I mean, if anyone would know, it's him. Take that kind of pedigree and match it with the incredible acting range packed into Sam Rockwell, and add the gorgeous look of Moon that we've only seen glimpses of and you have my dedicated attention. I've been super hyped about this film since I found out Kevin Spacey was going to be the robot voice in it.

It's a complicated story line and thank goodness they finally released more plot details on imdb:

Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is nearing the end of his contract with Lunar. He's been a faithful employee for 3 long years. His home has been Sarang, a moon base where he has spent his days alone, mining Helium 3. The precious gas holds the key to reversing the Earth's energy crisis.

Isolated, determined and steadfast, Sam has followed the rulebook obediently and his time on the moon has been enlightening, but uneventful. The solitude has given him time to reflect on the mistakes of his past and work on his raging temper. He does his job mechanically, and spends most of his available time dreaming of his imminent return to Earth, to his wife, young daughter and an early retirement.

But 2 weeks shy of his departure from Sarang, Sam starts seeing things, hearing things and feeling strange. And when a routine extraction goes horribly wrong, he discovers that Lunar have their own plans for replacing him and the new recruit is eerily familiar.

Before he can return to Earth, Sam has to confront himself and the discovery that the life he has created, may not be his own. It's more than his contract that is set to expire.

Please give me a Sam-Rockwell-fighting-Sam-Rockwell moment — at least that's what I think they're getting at here. I cannot wait for this movie. And for those of you headed to Sundance, this is a must-see.

I predict that Dead Snow (Død Snø) will sweep over Sundance like an unholy snow storm. If the rest of the fight scenes are like this small clip, then Dead Snow is sure to succeed. Dead Snow takes place during a snowy holiday for a bunch of medical students. Their mountain top debauchery unleashes a clan of undead Nazis, who formerly occupied this winter wonderland. The rest is blood and gore. Please, please release this movie in the U.S. right now, I can wait no longer.

<![CDATA[Dead Snow's Nazi Zombie Clips Will Rip Out Your Pigtails]]> Let the Nazi zombie attacks begin! The first clips from Norwegian film Dead Snow (Dod Sno) have finally surfaced from Sundance. So far this flick is delivering all the horror goods: sex, zombies and Nazis.

Dead Snow follows a group of students on a snow trip. Everything is going smoothly until a hiker shows up at their cabin door telling them stories about how this snowy mountain side was a occupied by the Nazis in World War II. The townspeople eventually revolted against their horrible oppressors and drove Cololnel Herzog (above) and his minions into the high mountains. Supposedly they froze to death. But many years later, when the youngins show up with their sexin' and drinkin' ,it brings the remaining Nazis back to life. Seriously, that has to be one hell of some serious partying these kids were up to.

Here are two clips from the movie.

<![CDATA[Gorgeous Stills Glamorize Soul-Stealing Machines And Dead Astronaut Clones]]> Sundance has released a batch of stunning pictures of a shiny-and-beautiful soul extracting device, plus other beautiful shots from Sundance films Cold Souls and The Clone Returns Home. Galleries for both movies are below.

If character actor-extraordinaire Paul Giamatti playing himself in Cold Souls didn't convince you to check out this film, these pictures certainly will. This incredibly interesting indie film features Giamatti struggling with a crisis and seeking solace in a New York soul extraction facility, where he's encouraged to lay down the burden of his soul. These pictures are stunning and I can not wait to hear more about the obvious buzz this flick will generate over at Sundance.

Meanwhile, a haunting still showing a clone standing over the body of its original astronaut body is from The Clone Returns Home, a new Japanese movie whose trailer we posted a while back. The story starts with the death of an astronaut, which leads to the activation of his clone. But faulty memory programming startles the clone and his memories immediately revert back to childhood, when the original's brother died. The clone panics and escapes on a journey back to his childhood home (or at least the original astronaut's home).

<![CDATA[Paul Giamatti Wants To Steal Your Soul, Crush An Astronaut At Sundance]]> The Sundance festival released its competition lineup today, and it includes two science fiction heavy hitters. One features a soul-stealing inventor (Paul Giamatti) and the other is a Japanese flick about cloning a lost astronaut. Let's not forget, this was the festival that made people stand up and shout about Sleep Dealer and Timecrimes just last year, so I'm equally excited to see what the future of Sundance holds for these two.

The Clone Returns to the Homeland or (Kuron wa kokyo wo mezasu) is a Japanese film about an astronaut who dies but is brought back as a clone. Variety called it a, "bewitchingly intense low-budgeter" that looks better than it should thanks to smart cinematography. A grieving widow is shocked when the government replaces her deceased husband with a memory-implanted clone. Unfortunately, the clone can't get over a tragic memory from the original astronaut's life, where he blames himself for the accidental drowning of his twin brother. After being returned by the wife for being faulty, the clone escapes and journeys out, searching for the answers to his troubled memories.

The second film, titled Cold Souls has Paul Giamatti famous actor dealing with an internal crisis who stumbles upon a soul stealing workshop in New York City. It is written and directed by Sophie Barthes and also stars Emily Watson and Lauren Ambrose. I'm absolutely dying for more information about this diabolical little film.

The press release doesn't mention space convicts movie Stingray Sam, allegedly because it's appearing in a non-competitive section.

Besides these movies, Sundance will be holding a New Frontier exhibition which will house all sorts of movies, installations and other forms of art that have been influenced by "evolving media landscapes." More details on that soon I hope!

<![CDATA[Nacho Vigalondo on Timecrimes, and How To Land A Car On A UFO]]> Cult genre savior and Sundance darling Nacho Vigalondo took time out to talk to us about his brilliant time travel movie, Timecrimes. There's a lot of buzz around this film and its time-looping main character Hector. We've got a deeper look at the movie, coming out next year in select theaters, with an exclusive clip here. Read on for an interview with Vigalondo, who breaks down his traveling hero and chats about his latest project Ramp, about one man's dream to jump his car onto a UFO.

Why did you want to make a movie about time travel?

I'm a devoted science fiction fan. I'm really into that kind of stuff from novels to films. Into the genre of science fiction this sort of genre, time travel it was one of the most challenging genres you can work. Because you can not repeat the same thing that has been done already you're forced to be original. And at the same time you have to work on scary stuff that is funny at the same time. This for me is the quest that is making this kind of film.

What kind of science fiction inspired you to write this type of film?

For example my inspiration from this film came from the books of Philip K Dick and other writers that took it to the edge. But as far as movies the movie I have on my laptop all the time is Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock. Most of his films they have situations that are both pretty dark but also pretty silly. The Birds is a movie that can be a pretty dark horror film but at the same time it is a comedy because it's about birds attacking people. But if you're looking for closer examples to this type of film I must say that I was in love with Twelve Monkeys when it first came out. I love that kind of structure and I love that kind of film and I was impressed with how it was such a depressing tale but the whole thing was filled with jokes.

A lot of your previous work is very funny, is that necessary in your films?

I like to work with comedy but not from the script. If you read the Timecrimes script there aren't any jokes in the script. But I love to shoot things as if they were a comedy. If I can use the camera or the elements to find the comedy element in a situation, that's something I can not avoid. I love to work with comedy but from the film making not from the script.

Well in your opinion what was the best off the cuff moments in Timecrimes then?

One of the funniest moments is when the character Hector falls onto his knees. And the second guy falls on his knees again, and when I was making the movie I could not help but find the ridiculous element in it.

Was it difficult to take Hector down that dark path?

I knew this wasn't going to be a great movie in terms of money or budget or in terms of special effects. I knew the special effect would be the script itself that was great. So I worked on it very many times it went through many different drafts. The character of Hector was pretty difficult to work with in the script. It was also pretty difficult to work with the actor because he's an average person and at the same time he's a psycho killer and at the same time he is something else. I think his work is brilliant because he managed to play different roles but at the same time he's playing the same role.

You really beat the hell out of Hector, do you have a lot of fun doing that as well?

Oh yes of course, if you don't have a lot of fun making films then you should not make films.

Did you enjoy watching Hector commit crimes and become what he is in the end of the movie?

I love it because when you are making a story (this is difficult to explain even in Spanish [Laughs]) when you are playing with a good versus evil idea in a story but in an obtuse way...I love the fact that a character that the character can be the good guy and the bad guy at the same time. I love it when you're dealing with that stuff. Instead of dealing with the traditional story where you have the good character and the bad character. I love to play with ambiguity and this kind of weakened psychology.

Do you think that Hector is representative of any person, like that is inside of all of us?

That's a good question because he is an average person but he is hiding something terrible. I think that a character with contradictions and ambiguity is a more realistic character plain good or plain bad. I'm afraid to say that Hector is a good representation of an average person. But at the same time I believe in complicated characters more than plain characters.

This is such a time loopy story, did you have difficulty writing this script?

I made a lot of drafts with the scripts. I made 12 or 13 different drafts of the script trying to put them all together. But the shooting was also difficult. You have to be very careful what you're showing and at the same time you have to be very careful as to what you're hiding.

I read that Tom Cruises' United Artists purchased the rights to Timecrimes, have you heard anything about the remake? Are you worried about Hollywood getting involved with the project and changing everything?

The people involved with the remake of the script are awesome. Timothy J. Sexton the writer from Children Of Men, one of my favorite films last year. I feel very honored, this is my first feature, this is my first experience in feature film making. I feel so amazed that these people want to do a remake. This will really help me with my career in the United States so I can not help but thank these people.

How is work on the remake coming can you give us an update?

I can tell you that I had the remake script in my hands, but I didn't read it. I can't even tell you the number of pages. I had it in my hands but I didn't open it yet.

We're all really excited for your new UFO and car jumping movie Ramp, how is that going?

I'm just writing the third draft right now and once I finish it I'm going to show it to the world, so let's cross our fingers and lets see what happens. But right now it's not a project that has been looked at by anyone yet, it's a project I'm writing but I have to finish it in less than a month.

Seriously the idea for this movie could be one of the best ideas I've heard in a long time, can you tell our readers what it's about?

It's about a giant ramp it's about a guy who is going to use the ramp with a car and he's going to jump off the ramp and land on top of a UFO. He's going to make contact. Think of the classic UFO shape it's ready for us to fall onto it.

Oh yeah what kind of car are you going to launch?

It has to be a very light car, it's a little car, if you use a Hummer you will destroy the UFO.

What is your fascination with UFOs?

Well not only in The Ramp but UFOs have appeared in many of my scripts I'm not interested in UFO-ology in in the real UFO or real close encounters. But I'm interested in UFOs as a pop culture icon.

So do we get to see little green men?

That is a question I'm not allowed to answer.

I heard you were looking to work with zombies next?

I made my time travel story and now I want to make my zombie movies my superhero story and my ghost movie. I want to be close to the horror to the scifi and to the thriller.

The release date for Timecrimes is December 12.

<![CDATA[The Movie That Killed George W. Bush]]> This Election Day marks the symbolic end of the Bush administration, and some thought it would never come. That's why two years ago, a team of filmmakers decided to end Bush’s term prematurely with Death of a President. The film has courted controversy for its depiction of Bush’s assassination, but what’s important is what comes afterward in this weird twist on near-future scifi.

Death of a President is shot as faux documentary, set six years after October 19, 2007, the day George W. Bush was assassinated. Through interviews with talking heads, Secret Service agents, and those involved in the subsequent investigation, the film gradually unravels the mystery of who shot the president. We learn that an Assyrian man with possible ties to al-Qaeda was arrested, but it soon becomes clear that another man may be responsible, and now-President Cheney has been politicizing Bush’s death to advance his own agenda.

After its premiere at the 2006 Toronto Film Festival, the film aired in Finland and on More 4 in the UK. However, a boycott by major chains nearly killed its US release, and the Japanese government attempted to ban it outright.

<![CDATA[Can Fake Drug-Induced Superpowers Cure Depression?]]> Michael Rapaport thinks he can fly, even when he’s landed face first on the floor. But at least he has a sunnier outlook on life. In new indie flick Special, Rapaport plays Les Franken, a meter maid whose unremarkable life gets a much-needed dose of excitement when he enrolls in a trial for an experimental antidepressant. A dark comedy about pharmaceuticals, Special may be the perfect antidote to Hollywood's superhero mania.

The drug Les takes soon has him feeling groovy, but it’s not the increase serotonin levels. It makes him think he’s gained superpowers, even in the face of overwhelming evidence that he hasn't.

In his mind, Les begins developing powers of levitation, mind reading, and walking through walls. And, like so many comic book fans, Les decides that these new powers morally obligate him to don a parka and fight crime. His superhero antics quickly come to the attention of the drug company, who, fearing unwanted publicity, send their agents to keep him in check. Of course, Les' drug-addled brain interprets these "Suits" as his new nemeses, bent on using him to create an army of evil supermen.

Writer-directors Hal Halberman and Jeremy Passmore began showing Special on the festival circuit in 2006, and it will be opening in limited theaters on November 21.
