I still like the Infinity Towers accident in Dubai. They were building next to the water. Someone knocked a hole in the wall between the building pit and the water.

That crane operator must have been pissed.

Giant cranes seem to be involved in industrial accidents during construction damn near 50% of the time.

You'd think if you can make a huge heavy building ( that didn't collapse ), you'd be able to build a crane that could hold up as well.

@dOk: It's also a matter of scale. The accidents involving cranes are a small percentage of the accidents on a construction site, but when a crane is involved it means you are moving something very large with a structure that itself is very large and therefore the accident is newsworthy. I'm just glad nobody was squished.

@Gann: also, there is a lot of debate on the proper maintenance and inspection standards of cranes.

@acrobaticrabbit: My point is that there is very little on a construction site that is properly maintained and inspected, it just doesn't make the news when it fails.
