Will Ghostbusters 3 Ever Actually Happen?

Original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman is rumored to be getting forced out of his own franchise, in favor of a younger director. Too bad his contract won't let Columbia make a new Ghostbusters without his say-so. More »

Freaking amazing video!

Researchers filled this abandoned ant colony with concrete, let it sit for a month, and then excavated around it to reveal a massive ant colony. The size and intricacy of the colony is almost hard to wrap your mind around-- it stretches over 4,000 miles, and in its construction, the ant colony moved 40 tons of soil. The unveiling of the ant colony begins at the 3:00 mark.
Size isn't the only remarkable aspect of ant architecture. The end of the video features a colony of ants living in an acorn, just going to show how intricate their system is, no matter the size.

For One Tiny Instant, Physicists May Have Broken a Law of Nature
[www.physorg.com]

In a nutshell, there is some evidence that the strong nuclear force may also break the conservation of Parity.

Parity was shown not to be a symmetry of the weak nuclear force back in 1956. Now there seems to be evidence that the strong nuclear force also violates that symmetry.

If that turns out to be true, it's a result of huge importance.

I've been plowing my way through all 7 seasons of Star Trek:TNG and I have just come to the realization (physically and mentally) that the human body needs more that 4 hours of sleep in a day. :(

I getting too old for these marathon favorite series watching binges.

But, I can't stop doing it and I think there needs to be a place for group therapy on this subject.

@Im_your_Huckleberry:

Not too long ago, I watched all 7 seasons of Voyager all over again, skipping a few episodes here and there (the stupid ones).

I concur. Some of us are too old for this kind of marathon.

@Im_your_Huckleberry: I feel ya. I have SG-1 hangover. Again. Only moreso.

Does it seem like they made it so that you are doomed to have a two-parter at the end of the night? It's like 6:30am, you're ready to collapse, and then... "TO BE CONTINUED..."

Argh!

The Nostradamus Effect is on the History Channel.

Since I don't believe in the biblical apocalypse I don't think this is a sign of the end of times, but I will say it's a pretty good indicator of the state of our society.

In last night's Flashforward:

"God puts something good in your life everyday"

"Coincidences are god at work."

God this, god that, god, god, god, and more god in sci-fi...

When is this going to end?

I think I need therapy, some kind of exorcism, actually. I need to have religion exorcised from everything and everyone surrounding my life.

Incidentally, I've come up with a new name for sci-fi, more reflective of its lack of science and overbearing presence of religious themes: sigh-fi.

@Roklimber: There does seem to be a total lack of real science-y science fiction lately, isn't there? Especially in the "serious" stuff (at least god hasn't managed to sneak into Chuck yet).

Denmark isn't that religious-y though, is it?

@RandomFrequentFlierDent:

If god infects Chuck, I'll stop watching anything and everything.

"Denmark isn't that religious-y though, is it?"

Scandinavian countries, in general, are not very religious at all. Between 60% and 80% of Swedish citizens are atheists, depending on which stats you believe.

Interestingly enough, despite that and despite the very liberal take on sex and drugs, Scandinavian citizens are some of the most productive, crime-free, and happy in the world. Take that, religious fanatics!

In DK - and I'm not sure if this is true of other Scandinavian countries as well - most people pay a "church-tax" (you have to explicitly opt out, if you don't want to pay that), which is not so much an indication of religious support, but a means to pay for certain services, like being allowed to get married in a cathedral. Or so I'm told.

A more serious issue, in my opinion, is the increasing number of muslims moving to European countries in general, and DK (and the Netherlands) in particular.

I'm not opposed to people of any faith moving into any country but, here in DK, there is a great deal of pressure from muslim-faith citizens to change the danish laws to accommodate their own laws, and that I am opposed to. In my view, if you move to a country by your own choice, then you must abide by their rules and not try to change them to accommodate yours.

I'm sure you remember the case of the danish cartoonist who drew a cartoon of Mohammed some 5 years ago. If you don't, here's a good recap of what happened and how that has changed his life:

A few weeks ago, after 5 years, the newspaper finally caved in and apologized to the muslim community for having published the cartoons in the first place. Never mind that Danish embassies in 3 countries were bombed and never mind that the cartoonist has lived through hell ever since, including a recent threat to his life by a man with an axe.
