    Am I the only person who thinks Abrams looks like an insufferable douchebag in this pic?

    This and his high-and-mighty commentary on the Trek Blu-Ray are not giving me a good opinion of the guy. He looks like the type who truly believes his own press. (See also: Ed Norton)

    How about Buckaroo Banzai?

    I don't know if that has been thrown in the re-imagining pile yet, but it could work.

    @se7a7n7: No.

    No.

    NO-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O.

    Abrams is not allowed anywhere NEAR Buckaroo. He can steal Perfect Tommy's jacket if he wants to, but he is NOT allowed to crap all over the fandom, plzthxbai. The last thing this world needs is a "dark, gritty re-imagining" of TAOBB. Ugh!!

    Hell, I would even welcome Michael bay to do it. Roland Emmerich, Uwe Boll, Miss Piggy, ANYONE besides JJ. Just...NO.

    NOES. I refuses.

    The same guy who wrote X-Men 3 wrote Sherlock Holmes? Aw, I was looking forward to that until now.

    Also, that outfit JJ is wearing in the photo is EPIC. Will Chris Nolan please cast him as the Riddler?

    I'd be happy if there was never another Star trek movie. Abrams, who I usually like by the way, destroyed an already dying franchise. Let it rest in eace already

    I was one of the people that was completely sucked into the "Cloverfield" ARG. over 6 months of checking the forums every single day. After the I saw the movie during a midnight screening I came to the conclusion that Abrams is grossly overhyped. Having said that I'll be watching the last season of "Lost" . . . and am waiting for a Cloverfield sequel. so yeah, essentially I watch them make the lemonade, i see them use crappy ingredients, I buy it and drink it, hate it and buy some more. *sigh*

    I wish he would do "Slaughterhouse Five."

    JJ, if you read this, I will give you ELEVEN dollars--plus! that jar of change over there, if you will do "Slaughterhouse Five." Oh, wait, that's not a ten. I will give you SIX dollars, plus, of course, the jar of change. Sorry, that's all I've got on me right now, but you shouldn't do it for the money--you should do it because it's the kind of thing you should do. If a jar of change and some crumpled bills would sweeten the pot, well, that's on the table.

    @cletar: Guillermo del Toro is already slated to direct a Slaughterhouse-5 adaptation, and with his fluid filming style, I'd choose him over the JJ any day.

    I mean, ye gods, take one look at the vertical pans in Pan's Labyrinth and how each scene flows flawlessly into another and tell me you can't just see Billy Pilgim opening his 1968 bathroom door and stepping into a POW camp in WWII?

    @cletar: Oh, I'd love that.

    It plays to all of his strengths: he's wickedly talented with metaphors and analogies, he handles tongue-in-cheek humor well, and I'm flushed by the mere thought of what a del Toro alien would look like.

    Actually, that's my main reason for excitement for his SH5, the Tralfamadorians.

    A del Toro animatronic Tralfy is a reason to wake up in the morning.

    His imdb page lists about a dozen potential things.

    [www.imdb.com]

    "Untitled earthquake project" sounds like something the studio would consider a "tentpole."

    Weren't Abrams and Lindenof going to adapt Stephen King's Dark Tower series?

    That probably wouldn't be a "tentpole" film either but it'd sure be nice to see it get off the ground...

    I hope they don't make it too serious. I think the Abrams route is better. OTOH, this is material that is not very well known outside of the UK (I had barely heard of it), so maybe a BSG approach would work.

    The cool thing about Trek was that it balanced the seriousness with some fun.

    Well, U.F.O. wasn't intended to be cheesy... That's mostly just a result of the attitudes of the time, and our perspective from the moderately distant future.

    A serious remake interests me a lot more than a comedy spoof.
