Haha - Kudo's to whoever said Teri Hatcher is an alien - I think its of the praying mantis persuasion myself.
I believe Marc Cherry has said he has a story arc for the series for about half-dozen seasons. Hopefully he'll be more central to this particular season's story, rather than a permanent fixture for the couple of seasons the show might have left.
Not that I'm aching for Barrowman to depart, but I would be totally revved for a Torchwood full of new Action Gwen, Lois, and a reincarnated Ianto. They'd be just fine without him, I think.
Whenever you have a character who's seen just about everywhere and knows just about everything (kof kof Doctor Who, Jack kof kof) it's easy to "deus ex machina" the plot into the ground. Some felt the end of Season 3 had that feeling to it; Jack pulled a rabbit out of his hat as it were.
I'm wondering if Torchwood would end up being harder to write and perhaps a better show by going forward without Capt Jack.
They'd still have quite a bit of their cool tech but would have to rebuild the place. And they'd hire Lois, of course.
(If this is a dup, apologies. Been having a bit of trouble with io9 and Lifehacker today.)
Why would an excellent actor want to be on a show as horrible and mindless as Desperate Housewives. My 4th graders can write better than those writers.
@kherbert: DH is a top ten show, which means Barrowman can earn way, way more than what he earns in the UK and it will also get his beautiful face in front of Hollywood producers. We might end up getting the first openly gay leading man/action hero star if he does join DH. If that means he can't do Torchwood that's fine although I'd prefer it if he could somehow do both and I don't see why that should be a problem as DH doesn't film year round. Granted, it'll mean a longer wait for series 4 but they can give us a Torchwood special one time episode to make up for it.

@kherbert: Because he's a fan of the show and wants to be on it? If you were an actor and had a chance to be on one of your favorite shows, wouldn't you jump at the chance?
@brentbent (where's my supernova?): That's a damn fine point. If he gets more Hollywood exposure, we might get to see more of him. I can get on board with that even if it means casting him on a soap opera. I would even make the supreme sacrifice of trying to watch it. *shiver*
Oh damn. If they add yet another actor I care about to the Housewives cast, I'm gonna have to start watching. Bollocks.
On the other hand, I could just write fanfic about Lois Lane, Dana Whitacker, Mrs. Landingham and Captain Jack hanging out and playing poker. Shoe money tonight!
Right, *IF* he ends up a series regular... big if.
Also, if they're going to keep doing Miniseries, it seems that would make it much easier for him to split his time. *IF* he has to split a lot of time, that is.
I wonder where Takeshi Kovacs, or Julius from "Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom," might fit into all this. It seems like casual resurrection and post-death societies have become a fascination in recent sci-fi.
Big points for mentioning "Armageddon Rag" though. Amazing book. Read it if you haven't, reread it if you have.
We'll give you Aslan just b/c it's Easter, but any other day, we'd demand his replacement by Spock. Who was searched for by a lot of people, not just one kid.
Like a lot of people, I was surprised by the really obvious ones who didn't make the cut, namely Spock and Starbuck. If you're talking sci-fi resurrections, those are the two that first leap to mind. Also, John Locke...
And this is why I'm pretty happy that Captain America is STILL dead. When Secret Invasion began, I was worried the dead Cap would be revealed to be a Skrull and the "real" one would come back. Fortunately, it did not happen. And I'm glad. I just hope he won't resurect too quickly. Give me a five or ten years, Marvel, please!
@collex: But he certainly _will_ come back at some point. With Jason Todd being brought back (when DC promised they'd never do that back when the held the vote for his fate). The only three characters who stay dead in regular continuity are Bruce's parents and Peter's uncle (those three being key to the inception of the two most popular comic book characters ever created). Everyone else just needs to put in their years in Comic Book Purgatory, and then they get to come back.

Would I watch Captain Jack shag *everyone* on Wisteria Lane? Definitely.

Nathan Fillon had a brief role as a doctor of some sort (I’m thinking gynaecologist?).
