Okay, the uncanny valley has officially been crossed.
I can actually believe in that after seeing it.
Of course, it doesn't mean that the story isn't going to be crap, but I'll go and see it based on the VFX.

Personally, im a big fan of Cameron and I can kind of forgive True Lies (if only for the OTT wing walking scene). This will be fantastic, mesmerising and very enjoyable. Will I like it? Yes!! Will I care what the nay-sayers say? Balls no! Do I care enough to go mental and scream in forums about how much this will fail BEFORE ive even see the film.? Ahem* lets not be silly..of course not!
Lets give this film a chance.

Of course Avatar isn't wowing us the way it is supposed to right now, we are watching clips of it on a computer screen -- a 2-D computer screen.
Who cares if the story is extremely derivative. We are in the science fiction business people. Derivatives are our bread and butter.

T2 is still a perfect example of the beautiful synergy between kick-ass visuals and throat-kicking sci-fi mythology.
I believe Avatar will be the T2 of this generation. Top-notch effects, tried and tested archetypes, next-levelfilm-making. Cameron is the king and you know it.

I love the arguments I keep hearing on this site and others about this movie.
This movie will make bank. The question is: will it make New Moon money?
Oh, and all of you who are complaining about writing, and went to go see any Transformers movie can eat a big steaming bowl of STFU.

I'm not expecting Shakespeare either. I'm expecting a lot of nice visuals and a moderate plot.

- Optimus Prime
- Bay'splosions
- Giant Robots fighting
The story? Naw, not at all. But it didn't get in the way of my enjoyment of any of the three things mentioned (Ok, Megan Fox did, I don't need fanservice when two giant robots are gonna duke it out!).
What keeps me from wanting to see Avatar? Simple, it's Dances with Smurfs. It nags at me. I don't want to pay to see these scenes:
- where Joe main character(MC) starts to identify with the Smurfs.
- where some Military Brass starts yelling at Joe MC and tells him "It's us or them"
- where Joe MC tries to bring the Smurfs and humans together for a peace and it goes horribly wrong and the humans kill more smurfs, and wounds and possibly kills smurfette
- the inevitable final battle where Joe MC fights for smurfette.
Even if only half of those scenes appear in a mangled form, a voice in the back of my head will taunt me with "Dances with Smurfs, It's Dances with Smurfs, you paid to see Dances with Smurfs." endlessly while watching it.
Visuals can't make up that. All the great visuals didn't save Titantic from being an utter bore.
It doesn't matter how good the writing of the story is as long as it doesn't keep me from enjoying the rest of the movie.
And I hated the Smurfs.

And as he was running with his tail flapping I kept wondering why he didn't tuck that tail in a bit so it wasn't like the cats in every cartoon that grab the mice by their tails. It also made me wonder how they get their pants on in the morning. I had a hard enough time getting my kids into clothes when they were babies. Can you imagine having to reach back and deal with an unmanageable tail every morning? So glad I'm not blue.

I can see interest in the tail, though. You could grab things while both your hands are already occupied. It's just another appendage - if it's prehensile.
Or maybe I'm just mistaking the Na'avi with Nighstalker from X-Men.

Besides, it's probably like using your non-dominant hand. It doesn't feel right, you don't do it naturally and it takes more attention to what you're doing.

But hang on before you torch me, I really really really REALLY hope this film breaks all records and sets a new standard. Not because I think it'll necessarily be the best movie evahhhh, but imagine the possibilities if the masses, and by extension studios, accepted this stuff!

the compression in the file makes the colors look a bit flat...and I'm pretty sure some of the audio is temp...
but for a 100% CG sequence you're not going to find much better than this...
the water alone is out standing.

A five-minute scene with an alien water-tentacle is one thing--no one had ever seen anything like that before.
He's really taking all this time to show off an incremental increase in CGI quality?
Also: isn't there supposed to be a movie in here somewhere?
11/24/09
Uh... 2 and a half minutes. Hence, you know, the clip length of 2:30.
I mean c'mon, man, it's no Episode 1 pod race.

I can understand why you might have been confused, though! It was my fault, I apologize; I'll make sure to note it next time I plan on doing something like that.

Won't really know until the big screen. Which I don't mind going to shell out money for - if only to dethrone New Moon from it's #1 position.
And studios still whine that piracy is hurting their profits...
