    there is no entry for "feminist science fiction."

    Why would there be? It's a phrase made up of the lexical items "feminist" and "science fiction", with strictly compositional semantics. (BTW, at the risk of self-linking, a wrong a long review of Brave New Words back when it was in hardcover.)

    @The Tensor: Well he includes terms like "speculative fiction," and many other epithets, so why not feminist science fiction. It was, after all, an incredibly influential movement within SF and still is.

    When the hardback came out, it was a great thrill to discover I have a cite in that book.

    @jaylake: Ooo! Which one?

    PS Promise to buy at least one of your books at Baycon. I've waited b/c I want to give moneys to individual dealers instead of big impersonal companies.

    Well, another book to add to the Amazon.com wish list.

    I thought "waldo" originally meant those mechanical teleoperated arms like you might have seen handling nuclear fuel rods or something. Wikipedia suggests it's from the story of the same name by Heinlein. (Man, those golden age guys invented all the really neat stuff, didn't they?)

    @Chip Overclock: Originally, yes -- I suppose the word's expanded in meaning. And it is another Heinlein creation.

    I can't remember if this book won the Hugo last year or not; I know it was on the ballot.
