*whew*
These are pretty nice, just wish there were more!

Unfortunately, this was not the case.
I am not even the first to suggest editorial changes; but please consider the following.(:?) In the future you may want to consider paragraphs with line breaks. They really do make a difference. Admit it, the above mass of text intimidated even the author when he looked upon it.
No, really. I know you can do better and look forward to reading your next worthy comment soon.
Cheers!

As for the supposed evils of Imperialism... balderdash.
All that is needed is more guns, and the ruthlessness to use them as needed. "The White Man's Burden" has not evaporated, but has only become more apparent as time has passed. If only we were in fact trying to promote American Hegemony in Afghanistan and Iraq, I would sleep better at night knowing that my tax dollars were being well spent.
Universal Health care for the poor?
Poppycock.

Sorry, if I've caused any hard feelings.

But I may have WotW on the mind right now. I'm listening to Jeff Wayne's musical version in the car, and it's 70's-tastic!

The easiest way to make money off of something unsavory is to give it a slick, dazzling veneer.

That we've conveniently forgotten, or romanticized colonialism to insulate ourselves from the fact that much of that mindset still hasn't really disappeared?

What frightens me about the US in general is a lack of understanding about colonialism in general and most importantly an inability, apparently, to recognize we are all still, and will be for a long time, dealing with the consequences of colonialism and have been for a long time. This, tribalism and continued imperialism are the true sources of terrorism and war and much tyranny, not many of us seem to understand this in the Homeland.
Anyhow, fascinating woodcuttings.

Wow that Tarzan was an animal!

So it was that as Kulonga emerged from the shadow of the jungle a slender coil of rope sped sinuously above him from the lowest branch of a mighty tree directly upon the edge of the fields of Mbonga, and ere the king's son had taken a half dozen steps into the clearing a quick noose tightened about his neck.
So quickly did Tarzan of the Apes drag back his prey that Kulonga's cry of alarm was throttled in his windpipe. Hand over hand Tarzan drew the struggling black until he had him hanging by his neck in mid-air; then Tarzan climbed to a larger branch drawing the still threshing victim well up into the sheltering verdure of the tree.

One could argue that, being raised by apes, Tarzan's moral compass was shifted closer to personal survival than anything else.
Or one could argue that Tarzan, being a "Gary Stu" for Burroughs, embodied his... let's say, to be charitable, ignorant racism.
A case could be made for either POV. When I first read this book when I was ten, I approached it from the more straightforward and practical stance of a ten-year-old boy: the villagers were bad guys. It didn't really dawn on me to conflate their blackness with this fact until many years later.. and even then it seemed forced.

as if the people actually living in these contries were not involved in their own 'liberation'...but by yet another group who are deciding the future for others...
