According to Moviehole Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron have both signed on for the Jonny Quest movie. Is there still any demand for this movie?

The movie will probably follow the same course as the show, where a young Jonny Quest (Efron), his body guard Race Bannon (Johnson), his father Dr. Quest and a group of changing "others" go on wild adventures.

According to Johnson:

"I don't know if you've read the latest [draft] but it's awesome and it's badass and I haven't read, this is what I told everyone over at Warner Bros., and I love the studio too by the way, you know, I had my experience with them with Get Smart and they were great, I hadn't read an action script like that in a LONG time. And that action was unbelievable. That will happen."

Ok so maybe if they make it super-duper action packed and leave the Bandit cameo to a minimum, it could be entertaining. But it just screams Starsky And Hutch movie to me, and not in a funny Vince Vaughn-had-a-few-good-lines kind of way. But let's see who else they bring on board.

The Black List, a list of the year's best unproduced movie screenplays based on a poll of 250 film execs, is a fascinating look inside the movie companies' massive slush pile. Every year about this time, a list of dozens of scripts, with tantalizing descriptions, comes out. To get on the list, a script must have won praise from at least four execs.

The most popular unproduced script this year isn't science fiction — I think. It's called The Beaver written by Kyle Killen, and it's a film about a depressed man who gets hope from a beaver puppet on his hand.

Then there's this, which actually has been made into a 2009 film starring Milla Jovovich:

THE FOURTH KIND by Olatunde Osunsanmi. "A fact-based thriller involving an ongoing unsolved mystery in Alaska, where one town has seen an extraordinary number of unexplained disappearances during the past 40 years and there are accusations of a federal cover-up. Milla plays a woman investigating the disappearances in the town."

That screenplay won 11 mentions from execs.

• Rumor has it The Flash, the movie about the DC Comics superhero directed by David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) will feature Jay Garrick, the original 1940s version of the character. • Super Capers, due out next fall, is a zero-budget movie about a wannabe superhero. Ed Gruberman is thrilled when a judge orders him to live in a superhero "halfway house," but then the judge turns out to be a supervillain who killed Ed's parents, and is also Ed's real dad. [FreeCastingCall]
