I'm with, well, everyone else. Portman's great, this is a good choice for the character and the Donald Blake stuff is great.
Plus, the sheer unalloyed lunacy of a Kenneth Branagh-directed Thor movie is still so huge, so unrelenting and Shakespearean that frankly the cast are gravy. This is going to be unlike anything Marvel have done so far and I'm really looking forward to it.
Incidentally, do we have confirmation on Brian'ESSEX! FRESH! HORSES!'Blessed as Odin yet?
@TemporalSword: Considering what she was given to work with in Star Wars, I think she did pretty well. Both in terms of writing, and what she was acting against....
@TemporalSword: My thoughts exactly. When I first saw her in Star Wars I wasn't sure if the problem was her acting or the dialog. [I am glade I came all the way down here so I didn't repost what was previously stated].
"We've got plans already to get Thor's name out within a younger group of kids."
oh well...that's good...
a perfect plan really, get kids, who don't read/buy Thor comics, into Thor in time for the movie, that is crippled so as to appeal to them and not the people who actually read the comic in the first place.
@EaterofFood: I think you'd have to actually identify why The Western fizzled out first. I'm guessing there are some historical reasons for why The Western, The Hard-Boiled P.I., The Loner Cop have each had their hey-day. Pull those out for me and I'm happy to try to apply them to the super-hero.

Which is a shame since that story was pretty killer and I think was good way of introducing Thor on his own terms as it were.

Also, Natalie, if you're reading this--call me. Please?

Considering that X-MEN came out in 2000, you are already wrong.
And that's me being conservative. I could go back to '78 for Superman if you want.
