@jbq: Agreed. Where the heck is Martha... or Gwen Cooper for that matter, if you have Jack? I could understand it if they weren't going to be on Earth, what with Jack going all Hitchhiker's Guide and all, but they're going to be on Earth, int he UK... she should make a cameo too, like the last season end!
Am I alone in the feeling that RTD is going to reverse everything that has happened in the last 5 years. especially since Matt Smith's 2010 debute is being called Doctor Who 2010 series one, there is something bleeding through from Rose Tyler's earth, next series features more time lords, nd Tim Daylton's opening words in END OF TIME.
I don't like the idea of a cannon wipe it stinks of reboot
I know a lot of people are tired of Rose and don't like her. But I really liked her. She was inquisitive and up for any adventure and sort of a nobody, just a shop girl. I could really relate to that. If given the chance I would be right there dragging the Doctor through space and time to see every thing I could.
I didn't like Donna because she just seemed to whine too much.
SPOILER ALERT: Here's a recently updated list of who's supposed to be writing what during Season 5 of Doctor Who, along with a few highly spoilery episode titles.
Keep in mind, these are working titles only, and based solely on information found in a couple of actor's CV's.
@bluehinter: Oh, and for those keeping count, it looks like our TARDIS travel itinerary for next season is:
Present day Earth, alien planet with time monks, WWI with daleks, alien planet with weeping angels, 1580 Venice with vampires, ??? (possibly TARDIS-centric story), post global warming future with Silurians, 1880's with Van Gogh, ???, ??? (but likely present day Earth)
Looks like we're getting a pretty decent assortment next year, with lots of historical adventures and only a couple set during the present day.
@Kishi: Yeah, I'm not 100% sure how the Cybermen rumors got started.
It seems to be coming from a fellow with a hit and miss record when it comes to spoilers, but another individual (who generally knows far more than he's telling) said, "He's kind of right, but in some aspects WAY off."
That's led to much speculation that it may be Mondas Cybermen, Cybermen controlled by something else, or perhaps humans who are trying to use cyber-technology for their own ends.
@martin.blackmore: For a long time there were rumors that the second episode was one that took place entirely in the TARDIS, and concerned weird simian aliens that the Doctor had previously trapped, but broke loose during the TARDIS's "regeneration"
This now appears to be false, or perhaps shifted to a later slot in the season.
A new Ood! Yes, I saw that in the End of Time trailer - he is developing a brain on the top of his head instead of one that they hold in their hands - that's the new kind of Ood.
Also, I like Rose. But maybe that's because I'm a girl.
@Harlot: I believe she's only in a very brief shot towards the end, where The Doctor is saying his goodbyes, and travels back to New Years Day, a year before he met her in 'Rose,' and tells her to have a wonderful year.
There may also be a brief bit where 10.5 senses 10's "death" while out shopping with Rose in the alt universe, but hopefully that's the last we'll see of either of those two.
Waters of Mars was awesome, and it makes the wait for The End of Time even that much more unbearable. I am taking the stance of absolute hatred for the eleventh Doctor until I see the first episode because David Tennant is just so good. Hopefully his departure from Dr. Who will give him time to do other movies because the only one I recall seeing him in is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
@Makidian: Easter Island (Matt Smith) might not be so bad, but it will be hard to top DT's run. I have a lot of faith in Steven Moffat, so hopefully he saw something in Matt Smith the rest of us just haven't seen yet.
@Nicolarz: I think I hate his hair more than anything else
@shrynx: I went over to imdb after I posted this comment to see what he would be doing and saw this and looked it up. It sounds very promising but they must let him keep his accent, either hi natural or Who but if the American him up the show will fail.
@cooliehawk: I know can't wait to see what he does with it. Ever see Hamlet 2, that movie was fucking weird but funny.
WHY??!?! Why does there have to be more ROSE??! I mean, she has her hunky half-human Doctor to play with... why can't we finally be done with her? GAH!
*deep breath*
Otherwise, I am absolutely psyched for the last few David Tennant eps. I really wasn't expecting such a sudden and dark twist in The Waters of Mars and kinda wish we had seen more of that throughout the series.
Ah well, we'll just have to see what they do with Matt Smith.
@Strick: Everyone assumes that Moffat will ignore all of Davies run. I'm excited about the new series as much as the next guy, but lets remember that writing one or two episodes per season is very different than running a season and potentially writing several per season. I'm not saying it's going to be bad, I'm confident it'll be fantastic; but the constant assumptions might bite you on the ass later.
@Raw_fishFood: Correct. He also wrote "The Girl in the Fireplace" and "Silence in the Library," so you can see why most fans are psyched to have him usher in the next era of Who.
@Presidentpez: Other than a few cosmetic changes, it doesn't appear that the entire RTD era is getting reset or anything. The 11th Doctor references events from "Stolen Earth" and "Doomsday" when arguing with the Daleks, and of course, both River Song and the Weeping Angels are back, so there will be some overlap at least.
From the chart I posted above, it looks like Moffat's writing 6 episodes, plus probably the Christmas special -- so about the same as RTD.
I'm really annoyed by Ryan keeping his true lizard-y nature from his finance. He's putting her life in danger; she has the right to know. How does having no clue what's going on (including that she could be a target of the V and should be careful) protect her? If they find out about her not having a clue what's going on isn't going to stop the V from using her to get at Ryan.
I like the character of Ryan but it annoys me how anytime she asks questions he literally kisses her doubts away and tells her not to worry. She should be worried and she should have a say on whether or not she gets involved with any of it.
@RandomFrequentFlierDent: If the writers have a clue they will have Ryan's fiance get suspicious. In the real world if someone acted like he does it would be VERY suspicious.
R'sF: "What's this mysterious note left here on our mantle?"
R:"Mmmm kiss kiss look at the pretty butterfly.. mmmm"
R'sF: "But doesn't this mean someone WAS HERE IN OUR HOUSE?"
R: "These aren't the droids you're looking for. Move along"
R'sF: "Someone broke into our house! Doesn't that concern you?!"
R: "You are feeling sleepy. Very sleepy. Your eyelids are heavy. So heavy you cannot keep them open. When I clap you will awake refreshed and won't remember the mysterious note"
R'sF: "You'd better start explaining or I'm out of here"
R: "I'm a lizard"
R'sF: "That's it, I warned you." (storms out)
Sure, they LOOK human, and I can believe that one could infiltrate a government agency - fake blood tests and so - with little suspension of disbelief.
But that you could sleep with one and not know, that stretches my belief far too far.
[just to clarify...I just don't like the suggestion that they feel exactly the same as humans even during copulation]
@theblazeuk: I've been assuming they have some sort of jerry-rigged biological system to *ahem* simulate a human sexual response. Establishing intimate relationships with humans was part of the plan as Tudyk-V (I have no idea what the character's name is) was married to someone he obviously didn't care for as part of his cover.
I'm also hoping they don't give the V a mode of copulation similar to human (let alone making them biologically compatible). They are supposed to be aliens after all.
@RandomFrequentFlierDent: Oh, there's gonna be a hybrid V-Human baby. That was a pretty big plotpoint of the original, and I doubt they'll let it go. Who doesn't want to see a baby-V?
I just think that since if you smack their heads open, you can see their lizardskin beneath, then if you're getting nasty with one you should be able to tell the difference too.
The new V's seem a bit too human. I was watching the last one and other than Anna I couldn't see that any of them were supposed to be aliens beyond their uniforms. Which I know is the point, but this includes ones who were basically just among their own kind.
So, Olivia knows about the experiments that Walter and co. did on her when she was little but have they really put that all behind them? Did I miss the part where she became ok with that? I know it was near the end of season one but I just feel like they could expand on that more.
