SF To Dominate This Fall's New Hit Shows

Surprising no-one, television analysts are predicting that JJ Abrams' new Fox show Fringe will be the breakout hit of this year's new fall TV shows, but apparently NBC's Knight Rider revival won't fare so well. There's also an unexpected show being named as the third most-likely-to-succeed series coming in September, especially considering the trouble that it's currently in. Find out what everyone thinks you'll be watching in just a few months under the jump. More »

Meet The New Science Heroes

With the anti-science Bush Administration finally groaning to a halt, we may finally be willing to admire scientists. There are three new TV shows with scientist heroes coming this fall, creating a genre that hardly existed until now. We've always had lots of shows about doctors, lawyers and other highly paid professionals, but the science-hero show is a new phenomenon — and it may be more political than the existing genres. Minor spoilers ahead. More »

Knight Rider Series To Have More Special Effects, And Maybe A Dog Detective

Proving that, despite what a lot of you thought, NBC's series pick up of the new Knight Rider series is more than just a cheap April Fool's hoax — Like we would be that cruel, come on — former Las Vegas showrunner Gary Scott Thompson has been named as the new series' executive producer and showrunner. While he may not have the pedigree of, say, Battlestar Galactica's Ron Moore, one look at Thompson's resume should tell you exactly why he's perfect for this particular job. More »

Knight Rider To Become Show, But Not Necessarily A Good Or Intelligent One

It's the news that I didn't mention for a day because I wanted to believe that it was all just an April Fools' hoax: NBC has picked up the recent reboot of Knight Rider as a regular series for its 2008-2009 season. The network, which will now be known as the "No, we didn't learn anything from Bionic Woman, thanks, why did you ask? Channel," hopes that the show will draw viewers in on Friday nights, but it's not banking on it, according to NBC co-chairman Marc Graboff. More »

Storytelling No Match For Flashy Effects And Marketing Doug Liman proved that he's got a nanotech hide, even though the negative reviews of his two latest projects keep teleporting in. Both Jumper and Knight Rider were panned across the board, but the movie hauled in more than $30 million over the weekend, while the television show raked in huge ratings. More than 8 million people tuned in to watch the show, including the 18 to 49 bracket that advertisers drool for. So chances are high that we'll see both a Jumper sequel, and a Knight Rider series in the months ahead (a replacement for NBC's ailing Bionic Woman?). We just hope they'll stay closer to the source material in a Jumper sequel, and give Knight Rider a tuneup. Either way, we're sure both projects got a huge thumbs up from The Hoff.

Knight Rider Smashes Our Childhood Memories Without Turbo Boost

NBC aired its Knight Rider TV movie last night. It was a two-hour long Ford commercial disguised as entertainment, padded with lesbians, threesomes, bad acting, questionable technology, and meta-commercials. Whether it was nostalgia beckoning viewers to watch, or leftover Transformers lust, this TV "event" about an artificially intelligent car was Sunday night's biggest draw. Was it worth it? Find out in our spoiler-laden recap inside. More »

Which Will Suck Less: Jumper or Knight Rider?

This weekend pits the teleporting deadpannisms of Hayden Christensen in the movie Jumper vs. Val Kilmer's monotone as KITT in Sunday's Knight Rider TV movie. So which one will be less sucky? We've already weighed in with our Jumper review, and we've given you a look at some clips from Knight Rider. Will you be watching both, one or the other, or neither? Sound off in the poll below. Val Kilmer's KITT Has Mastered Growling And Deadpanning

Things we learned from these newly released Knight Rider clips: The car really does look cool, with high-tech displays that don't do much except look pretty. Mike Knight (nee Tracer) can flail around in a car on autopilot, yet still wear one of those douchebag bluetooth headsets. You can see some of the new KITT's fancy paraphernalia in the clip above, which features what can only be described as an A.I. growl at the end. Two more KITT videos after the jump. More »

Scifi Cars That Are Smarter Than KITT

The two smartest cars in the universe get chained up and whipped, until they escape using their super lasers, in this scene from Power Rangers In Space. With Knight Rider zooming back onto our screens this weekend, everybody's acting as though KITT invented the super-smart car. But cars with a mind of their own have a long and awesome history in science fiction. Click through for our roundup of sentient cars that aren't called KITT or Bumblebee. More »

New K.I.T.T. Is Solar-Powered and Goes Green

The old K.I.T.T. is apparently dead in the new Knight Rider television movie. He'll be seen in glimpses by keen-eyed viewers, and referred to by the characters, but his motherboard is buried in the guts of the new K.I.T.T. That means he's inside an entirely new body, which serves as a sort of morbid living, driving coffin for the old William Daniels-voiced car. However, he's been enhanced, and he's even gone green in this quasi-reincarnation. More »
