    SPOILER

Wow, I actually enjoyed this movie. I am an atheist or agnostic depending (definitely not religious) and I would have to say this is more what I might believe could be, (my concept of what God might be is less biblical, more beyond our true conception) over most of what is portrayed as being End Times or Armageddon. Or was this completely Scifi because I am not 100% on the what the albinos are. I like the mash-up aspect. And the ending is sad and happy depending on your point of view, I sort of feel both myself. The FX are pretty spectacular. If you can get past Nic Cage being Nic Cage, which I can, this is a pretty cool movie.

@critifur: The albinos were pretty clearly aliens. But they were spiritual aliens. Or something.

Will we ever get an atheist protagonist who isn't a straw man?

    Other than, say, House?

I heard an interview with Cage this morning on my way to work. After hearing what he said and reading your review it seems like there were two different scripts here. Also his take on the ending was to simply describe it as neither "happy or sad"..

And if the numbers were buried in 1959 were they supposed to show every major disaster since that time or did the numbers also include events prior to that?

I haven't seen the movie yet, so I can't comment on it, but here's a review by Roger Ebert and another articleby him, in his blog. Both are interesting to some degree and may complement the review here.

Nic Cage is worse in Knowing than he is in The Wicker Man!?! Now that is a mighty strong statement to make... Then again, on the up side, The Wicker Man made laugh a whole lot - will Knowing make my sides split with unintentional laughter too?

    How'd it get burned!?!?!
