Or would their fear indicate a certain latent yearning to be a gay zombie them self?

Love the idea of using a combine to kill zombies.

"you'll sit down and run through steps 9 through 27 on the other four wall sections and you'll like it!"

What I covet is this Lego table. You can build on the Lego plate surface and there are bins underneath for storage.

Eh, just skip that part and start buying for yourself (free S&H from S@H through the 12th, which means you can keep that UCS Millennium Falcon down to a mere $500!). Seriously, kids may enjoy Duplo, and really little kids may enjoy Primo, but you're going to be very frustrated if you have to wait long enough for the little one to stop chewing on small objects before you can buy cool themed sets and stuff.

Which LUG? In MichLUG there are only a couple members who regularly bring their kids to club events, but even the ones that sometimes complain about doing events still enjoy building sets, and if they enjoy that they'd certainly have fun at a LEGO store (not that we get to have any around here...).

Try the UCS Millennium Falcon. That'll keep you busy for a few weeks.
And what I'd prefer is the coffee table that I waited too long to buy:
