Chusuk (Choo-suhk) is a Korean holiday, celebrating the harvest. The Korean equivalent of Thanksgiving.

Perhaps these are the Plains of Thanksgiving?

@WandaShako: Yes. It's where the brave pioneers of Titan landed. Fleeing the oppression of Old Earth, these hardy space-pilgrims longed for a new birth of freedom on the plains of Titan. Upon landing, their leader proclaimed a Day of Thanksgiving.
Then they all died of methane poisoning.
    Poor bastards.

Almost seems like they named it after Chuck Palahniuk, no?

Why did they chose Chusuk indeed. I can think of a number of Dune plants (besides Arrakis) whose names I'd use before getting down to Chusuk. Besides, it doesn't really seem like Chusuk has much to due with the sandy-nature of the plain. I'd go with Caladan, Salusa Secundus, or Geidi Prime before Chusuk.
My guess is it's some sort of test, to measure the geekiness of other scientist reading this news. A geekometer if you will.

@RandomFrequentFlierDent: Also, it's fun to say and will spawn all sorts of stupid corny jokes ala Uranus.

    "NO you!"

I'd say they're saving Arrakis for an actual 'Dune.'

@ShuklaJalookhi: But that's what's cool - Titan does actually have dunes. Of course it also has oceans, which admittedly makes it not a good comparison with Arrakis. We can only hope it has worms.

Highlander 2 (slightly worse than Boondock Saints) has a planet Zeist, this has an island called Breda, what is it with SciFi and obscure Dutch towns?

    *an especial focus*?

I wish more sci-fi and and fantasy authors paid this much attention to the geography of their worlds...

I can't count the number of time I've started a book (esp fantasy) that had a map right at the beginning...then on the fist damn page the author mentions a city/region/lake etc - I turn back to the map, and it's nowhere, nothing on the damn map at all...it's infuriating...

The Tolkien maps are great...if not super detailed, but you can at least follow the general path the characters take...

You know it's science fiction because the roads are logically laid out.
