That guy hovering over Miller in the background is the premier of NSW. He governs a state of lawless, faction-ridden, backstabbing, megalomaniacal politicians who are only too happy to turn this country into a vision of one of Miller's earlier Max films.
Also, One of the greatest experiences I ever had in a cinema was seeing Happy Feet with a full audience of tap dancing children. Laugh riot
What ever happened to a good, old fashioned trilogy? Rather than kill a good franchise with a sub-par shoe-horn story, why not just do a new, original idea with a flavour of the old classics? #madmax
Anyone who has doubts about this because of Thunderdome should remember that Miller only directed the action sequences for that one, with some other dude handling everything else. And Thunderdome's action sequences were top notch. Miller deserves the benefit of the doubt that Fury Road will be as well-directed as Mad Max and Mad Max II.
Anyone who has doubts about it because it won't feature Mel Gibson in the title role... well. I have no comfort for you there. I wouldn't mind some myself, actually.
@Zyg: I just watched NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD a few weeks ago and second the suggestion. It covers some great material, especially on the first third which focuses on Aussie sex comedies, but only about a minute of the entire doc is on MAD MAX and George Miller....
After watching, I had to break out my copies of DEAD END DRIVE-IN, PATRICK, and DARK FORCES to give them a re-watch. Still haven't even opened the plastic on my aging copy of MAD MAX though.... #madmax
Miller says Del Toro is Mexican. He's Spanish right? I guess he was unsure, because he began to say Spanish then said Mexican. Someone should tell him his first guess was the correct one. #madmax
@collex: Definitely Mexican, born in Guadalajara Jalisco. Never second guess George Miller, even if he second guesses himself! After all, the man brought cartoon-style surprised bulging eyes to live action cinema.
However, I wonder why he needed to point out Del Toro's nationality at all. I didn't hear him throw in a country of origin for any of the others he mentioned. #madmax
@Random434: I was thinking farther back to, say, The first Mad Max. Some one pointed out that one of the things that made that movie so cool was that it showed the world on that edge between our world and the lawless chaos before Thunderdome. I would kind of like to see what that would be like in this day and age. Just imagine all the Twilighters, or what ever they are called, crying about Edward and Bella as the motorcycle gangs run them down. Or would that be Max running them down? At lest Thunderdome had a catchy song, Fury Road sound like a made for tv movie about some woman out for justice for something, and I keep typing furry road. #madmax
@LittleDragon: Fury Road, that's a song by Springsteen, right?
Hopefully, Mr. Miller's idea of "really lifting the bar" doesn't mean making whatever this turns out to be more 'xplodery, CGI infested, ignorant of the laws of physics, and/or in the fashion of an extended cut scene like "Death Race".
Do like the idea of Edward and Bella being run down, though... #madmax
@WindowlickinDaywalker: I like to think that the Twilight vamps are such pussies that they sparkle in sunlight so drivers wouldn't hit them. It's like wearing an orange safety vest. #madmax
@WindowlickinDaywalker: I've loved a lot of Miller's movies.. And he's done some amazing CGI, and Some oscar winning stories, Both in one with Happy Feet. Even nominated for best picture with Babe.
So.. I'm just wondering if there will be pigs and penguins in Mad Max now :) #madmax
@Random434: At the very least they could slap a penguin bobblehead on a dashboard and maybe spray paint "Babe" along the side of one of the vehicles. #madmax
@mrabinowitz000: His comments about XENA are exactly why I thought Jackson would have gone with Raimi over Del Toro on THE HOBBIT. Sort of saying "thanks for helping us get kick-started so many years ago." While I've often quoted Sam as my favorite director adn the reason I studied film, I have to admit that Del Toro is far more visionary....

I would like to believe in this film. I can't see how it can be as good as the originals. I'm willing to have an open mind and see what comes of it.
If you want to see a great film on Aussie Genre Cinema (including Mad Max) watch Not Quite Hollywood. #madmax

An old rumor is that he want's to do ANOTHER Lethal Weapon movie. He could get fit for Mad Max and knock out both movies in the same year.
